Big cat ‘sighting’: CCTV captures suspected beast ‘walking like a lion’ several times

Housing manager Pauline Jones told The Leader she watched the footage several times on her laptop.

She insisted the creature, which she describes as “walking like a lion”, is too big to be a domestic cat.

She told the outlet: “It’s quite difficult because the camera that it is on has mesh around it.

“At first I couldn’t make out what it was so I transferred it from my phone to my laptop.

“I thought there’s no way that’s a cat, it must be somebody’s dog – but if you look at its tail and the way it is walking there is no way it is a dog.

“When you look at him or her walking it has a different gait to a domestic cat, the way it lifts its paws is more like a dog, they are bigger and heavier.”

Freaky review: Vince Vaughn captures the heart of this gore-filled supernatural hit

Freaky: Kathryn Newton stars in trailer for horror comedy

Freaky does something a lot of horror movies simply fail to do: something new. Directed by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day; Happy Death Day 2U), Freaky centres in on a young high-schooler, Millie (Kathryn Newton, of Detective Pikachu fame), who is making her way through her mediocre life. She lives in the shadow of her police officer sister while avoiding the subject of her mother’s growing alcoholism which was sparked by her father’s death. Things get increasingly worse for Millie when she is murdered by the local urban legend serial killer, the Blissfield Butcher.

Thankfully, Millie was granted one last reprieve: The Blissfield Butcher killed her using a cursed dagger, inadvertently switching their consciousnesses.

Using the concept from the Freaky Friday movies, Millie awakens in the body of the Butcher (Vince Vaughn) in his murder house, while he wakes up in her blush pink teenager’s room.

What follows is an epic horror movie that fans of the genre will absolutely adore.

Freaky has everything – comedy, suspense, gore, horror-mystique; everything required of an instant classic.

Vaughn playing Millie is truly a sight to behold. He expresses the same sort of vibe that Jack Black gives off during Jumanji.

Why is there (weirdly) something special about grown men playing teenage white girls in high-stakes situations?

Millie, now in the Butcher’s body, recruits her closest friends to help her unravel the magical mystery surrounding her body switch, while simultaneously trying to stop the Butcher (in Millie’s body) from committing any more murders.

And the murders are just sublime.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu: Gyarados vs Charizard teaser

Freaky opens with a string of classic slasher flick-inspired kills that are thrilling and really set the mood for the film.

One kill, in particular, involving a glass bottle is particularly bone-chilling. Real toe-curling nightmare fuel viewing.

What’s more, the effects throughout the gore-fest are wonderful. Most of the more elaborate deaths seem like they were brought to life with practical effects, but it’s difficult to be certain. Either way, they look convincing and fun.

The quality of the film dips with its narrative.

The overarching plot for Freaky is completely fine. It doesn’t reach the exquisite heights found in the likes of Sinister or Hereditary, but it’s still enjoyable.

The real joy in Freaky is found in Vaughn and Newton – both of whom are fantastic.

Vaughn’s constant overselling of everything as a 16-year-old girl is exceptionally memorable, with some unbelievable scenes to boot.

Newton, who plays the serial killer for most of the film, has far less material to work with. Once she has been possessed by the Butcher she doesn’t have a lot of lines – but she is still phenomenal.

Towards the end of the film, Newton really steals some of the more intense moments as the team’s window of success comes to a close and she is forced to physically impose herself on the rest of the cast.

Freaky would be markedly better with some script improvements, however.

Although a lot of the dialogue is funny, not every moment requires a joke.

The moments when the side characters attempt to essentially run a stand-up comedy routine are when the film is at its weakest – but thankfully there are but a few examples of this.

CONCLUSION

Freaky is a blood-splattered feast for horror fans. Vince Vaughn delivers an incredible performance of a 16-year-old girl, while Kathryn Newton plays a truly menacing serial killer. Although the plot and dialogue could see improvements, its ambitious kills and set pieces feel fresh, despite being built on the genre’s foundations.

Freaky is out in cinemas tomorrow.

Ghost video: Countryside pub captures ‘unbelievable’ footage of 'apparition'

The footage has left the staff at the Twa Dogs Inn in Keswick, Cumbria terrified, as they are convinced that what was seen is a ghost. The CCTV was recording late at night when it captured what looks like a human apparition moving around the premises.
The video shows the pub’s locked beer garden, which at first appears to be totally empty.

Two fluorescent green orbs surrounded by a dark layer can then be seen slowly moving around the space.

Although a face is not visible, the shape of the potential apparition resembles a human body.

The bizarre clip was first spotted by Sharon Hankin, a member of the bar’s staff for eight years.

She told the Cumbria Crack website: “I had been watching it all night on CCTV and thought: ‘What on earth is that?’

“I took a video of the CCTV footage on my phone. You can see the outline of a body and it looks like it’s got a head and legs and at the end you can see an arm swinging.”

Peter Harding, the pub’s landlord, investigated the beer garden after seeing what he referred to as “unbelievable” footage.

He said: “With Covid, we have had to have table service, so we have decked out an area at the side of the pub and put artificial grass down and put up two marquees.

Ms Hankin said: “When I was working a few years ago, I saw a figure wearing a blue jacket walk across the hatch in the pool room.

“I went to have a look and there was nobody there.”

Other staff members have reportedly had similar experiences, hearing footsteps and even a “loud growl” after putting some keys away upstairs.

As well as this, Ms Hankin said that there have been incidences of freshly made beds looking like someone has been lying in them.

Google Maps Street View captures 'wholesome' moment of romance on the streets of Italy

Sparking an air of romance, the couple were described as “wholesome” by the Reddit user who happened upon the sight.

“Wholesome old couple in Genoa, Italy,” wrote the Reddit user.

However, elsewhere in the world, other couples have been spotted in somewhat less “wholesome” situations.

In fact, one pair’s lewd behaviour on a Mexico beach led Google Maps Street View moderators to blur their entire bodies.
