Christian McCaffrey exited the Carolina Panthers’ win over the Houston Texans with a hamstring injury

The Carolina Panthers overcame the loss of star running back Christian McCaffrey to a hamstring injury as they moved to 3-0 on the season with a 24-9 road win over the Houston Texans on Thursday night.

Story of the Game

McCaffrey – who was limited to just three games over the 2020 season due to shoulder and ankle injuries – exited the game in the second quarter, with the Panthers leading 7-0 at the time.

Carolina quarterback carried the team on his shoulders, throwing for 304 yards and finding the endzone twice on two touchdowns runs from down near the goal line.

Houston were competitive, limiting the Panthers to just one Darnold score in the first half as they went in at half-time trailing by just one, down 7-6, after rookie QB Davis Mills marked his first competitive start in the NFL with a touchdown pass to Anthony Miller.

But Mills, who completed 19 of his 28 pass attempts for 168 yards and that one TD, also ensured a chastening night under constant pressure from Carolina’s relentless defense which sacked him fours times – taking their season tally to 14 through three games – and hit him nine times.

The Panthers streaked clear of their competition in the second half, though they suffered a second worrying injury on the night as 2021 first-round draft pick, cornerback Jaycee Horn was carted off the field with a suspected broken foot.

Key Plays

The Panthers struck first, going 88 yards on 10 plays on their second possession, with Darnold running in from five yards out for his first of two TDs midway through the first quarter.

Carolina could have added to their lead on their very next series, moving the ball 81 yards on another lengthy, time-consuming drive but were then stuffed by the Texans defense when going for it on 4th-and-1 from the Houston five-yard line.

McCaffrey left the game following a two-yard run earlier on the drive, with rookie Chuba Hubbard – who generally did well in relief – getting stuffed on the fourth-down try from down near the goal line.

Although their defense was keeping them in the contest, Houston’s offense was sleep-walking out of the gate, punting on each of their first four possessions until Mills led his team 64 yards down the field and found Miller in the endzone – although ex-Panthers missed the resulting extra point kick.

Leading by just one point at the break, the Panthers showed their intent to put the Panthers away by scoring on their first drive of the second half, with Tommy Tremble scoring on a seven-yard tight end sweep.

In the fourth quarter, Zane Gonzalez booted a 21-yard field goal to extend Carolina’s lead to 11, only for Slye to counter with a 53-yarder to again make it a one-score game with nine minutes to go.

But Darnold capped a fine personal performance with his second rushing touchdown on the Panthers’ next possession and they held on for the win.

What’s Next?

The Panthers next travel to Dallas as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season with victory over the Cowboys. The Texans are also on the road next Sunday, heading into Buffalo to face the Bills.

Miguel Cano Avenue is one of the main streets of the city of Malaga, a popular tourist destination for both domestic and international travellers.

So far this summer, Spain has not experienced its usual influx of British tourists due to Covid restrictions.

Under the current rules which came into effect today, only fully vaccinated Britons are exempt from quarantine requirements when they return to the UK from Spain.

Everyone else has to spend 10 days in self-isolation.

Strong political reactions in Sweden after two children end up injured in shooting incident: “Disgusting”

Politicians in Sweden reacted strongly to a shooting incident in Flemingsberg, south of Stockholm, where two small children were injured.

“The fact that the violence takes place in an environment where innocent children live shows total indifference and ruthlessness,” Minister of the Interior Mikael Damberg noted in a written comment to TT.

Nine people have been arrested after two children were injured due to gunfire in Flemingsberg south of Stockholm on Saturday night. According to Swedish media, the children are five and six years old and were hit in the legs.

“I want to express my horror and anger over the violence that has affected two children in Flemingsberg,” Damberg said.

“Difficult to put into words”

Johan Forsell of the Moderates believes that the incident has crossed a line.

“This is terrible. It is almost difficult to put into words because this really stands out,” he told TT.

Forsell wants more action to prevent such incidents from happening again. Among other things, he wants Sweden to do as Denmark did and double the punishment if a perpetrator who has been convicted committed the crime in a gang-related context.

“What has been lacking in the debate in recent years is society’s right to be able to protect itself against very dangerous people,” he said.

In a post on Facebook, the Liberals’ party leader Nyamko Sabuni called for more police officers, abolishing penalty rebates, and providing better tools for the police.

“Disgusting ruthlessness”

Christian Democrat leader Ebba Busch also commented on the incident via Twitter.

“This evil spares no means to cross new boundaries. It is simply sad that Sweden has ended up here, but we must acknowledge what reality looks like,” she said.

Spokeswoman for the Green Party, Märta Stenevi, said she was appalled and angry about what happened.

“The fact that violence penetrates environments where young children live is serious and completely unacceptable. Violence, weapons, and gangs have no place in our society,” she noted on Twitter.

The leader of the Left Party, Nooshi Dadgostar, also expresses his sympathy to those affected.

“Two small children who were out playing were hit by the shots. It shows a disgusting ruthlessness that frightens families. My thoughts go to the children and their loved ones,” she wrote in a Twitter message.

Indiana Jones’ lookalike takes reigns as injured Harrison Ford recovers

For the man taking the reins as the whip-cracking hero is actually a stuntman. Harrison, 78, is still recovering from a shoulder injury he got last month while rehearsing a fight scene for the fifth instalment of the Indy saga.

But his stand-in turned heads when hordes of excited fans mistook him for the real deal as they gathered at the film set in the centre of Glasgow. The stuntman was not the only thing doubling up. Plot details for the new movie are a closely-guarded secret but the Scottish city was doing a very good impression of 1960s New York.

Harrison may have been up in a hotel but his co-stars were working. Fleabag actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge was in Cochrane Street. And Boyd Holbrook, of Gone Girl and Narcos fame, was also spotted on set.

12 killed, 20 injured as bus carrying migrants crashes in Turkey

At least 12 people were killed and 20 others were injured after a minibus carrying illegal migrants crashed in eastern Turkey’s Van province on Sunday, Trend reports citing Daily Sabah.

According to the authorities, the crash occurred in Van’s Muradiye district, where the vehicle caught fire after tumbling into a ditch.

Medical teams, firefighters, security forces as well as emergency personnel from Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) were dispatched to the scene.

Turkey has been a key transit point for illegal migrants aiming to cross into Europe to start new lives, especially those fleeing war and persecution. However, journeys often turn lethal, be it a short journey to Greece by sea aboard unsafe boats or in overcrowded minibuses and trucks.

Migrants – mostly from Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan – regularly cross the Iranian border into Turkey on foot before being ferried west to cities such as Istanbul and Ankara.
