Speaking about the update, WhatsApp said in a blog post, “At a time when so many of us are apart, there’s nothing better than getting together on a group call with friends and family, and there’s nothing worse than realising that you missed a special moment.
“Some of the best conversations happen when you least expect it. Now, if someone in your group misses a call when the phone rings, they can still join whenever they like. You can also drop-off and re-join so long as the call is still ongoing.”
As we mentioned earlier, this isn’t the only upgrade coming to WhatsApp.
Until now, using WhatsApp on your laptop, computer or tablet meant keeping a secure connection to a smartphone. However, after years of waiting that’s all changing.
Apple’s new iOS 15 operating system was unleashed last month during the firm’s WWDC Developers Conference. This major software upgrade includes numerous changes including vastly improved FaceTime calls, a new look to the Safari browser and the introduction of something called Focus Mode which will allow users to switch off certain alerts or change the look of the home screen depending on what they are doing during the day.
iOS 15 won’t be officially released until the autumn but there is a way to get it on your iPhone today.
Apple has now launched its public beta programme which means you can download the new version of iOS long before it’s pushed out to millions of iPhone owners across the globe.
“Help make the next releases of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS our best yet. As a member of the Apple Beta Software Program, you can take part in shaping Apple software by test-driving pre-release versions and letting us know what you think.” Apple confirmed on its site.
It’s exciting news but before you even think about installing it on your iPhone, there are some things to remember about this public beta.
Most importantly, this is not by any means finished software.
In fact, that’s the whole point of Apple making it available early as it means you’ll be tasked with reporting any bugs, incompatibilities, or glitches found in the early software.
This gives the US firm plenty of time to iron out issues before millions of people attempt to download on launch day.
Because it’s not the final build, Apple advises that users should not download the iOS 15 beta on their primary smartphone. Instead, to avoid any phone-crashing nightmares when you really need to use your smartphone, the software should be installed on a secondary iPhone.
If you are happy to proceed then it means you’ll get to play with some big new features months early and those who have signed up for alerts on the public beta release will be the first to hear the release news.
There’s a huge evening ahead for Apple fans as the company hosts its WWDC developers conference, where we expect to see all of the shiny new features coming to iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and Mac this year. The next version of iOS is always the star of the show, and iOS 15 will be no different. This upcoming release is widely-tipped to redesign the Lock Screen, make Control Centre more customisable, and keep iMessage competitive with rival messaging apps like WhatsApp.
As well as iOS 15 being unveiled, Apple looks almost certain to lift the lid on its new iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS and macOS software so it could be a very busy evening. WWDC usually takes place in front of a live audience but, due to the current COVID 19 restrictions, this year’s keynote will all be available to view online.
WWDC 2021: How to watch the announcements tonight
WWDC is a week-long event, but unless you’re developing an app for iPhone, you’ll only want to tune-in for the two-hour opening keynote. This is when CEO Tim Cook will take to the stage in Cupertino, California, to reveal some of the biggest changes to its most popular products.
The show kickstarts tonight (Monday June 7, 2021) at 6pm BST. That’s 10 PT or 1pm ET if you’re based in the US and 7pm CET. Those in Australia who want to watch will have to set their alarms for 3am on June 8. Ouch.
If you fancy tuning in then you can find the live stream on Apple’s event page HERE. Those with an Apple TV can also watch on the big screen via the decided Apple Event app found on their set-top box.
On iPhone and iPad, the easiest way to watch is via the YouTube livestream. You’ve probably already got the YouTube app on your device and, if you have a Chromecast at home, you’ll be able to throw the footage to the big screen too. WATCH WWDC 2021 ON YOUTUBE HERE
Those on Windows 10, Chromebook or Mac can also use the YouTube link above, or can watch on Apple’s own website. If you have a Mac, the video player on Apple’s site supports its picture-in-picture mode, so you’ll be able to watch while working on other things. That might be a good reason to pick over YouTube, but there’s no other difference in terms of picture quality or features.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s event, Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations and Enterprise and Education Marketing said: “We love bringing our developers together each year at WWDC to learn about our latest technologies and to connect them with Apple engineer.
