NBA 2K21 is FREE on Epic Games Store: Download and keep, no strings attached

NBA 2K21 is available as a free download on the Epic Games Store.

As part of its ongoing battle with PC gaming platform Steam, Epic offers a free game to customers each week.

Sometimes the weekly freebies include multiple indie games, but every now and then Epic throws in a triple-A blockbuster.

Previous free games have included things like GTA 5, Borderlands, Civilization 6 and Sega’s incredible horror game Alien Isolation.

One of the higher-profile games to join the weekly free games promotion, NBA 2K21 is the latest title to be added to the service.

Whether you’re a fan of basketball, or just want to give something new a try, NBA 2K21 can be downloaded from now until 4pm BST on May 27.

Best of all, there are absolutely no strings attached. All you’ve got to do is sign up for a free Epic Games Store account and it’s yours to download.

Once you’ve added the game to your Epic Games Store library, NBA 2K21 is yours to keep forever.

NBA 2K21 will be replaced by a different free game at the same time next week. The identity of next week’s free game is currently a mystery, which suggests it could be something pretty special.

It’s a pretty remarkable deal, especially when you look at all of the content that’s on offer.

This includes the popular MyCareer mode, which lets users take a custom player from the rookie leagues to the NBA.

“Embark on your own personal, cinematic basketball journey to reach your ultimate destination: the National Basketball Association,” reads the official description.

“Build up your custom MyPLAYER and take him to the heights of their career and stardom, and make a name for yourself in the global basketball universe.”

One of the more interesting and unique new additions to NBA 2K21 is the open-world Neighbourhood mode.

“Live out your virtual, day-to-day basketball life in a neighborhood that doesn’t sleep and that always offers something to do.

“Jump in on 3v3 streetball runs with your crew, or play for bigger stakes in 5v5 ProAm games. Shop for the latest sneaker and apparel drops. Level up your MyPLAYER at the local training facility.

“In your NEIGHBORHOOD, basketball never stops, and Everything is Game.”

Xbox Series X and Xbox One free games: Download one of the biggest sports games for FREE

Microsoft has announced the latest batch of games to join the Xbox Free Play Days promotion.

Available from now until the morning of May 17, the new Free Play Days releases include NBA 2K21 and TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 2.

The only drawback is that the Xbox One games are only available to Xbox Gold subscribers, and just for a limited time. Think of it like a modern day rental – only you don’t have to pay a penny.

If you want to continue playing after the free period comes to an end, you can purchase both games at a discounted price.

NBA 2K21 is available with a 20% discount, while TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 2 is reduced to just £14.99.

And don’t worry about having to start all over again or missing out on in-game Achievements, because all progress carries over to the paid release.

You can download both games by visiting the Free Play Days section on the Xbox website, or by visiting the storefront via the Xbox dashboard.

As a reminder, Xbox One games are also playable on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S via backwards compatibility.

Developed by 2K Sports, NBA 2K21 is the latest release in the annual basketball series.

The game lets players create a player and take them through a full career, and also features a FIFA-style Ultimate Team mode.

“With extensive improvements upon its best-in-class graphics and gameplay, competitive and community online features, and deep, varied game modes, NBA 2K21 offers one-of-a-kind immersion into all facets of NBA basketball and culture – where Everything is Game.”

TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 2, on the other hand, lets players compete in the infamous motorcycle race.

“Without a shadow of a doubt it is one of the most dangerous motorbike races in the world. In TT Isle of Man – Ride On the Edge 2, you prove your worth in different championships before setting out to conquer the Snaefell Mountain Course, a 60 km-long track with both winding and straight sections that will push your riding skills to the limit.

“TT 2 features 17 additional tracks, 18 different motorbikes including classic models, and the official riders.

“And now it’s more realistic than ever, thanks to entirely revamped physics and faithfully reproduced rider movements.

“Fine-tune your motorbike, upgrade its performance and monitor its data in real time so you can stay competitive. TT2 also offers a brand-new open world, a biker’s paradise where you can test your bike settings and gain the experience you’ll need to win the TT Isle of Man title!”

The account went on to add: “Included in the May 7th #Warzone Patch Notes – General changes to loot and Bug Fixes to map exploits & more.

“Weapon balancing to AMAX, FARA 83, Streetsweeper, & more.

“Attachments changes to various Barrels, Optics, and Stocks.”

