Come and Get Your Love: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Launches October 26

As soon as Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero” kicked off during the reveal trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we knew we were in for a treat.

Revealed today during the Square Enix Presents E3 2021 livestream, we got our first look at the newest adventure for Star-Lord, Groot, Gamora, Rocket, and Drax in an all-new and original take on the Guardians of the Galaxy from developer Eidos-Montréal.

Mixing both the look of the comics, in particular Dan Abnett’s run on “Guardians of the Galaxy (2008),” with some influences from the films themselves, there’s an air of familiar that runs through everything we’ve seen so far in this upcoming Marvel video game.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

In this single-player, narrative driven action-adventure game, you’ll play as Star-Lord, “leader” of a rag-tag group of aliens, as you embark on an epic adventure through the cosmos. In this telling of the Guardians, it has been 12 years since a massive galactic war has rocked the universe. Now, through a series of unfortunate and ill-advised events, the Guardians will have to stop a new threat to the galaxy, one of their own creation, and must confront not only this foe… but themselves. Sounds like a piece of cake!

As we’ve seen in the brief gameplay demo ahead of today’s presentation, combat encounters will play out with a mix of agile movements to dodge enemy attacks and using Star-Lord’s iconic dual-wielded blasters to dispatch enemies, along with each of the Guardians jumping in to contribute special attacks to help break enemies down. Speaking with Senior Producer Olivier Proulx, we learned more about how these combat encounters can play out.

“Each Guardian has their own identity and ability in combat,” explains Proulx. “Drax is going to be more aggro, able to stagger enemies to put them off balance. Gamora is focused on high impact blows. Groot is the protector that can crowd control and heal the group. And Rocket has his bombs and deals more area of effect damage. Then as Star-Lord, you’re mixing his agility along with utilizing his blasters.”

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

It’s when these encounters deal with a larger enemy is when a mix of skill and strategy come into play as you’ll need to figure out the best use of the Guardian’s abilities, mixing crowd control, staggers, and finisher attacks. And, during these encounters is when we’ll be able to call upon Star-Lord’s “Huddle” ability.

“In the game when you call the Huddle, Star-Lord can give a speech to calm down the Guardians or motivate them,” explains Proulx. “Then when you return to the gameplay, depending on how successful the speech was (or not), your Guardians are boosted.”

The best part about this boost is that when you return to battle, one of the more than 30 licensed music tracks kick off to add a flair of the dramatic to all the action happening on screen. In our presentation, Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” came blasting through as each of the Guardians teamed up to take down a group of alien goons.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Speaking of the music — which was a huge focal point in the recent Marvel Studios films with many hits drawn from the ‘70s — this Guardians universe Star-Lord is a lost child of the ‘80s… and he’s a bit stuck in that era. So, Eidos-Montréal worked on getting licensed ‘80s hits to play throughout the game, like Iron Maiden, New Kids on the Block, Kiss, Rick Astley, and many more, giving the team a great soundtrack to match both thematic gaming moments and through story cut-scenes.

Through this story, each Guardian will have four unlockable abilities, along with one special mega ability that each Guardian can attain through the game via a “growth moment.” Not only does this sound like it’s going to scratch our “need to collect them all” itch, it also seems to hint that there’s much more going on under the surface for this group of Guardians.

“Choice and consequence are part of the Eidos-Montréal DNA, giving you both gameplay and dialog choices as you’re going through the game,” says Senior Narrative Director Mary DeMarle. “You want to see the decisions you make have repercussions.”

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

We’re told this can manifest itself as the Guardians react to your decisions as Star-Lord. These are all very strong-willed characters that will react to your choices, and you must manage those repercussions while balancing their unpredictable natures.

“Some of the decisions you make will open and close gameplay paths to your objectives,” explains DeMarle. “There may be certain secret weapons you can get, for example. It’s still a linear story that will have the same beginning and same ending for every player, building to a strong emotional story that will pay off in true Marvel superhero style at the end. But it’s the moment-to-moment experiences of the story as you go through that will vary based on your choices in small or big ways as you go.”