“We are working to make WWDC21 our biggest and best yet, and are excited to offer Apple developers new tools to support them as they create apps that change the way we live, work, and play.”
Along with big updates to its software, Apple sometimes throws in a few surprises with WWDC often used to launch new hardware.
One device that could be unveiled tonight is a fully refreshed MacBook Pro which could be powered by Apple’s next-generation of silicon. The firm has already unleashed a swathe of new laptops and desktop PCs that now feature the M1 processor but things could get even more impressive thanks to the rumoured M2 chip.
Express.co.uk will be watching all of tonight’s announcements and will bring you full details as soon as they are announced.
Hollywood A-lister Harrison Ford is thought to be filming his latest blockbuster in a sleepy North Yorkshire village
The unlikely location of Grosmont, near Pickering, is thought to be part of the setting for the new Indiana Jones movie.
Filming is taking place on the North York Moors Railway, with locals spotting props including tanks, a guard tower and a steam train dressed in the colours of 1940s German railways, as well as Nazi uniforms.
Indiana Jones 5 has started filming in the UK at Pinewood and at other locations in the UK.

No official statement has been released about the production, which is the second major Hollywood filming contract that the North Yorkshire Moors Railway has secured this year, reports The Gazette and Herald.
In April Tom Cruise shot action scenes for the latest Mission:Impossible film on a section of the North York Moors Railway.
However, filming was suspended after a member of the crew tested positive for Covid.
Although Microsoft updates Windows 10 every month with a smattering of security tweaks and performance improvements, it saves the biggest, shiniest features for two blockbuster updates that launch each year. Microsoft typically launches the first of these two feature-filled upgrades in spring, with the second coming in the autumn. The first major upgrade of this year is the imaginatively named May 2021 Update and you can get your hands on it right now – without waiting for the official release date.
That’s because Microsoft has started to roll out the Windows 10 May 2021 Update to its community of beta testers. Dubbed Windows Insiders, these users get their hands on the latest features before anyone else. However, since these features aren’t quite finished, Windows Insiders need to report any issues with their hardware – like speakers or peripherals connected to their PC – as well as software – third-party applications or drivers. This enables Microsoft to iron-out any kinks before the 1.3 billion Windows 10 users receive the update.
Microsoft has a few different tiers of beta testers. These are known as Dev Channel (opting for this will result in more frequent releases with the most rough-and-ready level of polish), Beta Channel (a little less frequent, but still some potential for disastrous gremlins in the code), and Release Preview Channel (this will only update your system with software that’s almost out-of-door so should be very close to the finished product).
Following months of testing, the Windows 10 May 2021 Update is now available in the Release Preview Channel.
That means – barring a catastrophic bug being discovered at the last minute that halts the planned launch in the coming weeks – this is exactly the same update that will be coming to millions of Windows 10 users soon. So, if you want to avoid a wait, you can download Windows 10 May 2021 Update as a Windows Insider now.
OK, here we go. To enrol as a Windows Insider (albeit temporarily) to get the latest blockbuster update ahead of time, head to Start > Settings > Privacy > Diagnostic & Feedback and then check the box next to “Optional Diagnostic Data”. As soon as that’s done, you can now head to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program. Then, all you need to do is hit the “Get Started”.
Make sure you choose the “Release Preview Channel”, then click “Confirm” and restart your PC.
After that, you might find there are a few pending updates. Make sure those download and install on your hardware before moving onto the Feature Update.
To double-check that you’re running the latest and greatest from Microsoft, click on the Start button, then navigate to System and scroll down to see “Windows Specifications” to check for “Version 21H1”.