You can find full patch notes for the May 7 Warzone update – which were detailed in a post on the Raven Software website – below…

Call of Duty Warzone: Activision teases latest update

Loot that spawns across both Verdansk and Rebirth Island has been adjusted as follows…

Common variant removed from ground loot

Uncommon variant removed from ground loot

Rare variant removed from Supply Boxes

Epic variant removed from Supply Boxes

Hauer 77

Common variant added to ground loot

Uncommon variant added to ground loot

Rare variant added to Supply Boxes

The Streetsweeper’s wide availability fostered a dynamic where passive play was incentivized and rewarded. We do not think this type of play is particularly compelling for either party when players do not have the necessary tools in the early-game to effectively counter it.

Fixed additional map locations in Verdansk that allowed players to reach out-of-bounds areas. This is on top of the locations that we addressed last week.

Fixed a bug causing Player models to initially load as low resolution at the start of a BR match.

Fixed a bug with the Cold War AK-47, FARA 83, XM4, and RPD where they were having their ADS Move Speed and Firing Move Speeds decreased with the Tactical and SAS Combat/Spetsnaz Stocks rather than increased.

We would like to preface the following Weapon changes by providing you with some insight on our thought process.

There are millions of you, and when we reduce the effectiveness of a weapon, we are bound to make a change to someone’s favorite gun. As players of this game ourselves, it pains us just as much. However, we remain torn. We are the custodians of this game—we make it for you. In the same light, we are charged with maintaining the health and integrity of the game. In some instances, this requires us to reduce the effectiveness of some universally cherished weapons. When we make a change like this, our intent is the promotion of diversity. We believe what makes a game truly engaging is choice. When we diminish that choice, we take away the agency to play the game your way. This can happen when a weapon becomes so effective that simply not utilizing it puts you at a disadvantage.

With that being said, we feel we are close to a ‘balance homeostasis’ where most options are at the very least viable. Which leaves us to address Time to Kill. The following balance changes are part of our ongoing efforts to raise TTK or at least the individual skill required to reach extreme ones. We ask that you consider these changes not as targeted attacks, but rather as part of a larger initiative to raise the skill ceiling.

We want to give you the runway and the platform to show us your epic plays and proudest moments. We hope that journey of mastery brings you as much enjoyment as it does us.

Assault Rifles

Minimum Damage decreased from 32 to 31 (Warzone Only)

With a great damage profile, locational multipliers, and manageable recoil, the CR-56 AMAX was able to reliably reach extreme TTKs at long-range. This change reduces its fastest minimum damage TTK by about 17% in addition to its slowest minimum damage TTK by an additional shot. Its fastest maximum damage TTK however, remains intact—which is a risk we feel is equal to the reward considering how unforgiving its rate of fire is and how many other weapons it has to contest with in the mid-range engagement space. The CR-56 AMAX is just a tad more dominant than we would like it to be and with this change, our aim is to widen the selection of viable long-range assault rifles.

Headshot Multiplier decreased from 1.5 to 1.35

Base ADS Move Speed decreased by 7%

When combined with a mobility-based stock, the FARA 83 was capable of reaching exceedingly fast ADS firing speeds. We like how the FARA 83 plays, but it is a bit too versatile currently. As part of our efforts to increase the overall Time to Kill, we are reducing the FARA 83’s fastest TTK by 16.6% to compensate for its generous rate of fire and recoil control.

Base Hip Spread increased

Recoil increased slightly

ADS speed reduced slightly

While shotguns tend to have limited viability outside of early game, we find the Streetsweeper is a tad too effective given its rate of fire and ammo capacity when compared to other weapons of its class. This change will decrease its lethal range slightly, punish inaccurate sustained fire, and give a little more time to react.

Submachine Guns

Maximum Damage decreased from 34 to 32

Maximum Damage Range increased by 11%

Base Move Speed increased by 1%

Sprint Out Speed increased by 13%

The Bullfrog’s exceptional headshot multiplier has allowed it to reach one of the fastest TTKs in the game. While this change does not directly affect that multiplier, it does diminish its output. This change reduces the Bullfrog’s ability to consistently achieve extreme TTKs, while not removing it entirely. We felt it was too easy to consistently reduce the TTK to these ranges, so we are asking for a bit more accuracy in exchange for the Bullfrog’s attractive stat line. We are hesitant to label this an outright ‘nerf’ as we believe there is more value to a weapon than its damage alone.

