Taxi Chaos: Bringing Back the Long-Lost Taxi Genre

Pedestrians and tourists, take cover as the streets are about to get even more reckless! Jump into the cab and rush all around town to pick up the craziest of customers, and drop them off as fast as you can. With Taxi Chaos we wanted to bring a throwback to a classic and almost forgotten arcade racing genre in video game history — and now it’s available for Xbox One!

Traffic rushing down the streets, pedestrians crossing the sidewalks and passengers of all kinds eagerly waiting for you to pick them up. Welcome to New Yellow City, a town where everybody has too many places to be, but never enough time to get there. The team has done everything within its power to create the perfect arcade city.

Just like the classics, the gameplay in Taxi Chaos is centered around picking up passengers and bringing them to their destination of choice. Navigate through crowded streets, dodge pedestrians and power through the park to discover the fastest way to drop them off. To bring something new, we’ve also given players the ability to defy gravity and even jump over rooftops! The main challenge is to find the best shortcuts all around town, to get even faster and prevent time from running out.

Designing New Yellow City

Before the team started on the city design, we all asked ourselves: “What would be the best city to take as an inspiration for this spiritual successor?” It didn’t take long before the iconic taxi capitol New York City rose up as the obvious winner. We always begin by researching iconic key locations and city plans to decide what should be included. Simultaneously, we dive into similar titles for inspiration – in this case the classic taxi games.

We first wanted to divide the city into two parts: one main island and a smaller island connected with two bridges. The goal for this was to make the player really think about what passengers they wanted to pick up based on their destination, as taking a trip across the bridge could endanger your time limit. Next, the idea was born to extend the bridges in a giant highway that would enclose the entire city. It would be hard to enter, but easy to jump down from. Ultimately, we let go of both ideas to focus on something new: a jumping taxi.

2: The final city map for New Yellow City

As we started focusing on the main island, a few things became very important to us. First we wanted to bring that NYC feeling to the city, by including iconic landmarks but giving them an unique little twist. Players will be able to visit Freedom Park, Aeonian Square, Memorial Park and many other places (three guesses what their inspiration was). Next, we wanted to make sure the line of sight between them would be clear, so players can easily find them and learn the different routes throughout the city.

The next step was to add secondary roads to give players the opportunity to take even more risk and find unique shortcuts. When the foundation was set, we started experimenting with the jump mechanic, as what’s crazier than riding on top of buildings? We added ramps, low buildings you can directly jump on and various roofs you can traverse. Taxi driving will never be the same again. Curious where some good shortcuts are? Keep an eye out for green scaffolding on buildings, there might be a crazy opportunity there.

Passengers with a personality

Of course, just driving and jumping around is not all there is to New Yellow City. Just like it’s inspiration, it’s filled with unique citizens each with their own story. To bring the city to life, we decided to give all of them an unique voice and dialogue. There are also various special passengers you can pick up multiple times, to get to know them a little bit better each time you meet them. You can pick up a hipster, plumber, rockstar and many others. Make sure you visit each rooftop, as you never know who you’ll meet.

Start your meter!

Are you ready for this crazy and chaotic ride? We all hope you’ll join us on a cab ride of a lifetime as Taxi Chaos is available now for Xbox One!

Apex Legends update time: release date news for Chaos Theory and Switch

Apex Legends update time: release date news for Chaos Theory and Switch
Developers Respawn Entertainment has confirmed its update time plans for Apex Legends.

This is set to go live with the Chaos Theory event, a Collection event that will include map changes and new cosmetics to unlock.

The Caustic Takeover will be one of the easiest to spot, with Respawn planning a “new dominant mousetrap with lots of high-quality loot that beckons all Legends who seek the glorious cheese.

“Where Water Treatment once stood, the new Caustic Treatment was constructed to prevent the Crash Site fuel spill from reaching the ocean. Or was it?

“Forever the scientist, Caustic has set out an experiment that requires “test subjects” to drain the toxic liquid from the centre of the facility. Doing this temporarily grants access to four gold loot items locked in cages.”

The Chaos Theory event will also make it possible to play Apex Legends in a solo role, without teammates.

The one downside to this will be facing those who haven’t taken the option, as the new Solo Queue will only be available on team servers.

WHEN IS THE APEX LEGENDS UPDATE TIME?

Developers Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that the Apex Legends update time has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 9, at 6pm GMT.

The Chaos Theory Collection Event launches on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation at 10am PT on March 9, but that won’t include Nintendo Switch.

The big rollout on Switch will be happening later, with Respawn telling fans this week: “Nintendo Switch players can jump into the Chaos Theory Collection Event the evening of March 9th, when Apex Legends officially launches on the platform.

“Since we’re launching a few weeks after the start of Season 8, Switch players will be granted 30 free levels for their Season 8 Battle Pass. For the first two weeks after launch, playing on Switch will also earn you double XP.