Windows 10 May 2021 Update comes with a number of handy new improvements. It adds support for external cameras for its facial recognition Windows Hello system – so if you use a USB webcam for improved video call quality, you’ll be able to login to your computer with a quick glance. Elsewhere, Microsoft has upgraded its Windows Defender Application Guard. The latter is a clever feature that lets users open suspicious files or applications in a completely isolated virtualised container. This boosts security as even if the app turns out to be a virus – it can’t get to any of the important files, applications and more actually stored on your hard drive.
According to Microsoft, opening documents from suspicious emails, in particular, should feel noticeably faster in Windows Defender Application Guard.
Unfortunately, that’s about it.
Microsoft doesn’t include much more in the May 2021 Update. That’s because its autumn update, codenamed Sun Valley inside the company, is a real doozy. Microsoft is giving the entire operating system a lick of paint – the first visual overhaul since Windows 10 hit the market back in 2015 – as well as a truckload of new features, including support for AirPods and Apple’s custom-designed AAC audio codec. That should provide a similar easy-peasy Bluetooth pairing as AirPods owners experience with a Mac.
(Reuters) – Twitter Inc (NYSE:) shares sank 9% in postmarket trading on Thursday as it offered tepid revenue guidance for the second quarter, warned of rising costs and expenses and said user growth could slow as the boost seen during the coronavirus pandemic fizzles.
The social media company posted revenues and user numbers mostly in line with analyst estimates in stark contrast to the better performing digital ad firms like Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:) and Alphabet (NASDAQ:) Inc’s.
It said it expected second quarter revenue between $ 980 million and $ 1.08 billion, lower than Wall Street estimates of $ 1.06 billion on average, according to IBES data from Refinitiv. It also said stock based compensation for new hires would be more than expected this year.
Twitter says it wants to reset after years of product stagnation, announcing in February bold goals to expand its user base, speed up new features for users, and double its revenue by 2023.
“The explosive growth that Twitter experienced during the pandemic is slowing rather rapidly in the aftermath of an eventful 2020 in which the microblogging site benefited immensely from the U.S. elections and a pandemic-driven surge,” said Haris Anwar, senior analyst at Investing.com.
Ad revenue for the first quarter were $ 899 million, up 32% from the same period a year ago and beating analyst estimates of $ 890 million. Total revenue for the quarter was $ 1.04 billion, up 28% year-over-year and slightly higher than estimates of $ 1.03 billion.
Google and Facebook, the top two largest digital advertising platforms, both blew past revenue expectations in their first quarters. Advertisers consider both to have more ad formats and better ad targeting capabilities than Twitter.
Twitter reported 199 million daily active users, up 20% year-over-year, compared to analysts’ estimates of 200 million, according to FactSet data.
The San Francisco-based company repeated its warning that growth of its monetizable daily active users (mDAU) – its term for daily users who can view ads – could reach “low double digits” in the next quarters, likely hitting a low point in Q2.
‘TOO EARLY’ TO TELL
Twitter pledged in February a goal to double its annual revenue to $ 7.5 billion in 2023 from $ 3.7 billion in 2020. Responding to criticism that was summed up by CEO Jack Dorsey this year as “we’re slow, we’re not innovative, and we’re not trusted,” the company has recently snapped up newsletter platform Revue and podcast company Breaker and teased a litany of new products.
The company is also testing a live audio feature “Spaces” to compete with Clubhouse and has teased new ways for creators to make money on the site, from tipping to “super follows” where fans can pay for exclusive content.
Twitter, which banned former U.S. President Donald Trump following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, remains in the spotlight over its content policies and algorithmic systems. Both Dorsey and Twitter’s head of U.S. public policy appeared in front of Congress in recent weeks as lawmakers mull changes to social media platforms’ liability protections.
Twitter said it expected total revenue to grow faster than expenses this year, assuming that the coronavirus is less of a factor and that it sees “modest impact” from Apple’s changes.
But it said in its outlook that stock-based compensation expenses for this year will amount to $ 600 million, up from its previous guidance of between $ 525 million to $ 575 million, as the company ramps up hiring. It forecast capital expenditures to be $ 900 million and $ 950 million for the full year.