Maximum Damage Range increased by 4%

Open Bolt Delay decreased by 80%

We would like to push SMGs in different and interesting directions to distinguish them from one another. Ideally, we are providing a myriad of options within each weapon category that are supplementary to a multitude of diverse playstyles. In that vein, we are going to push the PPSh-41’s identity in a way that continues to diversify it from its competition in meaningful ways. To us, the PPSh-41 is the quick to fire, high-capacity, short-to-mid range SMG. Not every weapon needs to have the highest TTK potential, but every weapon should at least feel viable and have a niche where it excels given a complementary playstyle.

Combat Recon (Snipers)

Bullet Velocity multiplier increased by 12%

ADS Idle Sway multiplier decreased by 33.3%

As we continue assess the place of Cold War snipers within Warzone, we realize there is much work to be done. In addition to improving the overall efficacy of these weapons and attachments, we will also be taking a close look at their optics. This includes addressing attachment pros where there are few, if any, use cases. In specific… we may see a Cold War equivalent to an immensely popular Modern Warfare sniper attachment very soon.

Axial Arms 3x (Cold War AK-47)

Optic behavior improved

Raider/KGB Skeletal Stock (Assault Rifles, Light Machine Guns, Shotguns, Snipers)

ADS Firing Speed multiplier decreased by 75%

ADS Move Speed multiplier decreased by 10%

Raider/KGB Skeletal Stock (Submachine Guns)

ADS Firing Speed multiplier decreased by 50%

ADS Move Speed multiplier decreased by 10%

SAS Combat/Spetsnaz Stock (Assault Rifles, Light Machine Guns, Shotguns, Snipers)

ADS Firing Speed multiplier decreased by 75%

ADS Move Speed multiplier decreased by 10%

SAS Combat/Spetsnaz Stock (Submachine Guns)

ADS Firing Speed multiplier decreased by 50%

ADS Move Speed multiplier decreased by 10%

Tactical Stock (Assault Rifles, Light Machine Guns, Shotguns, Snipers)

ADS Move Speed multiplier decreased by 75%

Tactical Stock (Submachine Guns)

ADS Move Speed multiplier decreased by 50%

It is crucial to maintain an engagement space where each weapon type can excel, lest we risk guns becoming analogous. In that regard, some weapon types were able to elude mobility as a core weakness given the right attachments. We believe this is in part why assault rifles have been able to assume the role of submachine guns. While it is a priority for us to maintain and embrace gameplay differences between Modern Warfare and Cold War guns, we felt movement speed modifiers in their current state would undermine gameplay integrity and overall weapon diversity if left unchecked. These stocks are still a solid choice, even with such a substantial reduction—which we believe speaks to just how strong they were.

Finally, we would like to address concerns that we are only going to be making changes to Cold War weapons. In the future, we fully intend on taking a closer look at some of the Modern Warfare weapons that have been struggling.

And as always, please continue to share your feedback. We are always listening!

Windows 10: How to download and install the next blockbuster update right NOW

Although Microsoft updates Windows 10 every month with a smattering of security tweaks and performance improvements, it saves the biggest, shiniest features for two blockbuster updates that launch each year. Microsoft typically launches the first of these two feature-filled upgrades in spring, with the second coming in the autumn. The first major upgrade of this year is the imaginatively named May 2021 Update and you can get your hands on it right now – without waiting for the official release date.
That’s because Microsoft has started to roll out the Windows 10 May 2021 Update to its community of beta testers. Dubbed Windows Insiders, these users get their hands on the latest features before anyone else. However, since these features aren’t quite finished, Windows Insiders need to report any issues with their hardware – like speakers or peripherals connected to their PC – as well as software – third-party applications or drivers. This enables Microsoft to iron-out any kinks before the 1.3 billion Windows 10 users receive the update.

Microsoft has a few different tiers of beta testers. These are known as Dev Channel (opting for this will result in more frequent releases with the most rough-and-ready level of polish), Beta Channel (a little less frequent, but still some potential for disastrous gremlins in the code), and Release Preview Channel (this will only update your system with software that’s almost out-of-door so should be very close to the finished product).

Following months of testing, the Windows 10 May 2021 Update is now available in the Release Preview Channel.