“Plus, to celebrate Switch players and welcome them to the arena, we’re also launching a Legendary Pathfinder skin (called P.A.T.H.) as a free reward for players who boot up Apex Legends on Switch between the game’s launch and the end of Season 8 – Mayhem (May 4th, 2021).”

The Nintendo Switch version will include support for cross-platform play, the latest seasonal content, and full feature parity with the other versions of the game.

But what we don’t know is the exact time things will be kicking off on the Nintendo eShop.

There are a few times to keep an eye out for Apex downloads, with 7pm GMT a good prediction at this point.

And Respawn might offer further guidance on its plans in the coming hours, before the new Chaos event kicks off.

It should be noted that this week’s Apex Legends update will extend to other changes away from new content.

One of the main tweaks confirmed by Respawn is to Caustic, who will see its Nox Gas Grenade cooldown increased from 2.5 minutes to 3.5 minutes, while the Nox Gas damage will now have a flat rate of 5hp per tick instead of ramping up from 6hp → 12hp.

A message from Respawn confirms: “Caustic is brutally effective at slowing down engagements.

“The entirety of his kit revolves around gas with a large area of effect, slow, vision obstruction, and direct health damage. It’s proven to be too oppressive in too many scenarios especially considering teammates can play in gas relatively unimpaired. Significantly reducing gas damage (without taking it away completely or having it affect armor instead) seems like a fair compromise that stays true to the character while making him less oppressive on the receiving end. We will be monitoring the data and gameplay closely. If these changes hit Caustic’s appeal or effectiveness too hard we will revisit accordingly.”

Apex Legends Chaos Theory, Season 8 patch notes, Switch release and Solo queue

Apex Legends Chaos Theory, Season 8 patch notes, Switch release and Solo queue
New Apex Legends Season 8 Chaos Theory patch notes have been released today, and it confirms some big changes coming to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

From what has been shared so far by Respawn, March 9 will include the start of a new event.

The Chaos Theory Collection Event will add a new rewards track, boasting fresh cosmetics, this time featuring legendary Kraber and EVA-8 weapon skins.

According to Respawn, gamers will be able to earn 1,000 points per day, and challenges refresh daily.

Stretch challenges will focus on the hardcore fanbase, which will reward four unique badges if completed during the event. These challenges also stack with an existing Battle Pass so that you can complete multiple at once.

The Apex Legends Chaos Theory event also introduces a brand new set of 24 themed, event-limited cosmetics.

A message from Respawn confirms: “Inspired by the warriors of the Frontier, our Legends are donning fierce new looks as they drop into the arena.

“All 24 items will be available through direct purchase (for Apex Coins or Crafting Metals) and in Event Apex Packs for the entire duration of the event. If you collect all 24 event items, you’ll unlock the Bangalore Heirloom set.

“Bangalore took this Pilot’s knife off a cold-blooded opponent. Since that day, she’s made it her own.

“After the event ends, the Bangalore Heirloom will become available via heirloom crafting. A few more nitty gritty details on how this Collection Event will work: First, the crafting costs for the skins are returning to their regular pricing now that the Anniversary Collection Event has ended.”

Today’s Apex Legends Season 8 patch notes also revealed that other big changes are happening to existing characters.

The big highlight is for Caustic players, with the Nox Gas Grenade cooldown increasing from 2.5 minutes to 3.5 minutes.

And Nox Gas damages will also start using a flat rate of 5hp per tick instead of ramping up from 6hp → to 12hp.

The development team explained to fans this week: “Caustic is brutally effective at slowing down engagements. The entirety of his kit revolves around gas with a large area of effect, slow, vision obstruction, and direct health damage. It’s proven to be too oppressive in too many scenarios, especially considering teammates can play in gas relatively unimpaired.

“Significantly reducing gas damage (without taking it away completely or having it affect armour instead) seems like a fair compromise that stays true to the character while making him less oppressive on the receiving end.

“We will be monitoring the data and gameplay closely. If these changes hit Caustic’s appeal or effectiveness too hard, we will revisit accordingly.”

Respawn has also confirmed that the launch of Apex Legends’ next update will bring new options to the game.

While Respawn isn’t going as far as offering a new Apex Solo Queue, they provide a new no-fill matchmaking option.

No-Fill Matchmaking will make it possible to play the game as a solo Legend, but it will come with some hefty challenges.

In the lobby, you’ll now see a checkbox entitled “Fill Matchmaking” and this will lead to the matchmaking system attempting to fill your squad to Duos or Trios, whichever you queued for.

Unchecking this box and clicking Play will send your party into your selected playlist without filling your team with other players.

And one of the biggest updates coming to the Apex Legends platform will be the launch of the Nintendo Switch version, scheduled as part of the March 9 patch.

Switch players will be given 30 free levels for their Season 8 Battle Pass, as they are getting a few weeks into the Season.

And for the first two weeks after launch, playing Apex Legends on Switch will also earn you double XP.