Twitter said it expects headcount, as well as total costs and expenses, to increase at least 25% in 2021 on a year-over-year basis.
The whole boxing world will be tuning in when Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury lace it up and step into the ring for their undisputed heavyweight bout and David Haye believes the former has already been written off as the underdog. Contracts have been signed on a two-fight deal with Saudi Arabia set to host the first bout in late July.
It’s expected to be the biggest heavyweight fight in history with the winner to become the first unified champion in the four-belt era.
Fury and Joshua are in the primes of their career as well at 32 and 31 years of age respectively.
The latter heads into this summer’s contest with more recent experience having knocked out Kubrat Pulev back in December, while Fury hasn’t fought since his resounding victory over Deontay Wilder at the start of 2020.
Haye believes Fury is still riding the wave of that impressive win to clinch the WBC heavyweight belt.
And the former unified cruiserweight world champion believes that has had a knock-on effect to the public’s view on Joshua.
“A lot of people are making Tyson Fury the favourite after his amazing performance against Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas,” he told Express Sport.
“A fight I thought was one of the best heavyweight contests I’ve ever seen. I didn’t know that Tyson Fury could fight the way he did and I think he shocked Deontay Wilder.
“I rate Deontay Wilder – I still do – but he [Fury] made him look very, very ordinary.
“He made him look even more ordinary than his previous fights that weren’t that good and those guys went the distance.
“So for him to go out there and dominate shows that he’s got a lot in his locker, but I think that fight has stopped people believing in Anthony Joshua.
“Off the strength of that amazing victory, they’ve written off Anthony Joshua and write him off at your peril.”
Haye goes on to suggest that Fury may well be caught out if he underestimates Joshua.
“Anthony Joshua has been working very hard behind the scenes whilst Tyson Fury has been celebrating his amazing victory. A lot of people see him [Fury] as the world No 1 as he’s just beaten the WBC champion,” Haye added.
“Fury, I don’t believe he believes he has to raise anything. I think he just thinks he’s better.
“He just thinks he turns up and he’s just going to beat up Anthony Joshua and I don’t believe that’s the case.
“I just think it’s the perfect time for Anthony Joshua. Everyone is writing him off. He’s going to be an underdog but even being the underdog I think will help him.
“It didn’t help him how everyone was saying how easy the fight with Ruiz was going to be. I think that worked against him.
“This time everybody is going to doubt him. He’s got nothing to lose. He’s going to go out there with not many people believing he’s going to win.
“He’s going to go out there and prove everybody wrong and he’s going to show the world what he’s all about.
“Experts have written him off… but he’s a very special boxer and someone who I don’t believe has shown everything that he’s got.
“I believe there’s so much more in the locker, he’s proven as a fighter and he’s got better every time I’ve seen him and I just believe it’s the perfect time for him to show what he’s really got.”
Haye also helped launch The Black Mask Company last year with sports stars such as Lewis Hamilton wearing them and the former British boxing superstar opened up on the background to his business venture.
“A buddy of mine lives in Vietnam and they did a lockdown in January last year so way ahead of pandemic,” he added.
“90 per cent of Vietnamese where washable face masks and it’s crept into their culture over the years and I worked out through my Vietnamese contacts that the government had issued the commission of a three-layer washable face mask and I though hook or by crook managed to get the worldwide distribution of this mask.
“They don’t make many of them but the ones they do make, I’m able to bring to the UK and sell. They’re super comfortable and more importantly they’re biodegradable.
“There’s 129million masks per month getting dropped into landfills and washing up in our oceans and it’s become a massive issue so this washable mask, it’s something where I’ve always been a big advocate for sustainability.”
Eddie Hearn has confirmed that both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have now agreed on a fight site for the undisputed heavyweight world championship this summer. Last Sunday, the offers were presented to the fighters and their teams and now it appears the wheels are in motion for an official announcement.
Hearn told Behind The Gloves, while away in Miami for Demetrius Andrade’s WBO middleweight world title defence against Liam Williams: “Both sides have approved the site offer they want to go with, we are now finalising the site offer and we’re in a good place.”
