Starfield release date delay: Bethesda game skipping 2021 launch and E3?

Starfield release date delay: Bethesda game skipping 2021 launch and E3?
Fans of Bethesda role-playing games will be disappointed to hear the latest reports about the Starfield release date.

According to industry insider Jason Schreier, the upcoming RPG won’t be released in 2021.

This contradicts previous rumours that the Bethesda game could have a 2021 release date.

Schreier made the claim during a recent Reddit thread, alongside his belief that Starfield wouldn’t appear during this year’s E3 event.

Unfortunately, however, there’s no word on whether or not Starfield will come to PS5, or if it will be an Xbox Series X exclusive.

A previous report suggested that Microsoft and Bethesda are working their hardest to have the game ready for the holiday release window.

The game is said to be “sort of finished”, with Bethesda working on polishing the game and fixing bugs.

Unfortunately, however, it’s bad news for PlayStation fans, because the latest reports suggest Starfield will be an Xbox exclusive.

Not much else is known about Starfield, which is Bethesda’s first new franchise in 25 years.

“Discover Starfield, the new space epic currently in development by Bethesda Game Studios,” reads the official Starfield description.

“Starfield is the first new franchise in twenty-five years from the acclaimed developers of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series.”

One thing we do know is that Starfield will be a single-player experience, unlike Fallout 76.

Five Legendary Bethesda Titles Get the FPS Boost Treatment on Xbox Series X|S Today

Hot on the heels of officially welcoming Bethesda’s world-renowned studios to the Xbox family, we’re excited to announce that five of the biggest titles from their vast catalog of games – Dishonored: Definitive Edition, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Prey – will all be updated today to enable FPS Boost on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. And it’s not just owners of these titles that get to take advantage of FPS Boost; all these titles are available with FPS Boost for Xbox Game Pass members too.

As a reminder, FPS Boost employs a variety of new methods for nearly doubling the original framerate on select titles. Higher, steadier framerates make games visually smoother, resulting in more immersive gameplay. We partnered closely with developers to enhance the experience while maintaining the game’s original intent. And while not applicable to all games, these new techniques can push game engines to render more quickly for a buttery smooth experience beyond what the original game might have delivered due to the capabilities of the hardware at the time. For the five titles we’ve shared today, gamers can expect to see an increase from 30 fps to nearly 60 fps while enabling FPS Boost.

In some instances, because there are higher graphics requirements to enable FPS Boost technology, we’ve had to reduce a game’s resolution to ensure it both runs smoothly and plays great. In those select cases, such as Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 in this latest title announcement, FPS Boost is not automatically enabled for Xbox Series X gamers. For all titles receiving this update, gamers will see a clear indicator if a title is running FPS Boost.

We’ve always been fans, but now we’re family

The full list of games is below and we can’t wait to jump in and discover our next favorite game with players from around the world. A handful of these games will also benefit from FPS Boost on Xbox Series X|S, and we’ll have more to share on that soon.

We invite you to play these iconic games, whether it’s the first time or a revisit to these beloved worlds. As for what’s next, the teams across Bethesda are hard at work and will have more to share later this year.

Officially Welcoming Bethesda to Team Xbox

Publisher of iconic gaming franchises will expand Xbox’s diverse portfolio on Xbox Game Pass

This is an exciting day for Xbox. Today we officially complete the acquisition of ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks. It’s an honor to welcome the eight incredibly talented development studios – Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios – and their passionate global communities to the Xbox family. Now that everything is official, we can begin working together to deliver more great games to everyone. At every step building toward this moment, I’ve been inspired and motivated by the creativity, insight, and community-first approach of the talented people at Bethesda. Our goal is to give these teams the best foundation for doing their greatest work and to learn from them as we continue to build Xbox into an inclusive platform for all players.

This is the next step in building an industry-leading first party studios team, a commitment we have to our Xbox community. With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players.

As we shared previously, it’s vitally important that Bethesda continues making games the way it always has. We look forward to empowering Bethesda’s creative teams to reach even more players around the world, helping make future Bethesda titles the biggest and most popular games in their history. Xbox and Bethesda have long shared a common vision for the future of gaming. Both as fans and as creators, Bethesda understands the potential of Xbox Game Pass.

We would also like to honor the life and memory of my close friend Robert A. Altman, founder of ZeniMax Media. Robert believed deeply in the power of gaming and we are privileged to be able to continue his work by joining forces with the teams he built and led for many years.  I will miss the opportunity to work directly with him on the future of our combined teams but I know that his spirit will live on in the shared work we do and motivate us to make this partnership all he envisioned.

Thank you to all our players for joining us on this incredible journey and to the millions of Bethesda fans around the world. Now that we’re one team, we can start working together on the future ahead. We will have more to share about what’s next for our teams later this year. In the meantime, to properly celebrate this special moment, we are bringing additional Bethesda games into Xbox Game Pass later this week. Stay tuned for more details!

Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox
