Forza Horizon 5 release date and Mexico gameplay joins Redfall news for Xbox

Forza Horizon 5 has been officially announced during the Microsoft and Bethesda E3 showcase.

Confirming earlier reports, Forza Horizon 5 will take place in an open world Mexico setting, and have a November 9 release date.

The exciting news was announced alongside a new gameplay trailer, which showcases the stunning Mexico setting.

According to Microsoft, the new Forza Horizon sequel will feature a “deep campaign” complete with new story missions.

One of the more interesting new additions is EventLab, which lets players create their own custom races, challenges and game modes.

“Create your own expressions of fun with the new EventLab gameplay toolset including custom races, challenges, stunts, and new game modes.

“Customise your cars in more ways than ever before. Use the Gift Drops feature to share your custom creations.”

The Mexico setting is shaping up to be one of the most diverse yet, containing deserts, jungles, hidden ruins, beaches and canyons.

Fans will even be able to explore a towering snow-capped volcano, as well as a huge stadium.

“Lead breathtaking expeditions across the vibrant and ever-evolving open world landscapes of Mexico with limitless, fun driving action in hundreds of the world’s greatest cars,” reads the official description.

“Take on awe-inspiring weather events like towering dust storms and intense tropical storms as Mexico’s unique, dynamic seasons change the world every week. Keep coming back for new events, challenges, collectibles, and rewards, and new areas to explore.

“Team up with other players and enter the Horizon Arcade for a continuing series of fun, over-the-top challenges that keep you and your friends in the action and having fun with no menus, loading screens or lobbies.”

With Forza Horizon 5 an Xbox exclusive, the game will be available as a free download for Game Pass subscribers at launch.

The Forza Horizon 5 announcement was followed by news of a brand new Xbox IP called Redfall.

The co-op shooter takes place in Massachusetts, where vampires have taken over a small town.

“The quaint island town of Redfall, Massachusetts, is under siege by a legion of vampires who have blocked out the sun and cut the island off from the outside world.

“Trapped with a handful of survivors against diabolical enemies threatening to bleed the town dry, choose your hero from a diverse roster, grouping up with others to create the perfect team of vampire slayers. Redfall is an open-world co-op FPS being developed by Arkane Austin and will launch exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC in Summer 2022.”

Forza Horizon 5 is shaping up to be a must-play game and it hasn't even been announced yet

The Forza Horizon series has been a highlight for an Xbox brand starved of blockbuster exclusives.

And it looks like a new game in the series could be unveiled soon, perhaps even at this year’s online-only E3 event.

If the rumours are to be believed, Forza Horizon 5 is shaping up to be another must-have Xbox exclusive.

The latest reports suggest the game will be set in sunny Mexico, which has pretty much everything you could want for an open-world driving game.

Mexico has big, bustling city locations, beautiful countryside, plenty of famous landmarks and a generous supply of stunning beaches.

There’s also potential for some awesome off-road gravel racing in the mountain areas off the beaten track.

Hints of a Mexican setting began with a Twitter exchange between industry insider Jeff Grubb, and Windows Central senior editor Jez Corden.

Previous rumours suggested a Japanese setting, which was seemingly shot down by Grubb.

In terms of a release date, the belief is that Forza Horizon 5 could end up launching in late 2021, alongside Halo Infinite and Starfield.

Considering all three games would be available with Xbox Games Pass on day-one, the 2021 holiday season could be huge for Microsoft.

The rumours of a 2021 Starfield release emerged during a recent episode of the Xbox Two podcast.

Microsoft and Bethesda are working their hardest to have the game ready for the holiday release window.

The game is said to be “sort of finished”, with Bethesda working on polishing the game and fixing bugs.

Unfortunately, however, it’s bad news for PlayStation fans, because the latest reports suggest Starfield will be an Xbox exclusive.

Not much else is known about Starfield, which is Bethesda’s first new franchise in 25 years.

“Discover Starfield, the new space epic currently in development by Bethesda Game Studios,” reads the official Starfield description.

“Starfield is the first new franchise in twenty-five years from the acclaimed developers of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series.”

One thing we do know is that Starfield will be a single-player experience, unlike Fallout 76.

Xbox Series X games rumours: Forza Horizon 5, Persona 5, Elder Scrolls 6 and Elden Ring

Xbox Series X and S fans have been given an update on games that could be heading to Microsoft’s next-gen console soon. We already know that the 2021 Xbox Series X and S exclusive line-up is confirmed as including the eagerly anticipated Halo Infinite as well as Psychonauts 2, CrossfireX and much more. And it looks like Microsoft could have plenty of unannounced surprises up their sleeve as well – with one of these being Forza Horizon 5.
There have been plenty of Forza Horizon 5 rumours swirling around recently, with an alleged map for the new Playground Games open world racer reportedly leaking.

And this ‘leaked’ map could show that the next Forza Horizon game will be set in Japan, with Tokyo, Mount Fuji and the Gunma region (which is where Initial D is set) all possible locations for Forza Horizon 5.

If you’re excited about the prospect of a new Forza Horizon game then the good news is the next entry in the hugely popular series could be launching this year.

In-the-know journalist Jeff Grubb was recently asked on Twitter whether Forza Horizon 5 will be launching this year.

And the VentureBeat journalist simply replied with a GIF of Easy A star Emma Stone saying: “I think so.”

Forza Horizon 5 is yet to be announced by Microsoft, so if it is launching in 2021 it would be a pleasant surprise for Xbox fans.

Elsewhere rumour has it that Persona 5 could be launching on Xbox, with the critically acclaimed JRPG from Atlus possibly arriving on Xbox Game Pass.

Both Windows Central journalist Jez Corden and Shpeshal_Ed from the XboxEra Podcast appear to be hinting that Persona 5 – which is currently exclusive to PlayStation – could be heading to Xbox.

Corden appeared to drop a Persona 5 hint when replying to an RPG fan on Twitter.

Twitter user @HazzadorGamin posted their hopes for the Persona franchise to make its Xbox debut.

The tweeter wrote: “I hope Xbox guys get to experience Persona series soon #Persona5”.

To which Corden simply replied with a smiley face.

Elsewhere @Shpeshal_Ed also appeared to drop heavy hints that Persona 5 could be heading to Xbox.

The XboxEra co-host quoted a tweet they posted towards the beginning of February which said: “Seems like Yakuza isn’t the only popular Sega franchise Microsoft are trying to get into Game Pass”.

And quoting this tweet now they simply added an image of Persona 5 protagonist Joker with an Xbox logo.

So, from the sounds of it – not only could Persona 5 be arriving on Xbox, but it could be launching on Xbox Game Pass.

In other Xbox news, more details have emerged about The Elder Scrolls 6 – one of the most highly anticipated games on the horizon.

This news comes courtesy of leaker Tiffany Treadmore, who previously leaked the huge news that E3 2020 was being cancelled and also dropped Nintendo Direct information early.

Treadmore has revealed that The Elder Scrolls 6 could have “survival mechanics” as well as a “Rune Drawing” mechanic for crafting new magic spells.

And finally if you’re counting down the days till your next official look at Elden Ring then you may not have too long to wait.

According to the rumour mill a gameplay trailer for Elden Ring with unseen footage will be released on April 8.

This is ahead of the Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin collab allegedly releasing in August this year.

Elden Ring first appeared during the Xbox E3 event in 2019 but official announcements on the highly anticipated project has been thin on the ground since then.