Understandably, Hearn was apprehensive to reveal exactly where the fight will be taking place.
Saudi Arabia, which staged AJ’s rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr in December 2019, is believed to be the frontrunner.
Fury confirmed last week before flying to Las Vegas to begin his training that he’d finally received a series of fight offers.
“Just had some big news. Three or four big offers on the table,” he said in a video on Twitter.
“There’s interest from Saudi Arabia, my Gypsy brothers in Qatar, Uzbekistan, Russia, America, England,” he said.
“There’s some big, big offers on the table. I’m going to go through them on Sunday and hopefully we can get this big fight on and I can smash this big dosser.
“Big useless dosser, let me say. Because when I get him I’m going to give him that [clenched fist], you big dosser.”
Joshua has already started training while the Gypsy King is now sharpening his tools in the Top Rank Gym in Vegas.
Fury has shared various videos this week training with his cut man Jorge Capetillo.
His trainer SugarHill Steward has also arrived in Vegas as the trio look to begin their official fight preparations.
Promoter Frank Warren, who manages Fury with Top Rank chief Bob Arum, said earlier this week that he can’t see how the fight happens in July due to AJ’s trainer Rob McCracken’s Team GB commitments.
“I don’t see how any of that can happen in July or even early August from my perspective,” he told talkSPORT.
“Robert McCracken is AJ’s trainer, he’s also our Olympic team’s head coach, so he’s gonna be in Japan – I think the Olympics start on July 23, and I don’t know what the quarantine period is.
“He can’t be in two places at once. That’s if Robert McCracken’s still training AJ, maybe he’s not training the Olympic squad, I’m not sure. That’s one issue.
“I don’t believe this fight will go on until – if it’s late August we’ll be very lucky, maybe September.”
Hearn has been quick to brush aside any negative talk and doubts surrounding the fight and he insists this fight will get made this summer on his watch.
Apple Arcade made its debut back in 2019 with this fun-packed service offering access to a swathe of games and apps for a small monthly fee. Since its arrival, Apple has been busy adding new titles on an almost weekly basis but the latest blockbuster update has to be the best yet.
Not only has the US technology firm added over 30 games including blockbuster titles such as NBA 2K21 and Star Trek: Legends but also two entirely new game categories – Timeless Classics and App Store Greats. These additions take the total number of apps available on Apple Arcade to over 180.
Timeless Classics includes universally loved, quintessential genres with titles like “Good Sudoku by Zach Gage,” “Chess – Play & Learn,” and “Backgammon,” while App Store Greats brings some of the best award-winning games from the App Store to Apple Arcade, including “Threes!,” “Mini Metro,” and “Fruit Ninja Classic.”
As with all Apple Arcade titles these games can be played without any irritating ads popping up or the need to pay for in-app purchases.
“In its inaugural year, Apple Arcade won over media critics and fans for its creativity, diverse portfolio, and commitment to players’ privacy, providing a safe gaming service to enjoy with family and friends,” said Matt Fischer, Apple’s vice president of the App Store.
“Today we’re launching our biggest expansion since the service debuted, now offering more than 180 great games that include new Arcade Originals, Timeless Classics, and App Store Greats. Whether it’s a brand new games made exclusively for Arcade like ’NBA 2K21 Arcade Edition’, ’Star Trek: Legends,’ and ‘Oregon Trail,’ all-time App Store favourites like ‘Monument Valley’ and ‘Threes!,’ or traditional games like ‘Chess and Solitaire,’ we have an incredible variety of gameplay experiences for everyone.”
If you haven’t given Apple Arcade a try then you can sign up and test it out for a month for free.
Those buying a new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple TV also receive three months of Apple Arcade for free. Once that initial period is up it then costs £4.99 per month.
Apple Arcade is also part of the Apple One subscription plan which brings access to Apple TV+, Apple Music and additional storage for a single monthly fee.
