Jackie Buntan beats Ekaterina ‘Barbie’ Vandaryeva in fight

Jackie Buntan beats Ekaterina ‘Barbie’ Vandaryeva in fight

Muay Thai aces Jackie Buntan and Ekaterina Vandaryeva fought out a tight scrap as the kickboxer known as ‘barbie’ suffered a second loss with ONE Championship – although Buntan admitted her opponent had thrown more shots than her.

Some fans felt that glamorous Vandaryeva should have won on the scorecards at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, where US brawler Buntan earned a majority decision after upping her workrate towards the end of the showdown.

Boasting a height and reach advantage, Vandaryeva went on the attack in the first round and took control of the second stanza before Buntan landed a clean combo late on, catching the eyes of the judges to improve her record to 22 wins from 27 outings.

Arguably best known for her striking looks, Belarusian Vandaryeva showed the experience she has gained from more than 60 kickboxing bouts, collecting Muay Thai IFMA world and European titles, a World Kickboxing Network belt and a notable victory in 2011 over future UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

The 28-year-old shook her head as the decision was announced and later promoted a post from a management company account on Instagram that said: “We both know who was the winner of this fight.”

Vandaryeva did not immediately comment after the contest but shared messages she had been sent and told her followers: “Thank you very much for your support. I am getting stronger.”

Undefeated Buntan earned her second professional win. “I wasn’t able to talk to her,” she said of Vandaryeva, with whom she shared the briefest of embraces afterwards.

“I agree it was a close fight but I was able to pick it up, especially in the last round, and score more shots that landed.

“I feel like she may have been throwing more but I was missing a whole lot of her shots, whereas I was landing more.

“I think I scored the clear shots which were landing, which helped me out with the scorecards going in my favor.”

Not everyone agreed. “Nope,” said one viewer upon learning the result. “I had round one even, round two Vandaryeva, round three Vandaryeva.

“Buntan’s corner kept pressing her to get inside but she was either getting caught with a right or low kick when she came in.

“Vandaryeva touched her up and really only took one clean one-two in that last round.”

In an appraisal that most of the audience reacting on social media seemed to agree with, another declared: “Too bad there had to be a winner. It’s a draw from me.”

The official fight report from the promotion suggested that Buntan has put herself in line for a crack at the strawweight title with her win.

After pushing her all the way, Vandaryeva will undoubtedly feel that she should also be in the reckoning at the top of the division.

Ex-UFC beauty joins Russian star in Bare Knuckle FC move

Ex-UFC beauty joins Russian star in Bare Knuckle FC move

Ex-UFC beauty Rachael Ostovich joins Russian star Ekaterina Makarova in Bare Knuckle FC move – setting up Paige VanZant rematch.

UFC fighters and social media sensations Paige VanZant and Rachael Ostovich could fight each other again in a bare knuckle match after Ostovich followed her old rival into the sport, joined by Russian brawler Ekaterina Makarova.

MMA pin-up Ostovich is set to fight for the first time since November, when she lost her third straight UFC scrap, after becoming the newest signing for the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC), which made VanZant its best-known star when she joined the promotion last year.

Ostovich joined BKFC shortly after it also signed Ekaterina Makarova, an undefeated Moscow fighter who previously appeared for Russian promotion Top Dog and is expected to make her debut in June.

The development means that beauty brand owner Ostovich could rematch VanZant, the former rival she lost to in January 2019, which turned out to be VanZant’s final win in the UFC.

That was also VanZant’s most recent MMA victory following her points defeat to ex-boxer Britain Hart on her BKFC debut in February, although the newcomer and the promotion appeared keen to continue their apparently productive early relationship despite her unsuccessful start.

Signing the trio of popular female fighters appears to be a marketing dream for BKFC and a way of appealing to new audiences, with VanZant having more than 2.8 million followers on Instagram, where Ostovich boasts more than 743,000 admirers.

Featherweight Makarova, 24, does not quite have the pair’s stratospheric profile at this stage but is clearly a rising star and has signed an “exclusive promotional deal”.

“We are keeping a close eye on a lot of talent developing in Russia and looking to bring the best to BKFC,” said Dave Feldman, the promotion president, announcing the move.

“Ekaterina is just that: one very tough lady who has tremendous ability and is as strong and skilled as they come. This marks our second signing from Russia in as many months as she joins Evgeniy Kurdanov who joined our team in March.”

When male light-heavyweight Kurdanov signed up, Feldman pointed to the “huge” appeal held by BKFC in Russia, which the promotion hopes to tap into.

Another experienced fighter to have joined BKFC in the past week is Pearl Gonzalez, the 34-year-old former UFC and Invicta FC strawweight.

“I made the biggest sacrifice of my life, packed up everything and moved to Brooklyn, New York permanently to train with the greatest female boxer in the world,” revealed Gonzalez to her vast Instagram following of almost 240,000, explaining that she was joining a training facility part-run by legendary female boxer Cindy Serrano.

“I promise to dedicate my life to becoming the next BKFC world champ and couldn’t be happier to start this new chapter in my life.”

‘That was awesome’: Ukrainian MMA pin-up Ekaterina Shakalova floors opponent with brutal body slam in latest win (VIDEO)

‘That was awesome’: Ukrainian MMA pin-up Ekaterina Shakalova floors opponent with brutal body slam in latest win (VIDEO)

MMA stunner Ekaterina Shakalova slammed opponent Izabela Badurek onto the canvas during an eye-catching win on a Polish MMA card on Saturday, with some fans responding by calling for the 23-year-old to be snapped up by the UFC.

Competing at the Lotos Fight Night event, Shakalova took on local rival Izabela Badurek and quickly had her opponent off her feet on her way to a fourth straight win in her burgeoning career.

Convincing the judges with her display, Shakalova won a unanimous decision on the cards at the end of a 15 minute, three-round bout.

Following Khabib Nurmagomedov’s lead at UFC Vegas 22, when the retired Russian legend streamed the main event while sat alongside promotion president Dana White, Shakalova dumped the whole bout on her Instagram to celebrate her victory.

Improving her record to 5-1, the bantamweight is now on a hot streak since suffering defeat in her second ever outing, at WWFC 16, when she lost to Daria Chibisova via a guillotine choke submission.

But it was her body slam that impressed fans most in the octagon.

“Who has that Ekaterina Shakalova slam? Not f*cking with [her],” said one new-found admirer on Twitter.

“That was awesome,” enthused another. “Ekaterina Shakalova has delivered on both her trips to Poland.”

Elsewhere, some have already suggested that Shakalova is on the “road to the UFC”, but little is known about the native from Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharviv.

A growing fanbase may be heartbroken to learn the grappler is already married, but that still doesn’t stop her sharing candid snaps with her thousands of Instagram followers.

The gym is one of her preferred locations, but Shakalova also likes to model for sultry snaps and show off the natural beauty of her homeland.

“Turn your back on your opponent,” she said alongside a shot of herself throwing a rival to the floor at a tournament last year while calling herself a “grappling girl”. “That’s my style.”

Shakalova is never shy to dispense in-depth dietary advice to her online followers alongside her photos.

“Hard workouts, muscle pain, worries, fatigue – all this is nothing,” she told them, reflecting on her learning process when she finished second at a competition in 2019.

“All thanks to the support of people close to me, who inspired me and put their strength and soul into my preparation, believed in me and were with me all the time.

“[Coming second] does not mean that you need to give up and give up the fight. It means that there are mistakes and you need to correct them, prepare hard and win.”
