Royal Family LIVE: Kate and William to finally reclaim spotlight from Meghan and Harry

Royal Family LIVE: Kate and William to finally reclaim spotlight from Meghan and Harry

Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s three-day excursion to New York City, royal experts and stylists have noticed a change in the Duke’s appearance.

The trip marked the couple’s first joint venture since Lilibet Diana was born in June, and their first public appearance since the 37-year-old Prince was pictured for the recent Time cover he shared with his wife.

Experts were quick to spot differences between the cover and the couple’s appearance though, with celebrity hairstylist Tom Smith saying that the royal’s thinner hair could be due to the move from England to California.

He told the Daily Mail: “It seems to look like Prince Harry’s hair is fuller in the Time picture, and it would not surprise me if clever retouching skills helped play a part in defining his hairline and given him a fuller body of hair to match Meghan’s.

“As a natural redhead his hair will be far more susceptible to lightening in the sun.”

The hairstylist also noted that while the Californian sunlight might make the prince’s hair seem lighter it also could make Harry’s hair appear even thinner.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘shoot themselves in foot’ after luxury US travel move

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'shoot themselves in foot' after luxury US travel move

Meghan Markle, 40 and Prince Harry, 37, attended the star-studded Global Citizen Live concert in New York on Saturday, where the couple made a speech about vaccine equity. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex urged first world countries to donate one billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to developing countries, in a move they claim is “necessary” to end the pandemic.

Elsewhere at the concert key commitments were announced through the hard work of many partner organisations, including demands for tough new eco laws to halve US emissions by 2030.

They also called for the “wealthiest nations” to deliver on a £70billion-a-year pledge to help developing countries go green.

However Harry and Meghan have been blasted for their actions of taking a private jet home from the concert, which a royal author has claimed “muddies the waters of their climate message”.

The couple were seen climbing aboard a Dassault Falcon 2000 jet to fly back to their home in Montecito, California where they reunited with their two children Archie and Lilibet.

Images show the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from the Royal Family in early 2020, hugging their team after they stepped off the plane.

Their actions have come under scrutiny from royal author Penny Junor, who questioned why Harry and his wife did not take scheduled flights like his father Prince Charles, or his brother Prince William.

She told The Sun: “I’m sure there were plenty of scheduled flights.

“I do not understand why they are behaving as if they are superstars.

Earlier during their New York trip, the Sussexes had also come under scrutiny as they toured the Big Apple in “gas- guzzling SUVs”.

It comes following comments made by the Duke and Duchess previously about the impacts of climate change and its critical status.

In May, Harry told Oprah Winfrey for an Apple+ TV series: “I believe even more that climate change and mental health are two of the most pressing issues that we’re facing.

“With kids growing up in today’s world — pretty depressing depending on where you live, your home country is either on fire, it’s either underwater, houses or forests are being flattened.”

The pair have faced scrutiny for their use of private jets in the past too, especially following their 2018 royal wedding.

In the year that followed their nuptials, the pair had taken six of ten round trips on private jets, according to The Sun.

These flights included one taken to Italy for a Google climate change summit, as well as trips to Ibiza and Nice.

In August, the prince was also seen taking a private plane to California, following a polo tournament for his Sentebale charity in Aspen, Colorado.

Prince Harry has previously defended his usage of private jets, and insisted that he spends 99 per cent of his life travelling via commercial flights.

In 2019, he said: “Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe, and it’s genuinely as simple as that.”

He explained that he tries to “balance out” the “impact” of private flights by off-setting his CO2 emissions.

The Sussexes concluded their three-day trip by appearing on stage at Central Park’s Global Citizens Festival. Harry and Meghan appeared on stage to huge cheers from Central Park’s Global Citizens Festival crowd.

Prince Harry addressed those present by saying: “are you ready to do what’s necessary to end this pandemic?”

He then handed the microphone to his wife who said: “Hi everybody.

“We get it.

“It’s been a lot, and some people are just over it.”

“But if everyone is over it, it’s never going to be over with.

“There’s so much we can do today that can get us closer to ending this pandemic, and that’s why we’re all here.”

The Duchess of Sussex went on to praise “the most brilliant scientists, researchers, frontline workers and selfless public health leaders” for their work throughout the pandemic.

The couple are now back at their Santa Barbara home in California and have reunited with their children Archie and Lilibet.

Meghan was spotted in casual clothing as she and Harry arrived back in California.

When Prince Harry exited the plane he wore navy jeans, a light casual sweater and buff suede boots.

The Duke of Sussex was loading bags into a waiting Jeep, he then hugged his assistants at Santa Barbara’s private airport.

The trip was the first time the couple had made a public appearance since the birth of their daughter Lilibet in June.

Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry met with Oprah Winfrey years before royal exit with Meghan

Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry met with Oprah Winfrey years before royal exit with Meghan

Jon Kamen, chairman and CEO of media company RadicalMedia, claimed to have joined Harry and Ms Winfrey for a meeting at a London hotel room in 2018. During their encounter, Mr Kamen claimed to have witnessed Prince Harry opening up about his mental health to Ms Winfrey.

Their conversation, Mr Kamen told the Wall Street Journal, provided the inspiration for the format of their mental health series launched in May on Apple TV+, The Me You Can’t See.

Mr Kamen told his producing partners: “Guys, the format of this show, we witnessed it in that hotel room.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for the Duke of Sussex for comment.

Prince Harry and Ms Winfrey’s series encompassed five episodes, each anchored by a conversation between Prince Harry and the journalist.

But it also included interviews with other A-listers, including singer Lady Gaga and actress Glenn Close, and testimonies from people around the world.

One week after the series was released, Apple TV also published a special episode titled A Path Forward, during which Harry and Ms Winfrey held a wide-ranging conversation about mental health with participants from the series.

Prince Harry first announced he had partnered up with Ms Winfrey to produce a mental health series in April 2019.

The Duke, who during the years has made mental health and breaking down the stigma surrounding it one of the pillars of his work, said at the time as part of a statement released on the Sussex Royal Instagram page: “I truly believe that good mental health – mental fitness – is the key to powerful leadership, productive communities and a purpose-driven self.

“It is a huge responsibility to get this right as we bring you the facts, the science and the awareness of a subject that is so relevant during these times.

“Our hope is that this series will be positive, enlightening and inclusive – sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better.

“I am incredibly proud to be working alongside Oprah on this vital series.”

‘Eager to take part!’ Harry and William set to be reunited at upcoming Diana Award’s event

The Royal brothers could make a joint appearance at the upcoming ceremony, at the Northamptonshire stately home, the location where Princess Diana grew up. Tessy Ojo, chief executive of the Diana Award, has said she feels “privileged” to lead the organisation which involves the two brothers.

She told the Daily Mail she hopes the brothers will be reunited at a prize giving ceremony in December.

She said: “To us, it doesn’t matter where in the world they are.

“They are jointly committed to the awards.

“The Dukes will be heavily involved as it will be a whole week of events, so they are eager to take part.”

The Diana award was founded in 1999 by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and aims to honour young people aged between nine and 25 who are working to improve the lives of other people.

The Legacy Award represents a prestigious accolade to celebrate a young person’s outstanding social action or humanitarian work.

Harry and William have been actively involved in previous years with this event.

They both presented the inaugural legacy awards together in 2017 at St James’s Palace.
