Fortnite Season 6 release date, update launch time, live event news, Battle Pass and leaks

After what feels like one of the longest seasons ever, Fortnite developer Epic Games is getting ready to unleash Chapter 2, Season 6.

The Fortnite Season 6 update has a March 16 release date on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Android.

Downtime for Season 6 begins at 4am GMT for fans living in the UK. That’s midnight ET for Fortnite users in the US.

According to Epic Games, the update launch time will vary from platform to platform, although downtime will end at the same time on consoles, mobile and PC.

What’s slightly more confusing is exactly when the new Fortnite season will begin.

The Zero Crisis story cinematic will be available to watch live from 8am GMT. It’s likely the season will begin directly after the premiere of the trailer.

This means players should be able to drop in and experience the Zero Crisis solo mission just after 8am GMT. Express Online will update this story when more information becomes available.

“CH2 Season 6 launches on March 16 with the explosive conclusion of the events of Season 5,” reads an Epic Games tweet. “You’ll play through the culmination of Agent Jones’ mission in the Zero Crisis Finale. This is a solo experience & you can play through it whenever you first log in during the Season.”

Speaking of the trailer, you can watch it for yourself by clicking play (at 8am GMT) on the YouTube embed below.

Fans who skip the viewing of the live cinematic trailer will presumably be able to watch it and play the mission once the game comes back online.

In the run up to Fortnite Season 6, Epic Games has recommended turning up the Cinematics Volume in the Audio tab before downtime begins.

“Chapter 2 Season 6 launches with the explosive Zero Crisis Finale experience,” Epic explains. “Make sure your Cinematics Volume setting is adjusted in the Audio tab before downtime begins.”

To adjust volumes and make other adjustments, simply fire up the options menu and scroll along to the Audio tab, where you’ll find sliders for everything from music, sound effects and voice chat, to dialogue, picture-in-picture and Cinematics.

As for what fans can expect from Season 6, Epic has been pretty stingy with the teasers, although in one previous tweet, Agent Jones can be heard requesting access to restricted file 8752.

After his credentials are revoked, Jones can then be heard requesting access to all materials relating to The Seven, which is also denied.

In a follow up tweet, Jones can be seen donning the headband and getting ready for action.

“If they won’t give us what we want. Then we’ll take it ourselves,” the tweet reads.

The solo mission will almost certainly see players assume the role of Agent Jones as he strives to stabilise reality and fix the Zero Point issues.

Dataminers and Fortnite streamers are keeping relatively tight-lipped when it comes to leaks, although some info is likely to trickle out ahead of the new season.

One rumour is that wolves will be added to Fortnite as part of the new season.

That’s based on an image that can be seen in the background of the aforementioned Agent Jones tweet.

Fans have also spotted an unreleased Save the World shotgun, which could end up in Battle Royale.

One of the more bizarre leaks is that football superstar Neymar could make an appearance in Fortnite, most likely as part of the Battle Pass.

Could the new season’s Battle Pass also include the Peter Griffin Family Guy skin we’ve been hearing about? Only a few hours left to find out.

Operation Crimson Heist is kicking off this week as part of the new Rainbow Six Siege season update.

Flores will be a big part of Year 6, with the operator coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC and next-gen consoles at the same time.

The new attacker will available to unlock alongside a brand new ability, as well as a balanced armour and speed rating.

The main focus is the remote-control RCE-Ratero, which can charge forward and explode, destroying nearby gadgets and soft surfaces.

The Border map is also getting reworked, with Ubisoft hoping to improve gameplay and quality of life for players.

A message from Ubisoft explains: “1F Bathroom has been expanded to provide a soft wall between the 1F Bathroom and 1F Tellers bomb sites, and the 2F Archives bomb site has been extended into 2F Offices.

“In addition, an interior balcony now connects East Stairs to 2F Break Room, and a new exterior staircase leads to the 2F Archives balcony.”

The new season of Rainbow Six Siege has a release date set for Tuesday, March 16, across PS4, Xbox One, next-gen consoles and PC.

We don’t have a set release time confirmed for Operation Crimson Heist just yet, but the news is expected to be shared later today.

Previous R6 patches have gone live in the early afternoon in the UK, with Neon Dawn going live at 08:00 EDT on PC, 09:00 EDT on PlayStation, 11:00 EDT on Xbox consoles.

Downtime is also expected, with maintenance expected to take around one hour for each platform.