That means – barring a catastrophic bug being discovered at the last minute that halts the planned launch in the coming weeks – this is exactly the same update that will be coming to millions of Windows 10 users soon. So, if you want to avoid a wait, you can download Windows 10 May 2021 Update as a Windows Insider now.

OK, here we go. To enrol as a Windows Insider (albeit temporarily) to get the latest blockbuster update ahead of time, head to Start > Settings > Privacy > Diagnostic & Feedback and then check the box next to “Optional Diagnostic Data”. As soon as that’s done, you can now head to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program. Then, all you need to do is hit the “Get Started”.

Make sure you choose the “Release Preview Channel”, then click “Confirm” and restart your PC.

After that, you might find there are a few pending updates. Make sure those download and install on your hardware before moving onto the Feature Update.

To double-check that you’re running the latest and greatest from Microsoft, click on the Start button, then navigate to System and scroll down to see “Windows Specifications” to check for “Version 21H1”.

Windows 10 May 2021 Update comes with a number of handy new improvements. It adds support for external cameras for its facial recognition Windows Hello system – so if you use a USB webcam for improved video call quality, you’ll be able to login to your computer with a quick glance. Elsewhere, Microsoft has upgraded its Windows Defender Application Guard. The latter is a clever feature that lets users open suspicious files or applications in a completely isolated virtualised container. This boosts security as even if the app turns out to be a virus – it can’t get to any of the important files, applications and more actually stored on your hard drive.

According to Microsoft, opening documents from suspicious emails, in particular, should feel noticeably faster in Windows Defender Application Guard.

Unfortunately, that’s about it.

Microsoft doesn’t include much more in the May 2021 Update. That’s because its autumn update, codenamed Sun Valley inside the company, is a real doozy. Microsoft is giving the entire operating system a lick of paint – the first visual overhaul since Windows 10 hit the market back in 2015 – as well as a truckload of new features, including support for AirPods and Apple’s custom-designed AAC audio codec. That should provide a similar easy-peasy Bluetooth pairing as AirPods owners experience with a Mac.

Fortnite update patch notes: Surprise maintenance download out now – here's what it does

Fortnite fans can download a new update on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Android.

Fortnite update 3.15 isn’t necessarily a major patch, so don’t expect new content or big new gameplay changes.

On the plus side, the new update doesn’t require any server downtime, so you won’t miss much action.

According to the patch notes, the new update fixes an annoying problem, specifically with Raz’s Explosive Bow.

Needless to say, the update also makes various stability improvements and fixes one or two cosmetic issues.

Epic Games explains more: “We’ve released a maintenance patch on all platforms to address cosmetic issues, stability, and an issue that could sometimes prevent players from picking up Raz’s Explosive Bow.

“As part of today’s maintenance patch, the unfinished Style of the Tsuki Outfit has been removed. The completed Style will arrive in a future update.”

As pointed out by Fortnite dataminer ShiinaBR, the new download seemingly adds one or two new items to the game files.

“A new file called “BroccoliHacks” / “BroccoliEmoteSync” was added to the files in today’s small update,” ShiinaBR tweets.

“As far as I know, no other file references anything with the code name “Broccoli”, so this could be a currently encrypted emote!”

Following the release of the update, the Wake Rider skin has joined the item shop for 1,200 V-Bucks.

The latest download launches just a few days after the release of update 16.30 on all platforms.

The previous download also introduced a brand new Exotic Bow, while remaining Primal, Makeshift and Bows were added to Creative.

Interestingly, the new update made a handful of improvements to the inventory and inventory management.

“You can now hold the Inventory button with a Craftable item in-hand to jump right to the Crafting tab and hit Accept,” Epic explains. “No more navigating menus in a gunfight!

“Inspecting an item will now show exact number values for stats like damage and fire rate.”

Elsewhere, fans can now unlock the Neymar Jr skin, as well as a whole host of alternative costumes and items.

You can unlock the Neymar Jr items by completing challenges, many of which involve football.

Apex Legends Mobile beta has begun for some as download wait continues

This post originally appeared on Daily Express :: Gaming Feed

Apex Legends Mobile has been teased by developers Respawn Entertainment and publisher EA for some time, with the official port finally confirmed earlier this year.

The good news is that an Apex Legends Mobile beta is being conducted, meaning that some lucky gamers will have the chance to test it out early.

And according to the latest reports, the first of these tests have begun, allowing a select group of Android users to download the game on their phone.

