Square Enix could move onto surprise Final Fantasy project after FF7 Remake Part 2

Square Enix could move onto surprise Final Fantasy project after FF7 Remake Part 2

While Motomu Toriyama, who worked on both Final Fantasy X and X-2, said: “The probability is not zero.

“But we are not in a phase where we can talk about it, unless we have finished producing FF7 Remake.”

If you’re a big fan of Tidus and Yuna’s iconic PS2 adventures, and can’t wait to see it continue, then don’t hold your breath for a 10-3 game anytime soon.

It’s unclear how many more games will be part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project, and when all of these games will be released by.

So it could be quite some time till Nomura and co get to work on a potential X-3 game.

This isn’t the first time that Square Enix has teased revisiting a beloved game in the Final Fantasy series besides Final Fantasy 7.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 will use one key feature from PS5 DLC

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 will use one key feature from PS5 DLC

“Additionally, with Intermission, there’s another element introduced: combo moves where Yuffie and Sonon team up, which makes for a different feel in battle strategy. I would like to leverage these, including other elements we tried out in ‘Intermission,’ in our next story.”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is the PS5 version of FF7R, which adds the Yuffie DLC as well as tonnes of PS5 improvements such as a 60FPS mode and a 4K graphics mode.

It remains to be seen when Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 will actually release.

Director Tetsuya Nomura has long said he hopes to release Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 as soon as possible.

Speaking previously, the Kingdom Hearts mastermind said: “We know that everyone wants the next instalment quickly.

“We would also like to deliver it as soon as possible. Since we were also able to see the line of quality from the first instalment, we hope to make the next instalment even better in quality that can make for an even better experience.”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 news: Why release date could be later than you think

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 news: Why release date could be later than you think

With an official gameplay reveal expected soon, Square Enix has revealed more about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2.

One of the most anticipated games of the current generation, FF7 Remake Part 2 will shift the action away from Midgar and into the wider world.

Unfortunately, however, based on recent comments made by the game’s director, the size and scope of the sequel could result in a longer wait for the game to launch.

In an interview with IGN, game director Naoki Hamaguchi explained more about the changes coming to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2.

“As for improvement, or should I say ‘change’, moving forward — because the next instalment will involve Cloud and company to leave Midgar and explore the world map, our next challenge will be to create gameplay that leverages the vastness of the world, unlike what we did in this current title.”

As you can see from the comments, the vast world will play a big part in the sequel, and should lead to a much changed experience.

While this is good news for fans, creating a giant open world is never easy, and could result in a delayed release date.

Fortunately, PS5 fans can bridge the gap by checking out the recently released Episode INTERmission.

The separate INTERmission episode features the return of fan-favourite character Yuffie.

“FF7R EPISODE INTERmission is a brand-new adventure in the world of Final Fantasy 7 Remake INTERGRADE.

“Play as Wutai ninja Yuffie Kisaragi as she infiltrates Midgar and conspires with Avalanche HQ to steal the ultimate materia from the Shinra Electric Power Company.”

The DLC episode features new gameplay additions, as well as unique combat opportunities and monsters.

In fact, according to Square Enix, the next game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga will feature similar gameplay to Episode INTERmission.

Naoki Hamaguchi recently said that Part 2 would likely feature the combo moves introduced in INTERmission.

“With INTERmission there’s another element introduced: combo moves where Yuffie and Sonon team up, which makes for a different feel in battle strategy.

“I would like to leverage these, including other elements we tried out in INTERmission, in our next story.”

While INTERmission is available as a PS5 exclusive, fans can check out the full game on both PS4 and PlayStation 5. An Xbox release is expected soon.

Man’s Waffle House punishment for losing fantasy football goes viral

Man’s Waffle House punishment for losing fantasy football goes viral

A Mississippi man had to spend 24 hours at Waffle House for losing his fantasy football league, but could shave one hour off the clock for every waffle he ate.

WASHINGTON — A Mississippi journalist lost his fantasy football league, but won some fans across the internet by chronicling a stomach-filling adventure inside a Waffle House.

Lee Sanderlin, an investigative reporter with the Clarion Ledger, tweeted Thursday that he had to spend 24 hours inside a Waffle House because he came in last place in his fantasy football league. He explained that for every waffle he ate, one hour was shaved off the 24 hour clock.

The punishment was actually his idea too, Sanderlin explained, because he was convinced at the time that he wouldn’t come in last place. Clearly, he was very wrong.

Sanderlin started Thursday at 4:07 p.m. Central at one of the chain’s locations in Brandon, Mississippi.

He wound up eating nine waffles and spent 15 hours inside the restaurant, tweeting his way through the ordeal. Less than 24 hours later, his saga has gone viral racking up more than 100,000 likes and tens of thousands of retweets.