Expect the full schedule to be announced by Ubisoft before everything goes live on March 16.

More on the new R6 Year 6 release will be shared via official patch notes, which are expected to be shared the same day.

Rainbow Six Quarantine: Teaser trailer for new survival game

But until that happens, here’s the list of other stuff Ubisoft has promised for Rainbow Six Siege this week:

Experience two extremes with the seasonal weapon skin Thermal Antipode! With its striking design, you’ll be sure to stand out on the battlefield and turn players cold.

The weapon skin will be released at season launch and is available for purchase throughout the season. Once unlocked, it remains in your inventory indefinitely and can be applied to all available weapons.

The Operator voices for IQ and Capitão have been re-recorded with new voice actors. We are thankful to the voice actors who we worked with up to this point, but with the expansion of our Universe content, we needed to make adjustments to our talent lineup to ensure consistency.

When disabled by Mute, the necessary disabled state feedback will now appear for Attacker drones, Breach Charges, Hibana’s X-Kairos, Fuze’s Cluster Charge, Thermite’s Exothermic Charge, and Zero’s ARGUS Cameras. In addition, Claymores and Nomad’s Airjabs can now be disabled and will have the proper feedback.

For Crimson Heist, Lion and Finka’s prices go down to 10,000 Renown or 240 R6 Credits. Mozzie and Gridlock’s prices decrease to 15,000 Renown or 360 R6 Credits. Finally, Oryx and Iana’s prices drop to 20,000 Renown or 480 R6 Credits.

A new secondary weapon has been added to some Attacker loadouts. The GONNE-6 is Rainbow Six Siege’s modern-day hand cannon; it shoots an explosive projectile that detonates on impact with surfaces and destroys bulletproof gadgets. The name is derived from “handgonne,” a term that has been used throughout history to refer to hand cannons.

The Newcomer map pool will now feature 5 iconic Siege maps (Coastline, Oregon, Kafe, Bank, and Clubhouse), plus 1 seasonal map that will rotate each season. Each Newcomer map will have two possible bomb site locations, and each match will feature the same bomb sites for all rounds, allowing players to familiarize themselves with the most-played sites.

Cruise: Virgin Voyages set to launch third new ship sailing from Greece

Virgin Voyages was due to set sail on the maiden voyages of its first cruise ship, Scarlet Lady in 2020. While the pandemic may have put things on hold, it has not dampened the cruise line’s outlook.
The Richard Branson-owned cruise holiday provider has plans to launch a third cruise ship.

Named Resilient Lady, the latest ship will join the line’s two existing luxury liners – Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady.

Resilient Lady will be the second of the cruise line’s ships to venture through the Mediterranean, setting sail from Athens, Greece on two seven-night itineraries.

Though the exact details of the Resilient Lady’s interior and amenities have yet to be revealed, if they are anything like the cruise line existing ships, sailors are in for a treat.

Both ships boast an array of restaurants, shopping experiences and activities for guests to enjoy.

When it comes to dining, guests can select from a range of restaurants with menus composed by Michelin-star chefs.

“We wanted to use all aspects of the Virgin brand including our musical legacy, elements of Virgin Galactic and inspiration from Richard Branson’s Necker Island.”

Part of the experience even includes a dedicated island for cruise guests to stop off at.

The Beach Club at Bimini, which Scarlet Lady was due to include in its itinerary, promises lush greenery, waterfront cabanas, beach bars and an Instagram-ideal lagoon-style pool.

what’s more, the cruise tycoon was even due to collaborate with musicians such as DJ Mark Ronson to offer exclusive performances for visitors to the island.

Virgin Voyages has postponed all sailings for now amid the ongoing Covid pandemic and subsequent travel restrictions.

A restart date is yet to be confirmed.

Apex Legends Nintendo Switch release date, launch time, free levels, Pathfinder skin, MORE

After months of rumours and speculation, Apex Legends is finally coming to Nintendo Switch.

The popular Battle Royale game has a March 9 release date on Nintendo’s handheld/home console hybrid.

Developed by Titanfall developer Respawn, the Nintendo Switch version of Apex Legends should have a 6pm GMT launch time.

Best of all is that Apex Legends is a free-to-play game, which means anybody can download and play it for free.

One thing that isn’t 100% clear is whether or not Apex Legends requires a Nintendo Switch Online account in order to access multiplayer.

