While co-stars are picking up at least £10,000 apiece for the show’s new tie-in with car giant Citroen motors, show rules mean they are missing out potentially thousands more.

Just four sets of armchair telly critics from Gogglebox will appear in the advert for the company’s new electric vehicles.

But their cash has been shared out equally with all the show’s participants to avoid rows.

Citroën’s new campaign also involved Giles and Mary, Marcus and Mica, as well as Pete and Sophie.

A source told The Sun: “Those couples will be getting a little bit an extra for the work they’ve put in on the ads.

“But everyone is getting at least £10,000 each as not everyone can appear in the commercials and it wouldn’t be fair for some people to miss out and not share in the popularity of the show.”

The advert is a continuation of Citroën’s new The French Car That Speaks Your Language campaign, which aims to break the jargon surrounding cars with simple and easy language.

Eurig Druce, Citroën UK managing director, said: “With the The French Car That Speaks Your Language campaign, Citroën is showcasing that while it may be a French brand, it is very much in tune with British audiences.

“Keen to cut out the jargon and make the purchase experience as simple as possible for our customers, we have launched a number of new initiatives in recent months, including our Fair Pricing policy, the new online Citroën Store and the virtual showroom.”

They added: “By forming a partnership with the hugely popular Gogglebox we hope to amplify our message even further with our wonderful New Citroën ë-C4 100% electric.”

Maureen Lipman quits Celebrity Gogglebox episode due to 'dangly bits'

Hull’s very own Maureen Lipman walked out of an episode of Celebrity Gogglebox because of excess “dangly bits”.

Whilst watching the dating show Naked Attraction, the Coronation Street actress could not quite believe what she saw.

Joined by her old friend and fellow actor Giles Brandreth, the soap star who plays Tyrone Dobbs’ grandmother Evelyn, thought appearing on the Channel 4 show would simply be “a few quips and done”.

Lipman revealed the hours of filming required for the show made the process something which had to be “endured” and claims the editors axed her “witty” lines.

In an interview with Radio Times she explained: “They’re not really interested in our opinions on what they’re giving us.

“I’d seen Gogglebox and I thought: ‘Oh, [ours] is the grown-up version, is it? But it’s your reaction to 12 dangling willies they want. They’re searching for ways to make me go: ‘Urgh!’

“So I thought: ‘Well, actually, no, life is too short to watch a series of hopeless men dangle their bits and pieces in my direction. So I’m going’.”

Brandreth also agreed adding: “Some of the things that Maureen has said are Oscar-winning funny. But what do they use? Us yawning!”

In un-aired scenes Maureen apparently walked out of the room during filming for the show as they were forced to watch Channel 4 dating show Naked Attraction and came back with a supermarket bag-for-life on her head.

But it was cut out of the final broadcast version.

Some of the stars taking to their sofas in the latest celebrity special are Lorraine Kelly and her daughter Rosie, and Spice Girl Mel C and her brother Paul.

They’ll be joined by radio DJ Clara Amfo and her brother Andy, football pundits Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards, Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, Denise Van Outen and her partner Eddie, and Nick Grimshaw and his niece Liv.

Gyles Brandreth explains why ex Celebrity Gogglebox co-star Sheila Hancock left show

Gyles Brandreth explains why ex Celebrity Gogglebox co-star Sheila Hancock left show

TV star Gyles Brandreth is currently starring in Channel 4’s Celebrity Gogglebox alongside English actress Maureen Lipman. The 73-year-old author did appear in the first series of the programme with his pal Sheila Hancock, although the 88-year-old actress decided not to return for the next instalment.

And now, Gyles has opened up about her departure.

When asked if the award-winning star had “had enough” of the writer, Gyles admitted that it was quite likely.

“Well, they asked Sheila and me to go on the canals, because Timothy West and Prunella Scales decided to retire from touring on canals.

“So I think Sheila felt that one series with Gyles in a year is enough, thank you very much,” he told this week’s Radio Times.

When not in a barge, the actor can be seen watching some television with Coronation Street star Maureen.

Gyles said they spend many hours at his home watching TV in order to film the show.

He told the publication that it was impossible to act his way through, as it takes a long time to record and they never know what they are going to see.

“You’ve just got to sit and endure. You do end up really being yourself,” he said.

Maureen and Gyles are regulars on the Celebrity edition of Gogglebox but have revealed not everything they discuss is shown.

Appearing on This Morning, Maureen remarked: “I have to say, oh, look, I’ve got the same blouse on, see how I recycled.

“I thought that I was going into something where I was going to be a sort of female Will Self and I was going to comment on people.

“I didn’t realise they were just going to show us lots and lots of mens’ bits.

“We say really witty things don’t we Gyles and it all gets cut in favour of us going ‘Ew!’ and ‘What’s that? Oh, I didn’t realise people were growing aubergines like that?’”

Of course it is likely that due to the number of celebrities appearing, it’s impossible to include everything.

The new series of Celebrity Gogglebox will see Lorraine Kelly and her daughter Rosie appear.

The presenter posted on her Twitter account: “So looking forward to this – @Rosiekellysmith and I had such a laugh. Ruby was an angel!”

Nick Grimshaw and niece Liv, Denise Van Outen and partner Eddie, and Eammon Holmes and Ruth Langsford will also return.

It’s also been rumoured Sir Tom Jones will join The Voice co-star Anne Marie on the sofa to tune into this week’s TV.

A source told The Sun: “Sir Tom has been on the wish-list for Gogglebox bosses for a long time.

“His schedule is incredibly busy but this time they have managed to secure him for filming.

“Everyone is hugely excited about Sir Tom coming on board.”

The chemistry between Sir Tom and Anne Marie is said to be “fantastic”.

Celebrity Gogglebox was hit with 200 Ofcom complaints in late 2020 when it last aired due to jokes made by Shaun Ryder and Bez about drugs.

Eamonn Holmes also hit out at the series for cutting out the moment he spoke about his dad’s death.

The This Morning host said he was “hurt beyond belief” by the “cruel edit”.

Celebrity Gogglebox airs Friday on Channel 4 at 9pm.