While Sanderlin quickly made his way through two waffles in the first hour, things got a whole lot tougher from there on out.

While he was already in “immense discomfort” after four waffles, Sanderlin eventually pushed ahead with waffle five.

“That’s 5 hours shaved off and an incredible amount of agony for my intestines,” he tweeted Thursday evening

After seven hours, Sanderlin said he had consumed six waffles and still had 11 more hours to go. His attempts at taking on a seventh waffle did not go well initially.

“Full of waffles but devoid of life,” he tweeted shortly after midnight.

Three hours later, he finally made it through that seventh waffle and planned out his strategy to order two more waffles around 6 a.m., so he could leave around seven in the morning.

“That would be 9 waffles and an amount of calories I don’t want to think about,” he tweeted.

At 6:37 a.m., Sanderlin said he finished his ninth waffle and had spent 15 hours in the restaurant. He assured all his new Twitter followers that he had tipped the Waffle House employees well for letting him hang out overnight.

“The sun is rising, it’s a new day and I’m never eating waffles again,” he tweeted. “This was horrible and I recommend no one ever do this.”

While Sanderlin may be picking other breakfast foods from now on, not everyone online was convinced the punishment was that bad.

Waffle House even got in on the fun tweeting “Sounds like someone WON his fantasy football league, not lost…”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2: Bad news for fans hoping for E3 2021 update

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2: Bad news for fans hoping for E3 2021 update

One hotly tipped unannounced game from Square Enix that could get revealed at E3 2021 is Final Fantasy Origin.

This is reportedly an action-focused spin-off developed in collaboration with Team Ninja.

Final Fantasy Origin is believed to be a Souls-like game with a setting that ties into the original Final Fantasy game that kickstarted it all.

Final Fantasy Origin is reportedly a PS5 exclusive as well.

News on another PS5 exclusive, Final Fantasy 16, is also due to drop in 2021.

Towards the end of last year Yoshi-P said fans could look forward to news on FF16 dropping in 2021.

However, it’s unclear if an update will come during Square Enix’s event at E3, or if news could be saved up for a future PlayStation stream.

Mini Review: Astalon: Tears of the Earth – Likeable, High Fantasy Metroidvania Action

Astalon: Tears of the Earth is yet another retro-inspired action platformer on Switch eShop, with a sprinkling of light RPG elements. It tells the tale of an unspecified planet that falls into chaos after an endless battle between its many kingdoms. After decades of surviving in the wasteland, a band of three heroes journey into the Tower of Serpents in the hope of saving their village. It’s a fairly bog-standard plot, but one that ultimately feels quite lean, with little fat to distract from the strong gameplay on offer here.

You play as all three heroes, interchangeable at various campfires set up within the tower: there’s Arias, the keen fighter who prefers close quarter combat; Algus, a stoic wizard who can shoot powerful orbs towards enemies; and Kyuli, a sultry rogue with a slow, but accurate long-ranged bow. Each character has their own stats which can be upgraded via the mighty Epimetheus, a fearsome beast who grants our heroes new abilities in exchange for the soul of Algus.

The gameplay feels very much like your average Metroidvania, with multiple pathways to explore, locked doorways, and a smattering of collectibles to gather on your way. Certain pathways require a specific character in order to progress; for example, Kyuli can jump higher than Arias and Algus, which may be required for accessing high ground. Similarly, Arias can cut down blockages, and Algus can activate magical switches. It’s great that the game encourages you to play as all three characters, but it’s mighty frustrating when you have to backtrack to the nearest campfire in order to pick the right character.

The enemies littered throughout the tower are varied and continually interesting; some float around the area, some can fire projectiles, and others simply charge at you with reckless abandon. Mini boss encounters happen rarely, and when they show up, they always prove to be a nice change of pace, albeit not particularly very challenging. The main bosses are excellent, however, providing tough experiences without ever feeling overbearing.

The game offers up multiple graphical filters depending on your preference (although annoyingly, you can only access this via the main menu). By default, the pixel-heavy visuals appear softened, giving off a more retro feel, but you can swap this out for a ‘proper’ CRT filter, a black and white filter, or none at all. We’ve rarely seen a game with this many graphical options, which is genuinely great to see. The game otherwise looks pretty good throughout; the sprites and environments are fairly basic, but there animation and effects are strong throughout, and there’s a nice use of colour.

With a great variety of environments, simple gameplay, and a strong line-up of enemies, Astalon: Tears of the Earth turns out to be one of the more successful action platformers we’ve seen in recent months. It will likely only last a handful of hours, but there’s a lot here to love, and it’s a relative no-brainer if you’re a fan of high fantasy Metroidvanias.