The only downside is that this option is not available to everyone, and it could be a while before it becomes an option in the UK.

To begin with, the Apex Legends Mobile beta will be available to a few thousand lucky players in India and the Philippines.

But after this small initial rollout, EA is planning on opening up the Apex Legends Mobile beta to more players and regions around the world.

The first Apex Legends Mobile betas, which are launching in Spring 2021, will also only be available for Android devices.

EA said that as the size and scope of the beta tests expand iOS support will get added, along with a page that lets fans pre-register for the game and to sign-up for news about the beta.

And unlike other games, Apex Legends Mobile will not feature crossplay with other platforms, meaning you won’t be able to play with friends on console or PC.

A new report out today suggests that the new Apex Legends Mobile beta has begun in select regions.

A message from Respawn adds: “The Apex Legends Mobile is currently still in development and being optimised to run on a variety of devices.

“The beta specifically is available for phones running Android 6.0 and up. The mobile devices supported by this test do not represent the finally launched version, and we will support more models in the future.

“The game is still in development and the team is working to ensure Apex Legends Mobile truly feels like Apex Legends at its core.

“To start, only the World’s Edge map and some of the original Legends from the game will be playable. Additional details on the content available will be made closer to the launch of the game.

“To start with during our tests, the game will only be available on Google Play. We should note that the game should not be sideloaded through a third party site or direct APK download.

iOS 14.5 available to download now. These are the biggest features coming to your iPhone

This post originally appeared on Daily Express :: Tech Feed

It’s here! iPhone owners can now dive into their Settings menu and start downloading the latest major update to iOS. Known as iOS 14.5, the new mobile operating system brings all the usual performance tweaks as well as some exciting new features. Apple has included more than 200 new emoji, new tighter privacy controls, a redesigned Podcasts app, and a fix for Covid-19 face coverings stopping Face ID facial recognition unlocking your iPhone.

Apple confirmed that iOS 14.5 would be coming to iPhone owners worldwide following its first event of 2021 last week. During the 60-minute presentation, which was streamed online, Apple announced a number of new gadgets, including a redesigned iMac, an updated iPad Pro with as much power as a MacBook, a new colour for its iPhone 12 and AirTags. The latter can be attached to wallets, camera bags, rucksacks and more – bringing these real-world objects into the Find My app on iOS to help track the location whenever they’re misplaced.

AirTags require iOS 14.5 before they can be set-up and used on your iPhone. Pre-orders for these trackers, which cost £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a four-pack, launched at the end of last week, with the first units expected to be dropped in the post in the coming days. As such, it makes sense for Apple to make its iOS 14.5 update available today. That means most iPhone owners should have downloaded and installed iOS 14.5 by the time AirTags are available on Apple Store shelves from April 30, 2021 onwards.

If you’re ready to check out iOS 14.5, you should head to Settings > General > Software Update. Be warned though, whenever Apple flips the switch on these feverishly-anticipated operating system upgrades, it can take a little while to appear. With millions of iPhone owners trying to get their hands on the new operating system right now, it might be worth putting down your handset and trying again in a half-hour or so.

Whatever you do, don’t buy an iPad or iMac this weekend

If you have been lucky enough to start your iOS 14.5 download, here are the best features you can expect to see coming to your iPhone today.

Apple is bundling more than 200 new emoji with the new operating system to help jazz-up your text messages. Some of the biggest changes to the emoji library in iPadOS 14.5 resolve around skin tones. The pictograms for couples can now be customised so that each member of the couple has their own distinct skin tone.

Until now, these emoji were still restricted to the default Simpsons-like yellow shade. Apple added the same feature to the icons of couples holding hands back in late 2019.

There are new smiley-style emoji to represent someone exhaling, a face with spiral eyes, and a face covered with clouds. Hearts are some of the most popular emoji, so Apple is adding a heart on fire and one patched-up with plasters. As well as the new additions, Apple has also tweaked some existing emoji.

Most notably, it has removed the two droplets of blood falling from the needle in its syringe emoji, ostensibly to make the whole process seem a little less… bloody. The fluid inside the syringe is changing from red to clear too. People have been increasingly turning to this emoji to represent vaccination, so this change makes the icon look a little more like an Oxford-AstraZeneca shot, and not a blood sample.

