Grand National results LIVE: Aintree winners as Rachel Blackmore looks to create history

The holy-grail of horse racing gets underway at 5.15pm today and Express Sport is on hand to bring you all the winners from the moment they cross the finish line. There is seven racing in totoal througout the third day of the Aintree festival.
But all eyes will be on the main event as 40 horses battle it out over the four-mile course.

History could be made as two female jockeys, Rachael Blackmore and Bryony Frost, are in with strong chances of becoming the first ever woman winner.

“Look, it’s the Grand National and anything can happen, but I wouldn’t swap him anyway,” Blackmore said of her mount Minella Times.

And well respected trainer Paul Nicholls, who has had 11 champions, is backing the girls.

“Bryony’s got a chance. Rachel Blackmore’s got a very good chance. She’s been riding at the top of her game,” he told BBC Radio 5 live.

“It’d be really good for the sport if one of the girls did win the National. They’re more than capable of winning it.”

Cheltenham Festival tips: Royal Pagaille looks to stop Rachael Blackmore and Al Boum Photo

He won his only start in France by a head but commands respect coming from such a prolific stable despite being short of experience.

The decision to pitch novice GOWEL ROAD (1.55, ITV) into the competitive McCoy County Hurdle can pay off.

He is on a decent handicap mark and is improving with every outing. There was plenty to like about his latest victory at Newbury last month where he beat Good Ball.

This wayward character will be suited by the first-time cheek pieces.

STATTLER (2.30, ITV) had his credentials enhanced after Gaillard Du Mesnil chased home Bob Oliger on Wednesday in the Ballymore Hurdle.

The gelding had finished a respectable third behind Gaillard Du Mesnil at Leopardstown last month.

The step up to three miles in the Albert Bartlett Hurdle will be ideal for the six-year-old.

BILLWAY (3.40, ITV) can make amends for his second place behind Came To Pass in last year’s St James’s Hunter Chase by taking this season’s prize.

Connections blamed his defeat on running too free and numerous jumping errors. This term he has gave the impression that he has now put that behind him by winning his last two starts.

Mullins, the festival’s leading trainer, can sign off the meeting with victory by taking the Martin Pipe Hurdle with GENTLEMAN DE MEE (4.50, nb).

Cheltenham 2021 results LIVE: Day three schedule, Rachael Blackmore aiming for fourth win

This year’s Cheltenham Festival has already thrown up plenty of excitement from Rachael Blackmore’s historic ride on Tuesday to Tiger Roll grabbing his fifth win at the event and there could be more drama on Thursday. It’s a shame that the Cheltenham racecourse isn’t packed to the rafters with spectators this week, but the horses, jockeys and trainers have still put on an excellent show so far.
Tiger Roll stole the headlines on Wednesday as he proved his critics wrong with a dominant victory in the Cross Country Chase.

Blackmore also won in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle on board Bob Olinger as well as the Champion Bumper with Sir Gerhard.

And she’s looking for a fourth 2021 Cheltenham victory today when she rides Allaho in the Ryanair Chase.

The 31-year-old may well have a chance in the Mares Novice Hurdle on top of Telmesomethinggirl.