Also, DeMarle revealed that they had a tremendous amount of access to the team at Marvel to help build out the characters to help deliver a journey that’s full of humor, light heartedness, and colorful moments, but also deals with deep themes of family, and faith, and loss.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

“It’s fun!” exclaims DeMarle. “You’re having this wild cosmic adventure, and one minute you’re laughing, and one minute you get an emotional hit, and then bam you’re back in the action. Marvel allowed a lot of leeway to really let us make our own mark on the Guardians of the Galaxy so it’s not like the movies, it’s not like the comics — it’s our own version.”

As for where in the universe we’ll see our Guardians travel, Eidos-Montréal is keeping a lid on that as to not spoil anything. But the eagle-eyed fan may have spotted a certain space-faring dog that seems to hint at a stopover of this iconic location. The good thing is we won’t have to wait long to discover these locations ourselves.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be available for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on October 26 this year. Also, it will also be Optimized for Xbox Series X|S and support Smart Delivery — buy the game once and play the best version on your console. Pre-orders, which are available now on the Xbox Store, will come with the Throwback Guardians Outfit Pack. For Honor Launches Year 5 Season 2: Mirage with Visions of the Kyoshin Event

For Honor’s Heathmoor has been stricken with drought in Year 5 Season 2 Mirage, which begins today on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One with the in-game Visions of the Kyoshin event. As the landscape dries out, the water and vegetation that hid the Myre’s Kyoshin Temple have withered away, leaving it unprotected. During the limited-time event, the temple will become a battleground for warriors from Chimera and Horkos, who’ve gathered to fight for resources – only to find themselves fending off mirages of Samurai with unknown capabilities.

From now through July 1, Visions of the Kyoshin puts a new spin on Dominion mode: mysterious warriors possessed by powerful entities battle for control of two points on the map. Defeating them grants a temporary buff, and reveals a glimpse of another world to the player who deals the final blow.

A free Event Pass will be available during Visions of the Kyoshin, granting progression rewards including a new ornament, battle outfit, and mood effect. New weapons can also be looted during the event. In addition to the event, Mirage launches with dried-out versions of four maps – Temple Garden, Belvedere, Highfort, and Forest – as well as a premium Battle Pass that grants gear designed to evoke Japanese mythology and the look of cracked, dry earth.

A new hero will also join For Honor‘s Samurai faction later this season, following the TU2 update.

Turkey launches new testing rules for UK arrivals despite being on red list – FCDO update

Turkey launches new testing rules for UK arrivals despite being on red list - FCDO update

Though Turkey remains on the UK’s red list for travel, the nation has made the decision to put in place new COVID-19 testing rules for UK arrivals. Direct flights from Turkey to England are currently “prohibited”, though UK arrivals can still enter the country as long as they meet the specific requirements set out by Turkish authorities.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), which provides travel advice for UK nationals travelling abroad, has updated its information for Turkey.

“From June 1, passengers arriving from UK, Iran, Egypt or Singapore will require a negative PCR test taken within the 72 hours prior to arriving in Turkey,” explains the travel authority.

“This is not required for those passengers transiting Turkey en route to another country.”

It adds: “All arrivals into Turkey, except Turkish citizens or residence permit holders, must complete an online form within 72 hours of travel.

“You will be asked to provide the residential address of where you will stay, within the borders of Turkey, and your contact information,” explains the FCDO.

“You may be asked by your airline to provide personal information regarding COVID-19 that may be shared with the Ministry of Health and third countries when necessary.

“Anyone who knowingly provides false information may be prevented from travelling.”

The FCDO further warns that regulations currently in place can change “with little warning.”

The travel authority advises Britons to monitor the FCDO’s latest travel advice for the latest updates and “stay in contact with your travel provider.”

