Floyd Mayweather makes Logan Paul admission after exhibition bout goes the distance

Mayweather was widely expected to toy with the taller, heavier, less-experienced YouTuber in their eight-round exhibition bout at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

But, despite being by far the more skilled boxer in the ring on Sunday night, the undefeated legend couldn’t find the knockout punch to underscore his dominance over the dogged vlogger.

After a bout that was at times scrappy, as Paul frequently tied up Mayweather to avoid taking clean shots from close range, Mayweather admitted that the YouTube sensation had surprised him with his smarts inside the ring.

“I had fun,” he said after the bout, which had no official winner.

“You gotta realise i’m not 21 anymore, but it’s good to move around with these young guys, test my skills, just to have some fun.

“Great young fighter, tough, strong. He’s better than I thought he was.”

Mayweather said that Paul might struggle to continue his boxing career against similarly-sized fighters, but gave praise to his inexperienced opponent for putting up a tough fight in front of a huge pay-per-view audience.

“As far as with the big guys, the heavyweights, it’s gonna be kinda hard (for him),” he offered.

“But he’s a tough, rough competitor.

“It was good action, we had fun. I was surprised by him tonight.

“Good little work. Good guy. I had fun.”

Talk then turned to what might be next for Mayweather, with a potential rematch with Conor McGregor a possibility, while Paul’s younger brother, Jake, has also made no secret of his desire to step into the ring with the 50-0 legend.

But the Las Vegas native wouldn’t be drawn on his future plans as he hinted that his age may be starting to play a factor in his performances.

“I fought against a heavyweight, but I had fun,” he said.

“Even though he don’t got that much experience, he knew how to use his weight and he knew how to tie me up tonight.

“But I had fun, I’m pretty sure he had fun, and hopefully the fans enjoyed it.

“We don’t know what the future holds,” he continued.

“I’ll talk it over with my team and see where we go from here.

“You gotta realise I’ve been in this game 25 years and I understand I’m not 21, I’m not 25. But I had fun tonight.”

Floyd Mayweather returning for June 6 exhibition fight against Logan Paul

Mayweather had a 50-0 record with 27 knockouts during a career in which he won world titles in five weight divisions over three decades.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla — A month before he returns to the ring at age 44 for an exhibition bout, Floyd Mayweather wound up in a brawl.
The boxing Hall of Famer will face Logan Paul in a pay-per-view event on June 6 at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida. On Thursday, he squared off — sort of — with Paul’s brother, Jake, who prompted the scuffle when he took Mayweather’s cap.
Apparently incensed that Mayweather called both Pauls “fake fighters” and offered to take on both on the same night, Jake Paul confronted the former champion. In what appeared to be a staged get-together, Paul grabbed Mayweather’s white baseball cap and “security” jumped between the two as Mayweather surged toward Paul.
“I don’t have to talk about what I’m going to do. The world knows what I’m going to do,” Mayweather said. “I’m willing to fight both in the same night.”
Mayweather had a 50-0 record with 27 knockouts during a career in which he won world titles in five weight divisions over three decades. Among the opponents he beat were Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya before he retired in 2015 — though he stopped mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor in 2017.

In the 26-year-old Paul, Mayweather will face a star created on the internet. Followed by more than 20 million on YouTube, Paul began boxing in 2019 with a six-round bout against fellow YouTube star KSI. A former high school wrestler, Paul will have a 6-inch height advantage over Mayweather, but obviously gives away plenty in ring experience and mastery.
“Logan Paul is huge on YouTube and he has a huge following. He’s a big guy, strong guy,” Mayweather said. It’s just fun. It’s entertaining. It’s all about entertainment and, of course, when he’s on social media, he’s entertaining to people all the time.”
It’s uncertain if Mayweather was referring to the news conference altercation as entertaining, too.
“I just feel inspired,” Logan Paul said. “I want to beat the (stuffing) out of him. I really do. This fight means so much to me. To my fans. To my family. To everyone watching who thought they couldn’t do something in life. That’s the energy I’m going in with. Everyone says this is impossible. Well it was impossible that I got this fight.”
The undercard will feature heavyweights Jean Pascal against Badou Jack, and super welterweight Jarrett Hurd vs. Luis Arias. Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson will make his boxing debut.
The pay-per-view telecast will be on Showtime.

Ex-Premier League ace who played in Messi exhibition game cops 11 years in jail for smuggling $29MN of cocaine from Colombia to US

Jhon Viafara, who played in the English Premier League and won 34 caps for Colombia, has been jailed for 11 years for his part in smuggling vast amounts of cocaine between his homeland and the States, US prosecutors have said.

Shamed ex-midfielder Viafara has been handed the sentence by a federal court in Texas after being found guilty last November of helping to import at least five kilograms of the Class A substance into the US, including some missions carried out by speedboats and planes via Mexico.

The haul co-organized by the 42-year-old, who was extradited following the trafficking verdict last year, is said to have been worth around $ 29 million.

“The defendant in this case had it all – worldwide fame, wealth, and stature,” said Acting US Attorney Nicholas Ganjei, describing disgraced Viafara’s role in the Gulf Cartel.

“Despite all of this, he chose to use his talents to advance the evil of the drug trade.

‘Traffickers should take note: no matter who you are, no matter where in the world you live, the United States will prosecute you if you join in a conspiracy to send drugs to our country.”

Viafara represented major clubs including Southampton, Real Sociedad and Portsmouth in Europe, although he spent most of his playing days, which spanned more than 500 appearances, in South America.

The arguable highlight of his career was helping Colombian side Once Caldes to win South America’s main club competition, the Copa Libertadores, in 2004.

Speaking when he was pictured being led on to a plane by police last year, Viafara seemed to voice his sorrow at his downfall following his illustrious playing career.

Viafara is said to have reminisced over his time on the pitch with Lionel Messi, who he once joined for a game between the striker and his friends and the rest of the world, playing with the likes of Fabio Cannavaro and James Rodriguez.