EA suggests that an “applicable platform account and platform subscription (sold separately) may be required”, while Nintendo only states that a Switch Online account is required for Cloud saves. Express Online has contacted EA and Nintendo for confirmation.

You can also pay cash to access the Season 8 Battle Pass, although you won’t have to begin at level one.

Instead, anybody who purchases the Season 8 Battle Pass on Nintendo Switch will receive 30 levels for free.

Furthermore, EA has announced plans to hold a double XP event for the two weeks after launch on Nintendo Switch.

This will make it easier to level up the Battle Pass and unlock all of the Season 8 rewards on offer.

And according to EA, these aren’t the only bonuses available to Apex Legends fans on Nintendo Switch.

“Plus, to celebrate Switch players and welcome them to the arena, we’re also launching a Legendary Pathfinder skin (called P.A.T.H.) as a free reward for players who boot up Apex Legends on Switch between the game’s launch and the end of Season 8 – Mayhem (May 4th, 2021).”

You can see the Switch exclusive Pathfinder skin below.

Elsewhere, EA has confirmed that the Switch version will support cross-platform multiplayer with other consoles, and that it will feature full parity with all other versions of the game.

This means Nintendo Switch players will be able to jump in and play the Chaos Theory Collection event from March 9 until March 23.

The Chaos Theory Collection event launches with new Takeover modes, balance changes, and bonus items to unlock.

“It ain’t a Collection Event without new unlockables. Let’s start with the freebies. As usual, the Chaos Theory Collection Event brings a rewards track with all-new earnable cosmetics, this time including legendary Kraber and EVA-8 weapon skins among the goodies,” Respawn explains.

“You can earn 1,000 points per day and challenges refresh daily. There are also stretch challenges that reward four unique badges if you complete them during the event. All of these challenges also stack with your Battle Pass, so you can complete multiple at once.”

According to Respawn, there will be 24 different cosmetic items to unlock as part of the event.

“Inspired by the warriors of the Frontier, our Legends are donning fierce new looks as they drop into the arena,” Respawn teases.

“All 24 items will be available through direct purchase (for Apex Coins or Crafting Metals) and in Event Apex Packs for the entire duration of the event.

“If you collect all 24 event items, you’ll unlock the Bangalore Heirloom set. Bangalore took this Pilot’s knife off a cold-blooded opponent. Since that day, she’s made it her own.”

There’s lots going on in Apex Legends this month, so there’s plenty of reasons to be excited about the Switch release.

Russia’s national payment system Mir to launch Apple Pay support

Mir cards, developed by Russia in response to Western sanctions, will finally become available in Apple Pay. The mobile payment platform promoted by the US tech giant Apple will start accepting the cards as early as April.

Users of Apple devices will be able to add Mir cards to their Apple Wallet, according to a letter sent by Russia’s national payment system (NSPK) to banks and lending agencies.

“We are working on bringing Apple Pay to our customers. More details will be announced later,” a representative of the National Payment Card System, which operates the Mir cards, told Russian business daily RBK.

Apple Pay was launched in Russia in 2016, but the service hasn’t been available for Russian Mir cards that could be added to Samsung Pay, as well as to Mir Pay, developed by the Mir national payment system. Mir Pay is available on Android smartphones destined for sale in Russia.

Payment systems provide users with an opportunity to tie their bank cards to smartphones and pay for goods and services via contactless payment by tapping or hovering the device on or over the POS terminal’s sensor for a couple of seconds.

In 2020, Russia was ranked second in a global rating based on the number of Apple Pay users across the nation, outpaced only by the US.

Russian banks, along with local technology giants, have started to launch their own payment services. Last summer, the biggest state-run lender Sberbank introduced the SberPay wallet for Android smartphones. The country’s biggest private bank Tinkoff Bank also announced plans to launch its own wallet. Yandex is reportedly also preparing to launch a contactless payment service.

Russia had to quickly develop its own card payment system Mir, which means “world” or “peace” in Russian, in 2014 after Washington and Brussels added several Russian banks and businesspeople to their sanction list. The step came as a part of anti-Russian penalties introduced after the country’s reunification with Crimea. Back then, the Western nations reportedly threatened to block transactions via US-based Mastercard and Visa.

In 2020, NSPK, created and operated by the central bank of Russia, reported that the share of Mir cards in the country amounted to 30 percent. At the same time, the volume of transactions using the cards totaled 24 percent.
