You may have seen the exciting announcement last week that Sega is bringing Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles to North America and Europe for the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on October 15! Developed by the team at CyberConnect2, The Hinokami Chronicles is a high-octane arena fighter that lets players relive the memorable moments of “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc” and “Mugen Train Arc.”

Before we get into our topic for today, let’s talk about the overall plot of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Set during the Taisho Period in Japan, Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon.

To make matters worse, his younger sister Nezuko, the sole survivor, has been transformed into a demon herself. Though devastated by this grim reality, Tanjiro resolves to become a “demon slayer” so that he can turn his sister back into a human and kill the demon that massacred his family.

Today, we’ll be talking about three members of the Hashira (the highest ranked members of the Demon Slayer Corps) that are part of the playable roster in The Hinokami Chronicles: Giyu Tomioka, Shinobu Kocho, and Kyojuro Rengoku. And as a special bonus, we’ll also show off Tanjiro Kamado (Hinokami Kagura)!

Giyu Tomioka

First, let’s talk about Giyu Tomioka, one of the Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps the Water Hashira, who uses “Water Breathing.” A quiet, stoic man, he is the one who recruited Tanjiro for the Demon Slayer Corps.

Shinobu Kocho

And then there’s Shinobu Kocho. One of the Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, the Insect Hashira, who uses “Insect Breathing.” Whether it’s a human or demon, she’ll maintain a polite demeanor while never letting her smile fade.

Kyojuro Rengoku

Next, we have Kyojuro Rengoku. Yet another one of the Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, he is the Flame Hashira who uses “Flame Breathing.” He’s cheerful and eccentric, but never one to mince words.

Tanjiro Kamado (Hinokami Kagura)

Finally, there’s Tanjiro Kamado (Hinokami Kagura). During the battle at Natagumo Mountain, Tanjiro remembers the memory of his late father’s kagura dance and applies that movement to learn a new Breathing Style: “Hinokami Kagura.”

These are just a few of the characters you’ll be able to play as when Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles launches for the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on October 15. Even better, those that pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition will be able to play the game two days early on October 13! Stay tuned for more information as we draw closer to the game’s launch!

‘How about the Washington WhoGivesASh*ts?’: NFL fans react as ‘Demon Cats’ floated as new name for Washington Football Team

The team formerly known as the Washington Redskins have provoked howls of derision from NFL fans after they released a shortlist of potential new names which include ‘Icons’, ‘Renegades’ and more bizarrely, the ‘Demon Cats’.

The Washington franchise has been operating under the magnificently uninventive ‘Washington Football Team’ moniker since dropping their decades-old Redskins name after it was deemed racially insensitive before the start of last season, as the NFL seemingly embraced cancel culture with open arms.

The term ‘Redskin’ was considered as a derogatory term towards Native Americans but the franchise had long resisted any calls for a more ‘woke’ nickname until the wave of ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests last term prompted one of the team’s primary sponsors, FedEx Corp, to pile pressure on team ownership to make a change.

The team soon announced that they would compete under the vanilla ‘Football Team’ name for at least one season, but it seems that the winds of change are in the air in Washington after they distributed a list of potential new team names to season-ticket holders in a bid to generate feedback – and one of those in particular has caused quite a kerfuffle amongst the fanbase.

Yes, the Demon Cats. What exactly is a Demon Cat? Frankly, we have no idea other than to say that it is certainly not a wild animal native to the rolling hills of Washington DC.

But while some of the other suggestions have an air of respectability about them – ‘Aces’, ‘Guardians’ and ‘Royals’ among them – the potential of a their being a professional team of Demon Cats out on the gridiron next season has set some fans’ pulses racing.

If I’m not rooting for the Washington Demon Cats by this time next year something has gone terribly wrong,” argued one commenter, while another summed up the entire name change drama as such: “How about Washington WhoGivesASh*ts?

Please be the Demon Cats because it’s so stupid,” said another, giving their blessing to the unconventional nickname.

As for how ‘Demon Cats’ even became a possibility, it is almost certainly down to someone in the Washington team’s marketing department trying to come up with the most impressive sounding words to tie in with the ‘DC’ in Washington DC, but if they wanted to maintain the link with the city after which they are named there might be a few more possibiliities.

The Washington Presidents, perhaps? Or maybe even the Washington Bureaucrats?

But if they really wanted to embrace the controversial, there is really one one option: The Washington Capitol Rioters.

Check Out The Reveal Trailer For Demon Skin, Hack-And-Slashing To Switch Later This Year

Are you a fan of dark, unforgiving worlds where everything’s against you and there’s no end in sight? Well, bully for you! Buka Entertainment has a 2D fantasy combat game in the works for Switch that you might want to keep a weary eye on — if 2020 didn’t grind down your enthusiasm for unrelenting bleakness, that is.

Demon Skin is the freshly-announced title from developer Ludus Future (or LUDUS FUTURE, if the shouty caps of the press release is to be replicated) which features 2.5D combat in a grisly world, with RPG-style skill trees, weapons and other trinkets that you’ll use to battle a menagerie of fiends, brutes and other demonic spawn in a fight for survival. It’s always a fight for survival when pointy weapons are involved.

As you can see from the trailer above (and the screens below if you scroll down), the game gives off a 2D Souls-ian scent, with the merest whiff of ‘Vania. Apparently you take control of a Wanderer — a violent chap who loves nothing more than lobbing axes, looting downed demons and generally getting stuck in. The PR blurb highlights an intuitive combat stance system”, so the focus appears to be on slow-and-steady combat. It’s out in two weeks on PC, with console releases to follow later in the year.

Sound interesting? Here’s some extracts from the PR blurb with some more info, plus some screens for flavour:

Sophisticated combat system. Improve your skills by mastering various stances for lightning-fast parrying and inflicting maximum damage with spectacular finishing moves! Keep an eye on the level of stamina and other indicators of the character’s physical condition – all these features directly affect the outcome of the battle.
An extensive skill tree. Gain experience to learn new combos and enhance health, stamina, and attack power.
Dozens of enemy types. From skeletons, zombies, and spiders to werewolves, lizards, and golems – fighting each of them requires a different approach.
Huge arsenal for killing monsters. There are more than 30 types of edged and blunt weapons at your disposal and each type is only effective against a certain type of enemies. You can even destroy enemies with your bare hands – it’s not as effective but still a lot of fun.
Secrets and artifacts. Some rare and ancient artifact weapons are hidden in the secret places of the game world. Find it to unlock the impressive super skills after achieving a certain level.
A demon on the outside, a demon within. Collect shards of Crystal and become even stronger, build up your bone armour and turn into a fearsome demon.
Gloomy landscapes in the spirit of dark fantasy. From the icy wastelands and deep dungeons to the twilight forests and abodes of the undead. This cruel world lives a life of its own, but terrifying creatures that inhabit it are not always hostile. On your way, you will not only meet enemies but also powerful allies.