A completely redesigned Podcasts app is also coming in iOS 14.5. Apple has overhauled the look of the app, which now includes show and episode pages that look closer to what we see from music streaming service Apple Music. Not only that, it will offer Podcast listeners the chance to pay a subscription fee to unlock advert-free episodes as well as exclusive content.

In addition, Siri no longer has a female voice by default and will now offer more diverse voice options in English.

While helpful at reducing the spread of coronavirus, face-coverings are pretty unhelpful when it comes to Face ID, which is found on iPhone X, iPhone Xs, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and the iPad Pro range. It scans your face to authenticate contactless payments, unlock the handset, and open secure apps – like mobile banking.

With iOS 14.5, Apple will allow Face ID to unlock your smartphone whenever it detects a face-covering blocking its scan. To do this without making your iPhone less secure, Apple will look for an unlocked Apple Watch in close proximity.

If the software determines that your Apple Watch is close enough to be on your wrist, unlocked and signed in with the same Apple ID account, it will let Face ID work. That means you’ll be able to check your bank balance before paying with a card, answering WhatsApp texts and check a shopping list on your iPhone without resorting to a PIN code to unlock your smartphone each time.

iOS 14.5 brings tighter privacy controls for iPhone owners too. Dubbed App Tracking Transparency, this new requirement from Apple forces all apps to request your permission before tracking personal data between apps or websites owned by other companies for advertising or sharing their data with data brokers. So, if your searches are going to be shared with advertisers to prompt targeted adverts on the same topic in future, the app will send a pop-up requesting permission before it’s able to act.

In Settings, iPhone users will be able to see which apps have requested permission to track so they can make changes to their choice at any time. The change has caused furore from some of the biggest advertisers on the planet, including Facebook, which has spoken numerous times about the impact App Tracking Transparency could have on ‘small businesses’.

iOS 14.5 release has arrived: 3 things to do BEFORE you download the iPhone upgrade

This post originally appeared on Daily Express :: Tech Feed

Apple has flipped the switch and started to roll out iOS 14.5 to iPhone owners worldwide. The hotly-anticipated update, which has been in testing for two months, brings 200 new emoji characters, a redesigned Podcasts app, compatibility with Apple’s newly-announced AirTag trackers, and a new trick to ensure Face ID can still unlock your iPhone when wearing a face covering.

To start updating to the latest version of Apple’s hugely successful operating system, you need to head to Settings > General > Software Update.

Apple started to roll out iOS 14.5 at around 10am in California, which works out at around 6pm in the UK. If you are already running iOS 14 on your smartphone, you should have no problems installing iOS 14.5 on your handset. If you haven’t made the jump to iOS 14 yet, here are all the devices that will work with this latest software.

Which iPhone models can update to iOS 14.5?

iPhone 12 / iPhone 12 mini / iPhone 12 Pro / iPhone 12 Pro Max / iPhone 11 / iPhone 11 Pro / iPhone 11 Pro Max / iPhone XS / iPhone XS Max / iPhone XR / iPhone X / iPhone 8 / iPhone 8 Plus / iPhone 7 / iPhone 7 Plus / iPhone 6S / iPhone 6S Plus / iPhone SE (1st generation) / iPhone SE (2nd generation) / iPod touch (7th generation)

If your iPhone is on the list above, you’re all set. However, there are three things that are worth doing before you hit the ‘Download and Install’ button in your Settings app.

iOS 14.5 release: 3 things you need to do before installing

First up, it’s always worth backing up your data before making the move to any new version of iOS. With any luck, there won’t be any issues moving your iPhone over to iOS 14.5. However, there have been a few hiccups with iOS upgrades in the past, so we can’t rule anything out.

As such, your first step should be to back-up your iPhone before attempting any update. This can be handled over iCloud – the cloud-based storage option available to every Apple user, or iTunes – provided that you’ve got a Mac or MacBook nearby with the correct cable to complete the back-up. To use iCloud, first you’ll want to connect to a Wi-Fi network, launch the Settings app, then tap your Apple ID at the top of the list. Scroll down and tap on the iCloud tab, then iCloud Backup, and finally, Back Up Now.

Next up, you’ll need some free storage to download the iOS 14.5 update and kickstart the upgrade on your iPhone. If you’re the sort of person who is constantly swatting away warnings about ‘Low Storage’ every time you take a photograph, video, or try to install a new app – you’ll need to make some ruthless cuts before attempting to upgrade.