While Turkey is allowing UK arrivals to enter in line with testing and data requirements, the UK Government maintains that those returning from Turkey must enter into 10 days of mandatory quarantine in a Government-approved facility.

The FCDO is currently advising “against all but essential travel to the whole of Turkey based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.”

Britons should not travel to red list countries unless absolutely essential.

The Gov.uk website explains: “If you have been in a country or territory on the red list in the last 10 days you will only be allowed to enter the UK if you are a British or Irish National, or you have residence rights in the UK.

“Before you travel to England you must take a COVID-19 test, book a quarantine hotel package, including two COVID-19 tests, [and] complete a passenger locator form.”

Upon arrival in England, travellers must then enter into “quarantine in a manned hotel” including taking “two COVID-19 tests” during that time.

A full review of the “traffic light” system is anticipated later this week, though there has been no official confirmation as to whether or when countries will be moved from the red list.

Nationwide Building Society launches monthly £1million prize draw – eligibility explained

Nationwide Building Society launches monthly £1million prize draw - eligibility explained
Nationwide Building Society has launched a monthly prize draw today in which “every single” Nationwide member, defined as someone aged 18 or over and with at least one Nationwide mortgage, savings or current account, will be automatically entered into the Member Prize Draw each month. This launch follows on from the Building Society’s savings-focused prize draws offered over the last year.
Nationwide detailed more than 5,000 prizes have already been given out, totalling more than £4.3million.

These draws have proven to be very popular with its members and as such, this new offering will be launched in September.

Nationwide have committed to running Member Prize Draws for a 12-month period. However, Nationwide confirmed “listening to members’ views and opinions” remains important and as such, it will continue to listen to member feedback on the draws going forward.

The Building Society broke down how the draw works and how prizes will be paid out: “There will be 8,008 prizes to be won every month, with one lucky member having the chance to win £100,000 each time, as the Society aims to once again give back as much value as it can to members, particularly at this time.

READ MORE: Moneybox and Shawbrook Bank launch new savings account – full details

Nationwide explained everyone will have an equal chance of winning a prize as each of the Society’s eligible members will get one entry per month.

All members meeting the entry criteria as of the last working day of each month will be automatically entered into the following month’s prize draw; however, members will be able to opt out if they wish by visiting the company’s website.

The draws themselves will take place on the second Tuesday of every month with the first prize draw taking place on September 14.

According to Nationwide’s data, there are around 14.2 million members eligible for the first Member Prize Draw, which would mean the odds of winning a prize are around one in 1,750.

As a result, Nationwide will be giving something back to communities across Northern Ireland with a fund of more than £300,000 set up in September to be shared amongst local charities.

Louise Prior, Nationwide’s Director of Membership Propositions, commented on the launch of the prize draw.

She said: “Our members are used to sharing in the benefits of mutuality through better service and with preferential rates, such as those offered on our Member Exclusive Fixed Rate ISA and Mutual Reward Bond. The launch of our Member Prize Draw is another example to show why it’s worthwhile being a member of Nationwide Building Society. It is about giving even more back to our members on top of the benefits we already offer.

“We believe it’s important that lots of members can benefit from the Member Prize Draw, which is why we are giving more than 8,000 members the chance to share in a prize pot of £1million each month. And what’s more, members don’t need to do anything to take part – as long as they have at least one of our mortgages, savings accounts or current accounts then they are automatically entered.

“We do understand though that there may be some members who do not wish to take part in our Member Prize Draw, which is why there will be an opt out page on our website and, by having the first prize draw in September, we are giving members plenty of time and opportunity to do so.”

US holidays: JetBlue launches low-cost UK to New York flights to rival BA and Virgin

US holidays: JetBlue launches low-cost UK to New York flights to rival BA and Virgin
Budget US airline JetBlue has unveiled plans for two new direct flight routes from the UK to New York City. The flights will depart from London Heathrow Airport and London Gatwick Airport to New York’s JFK.
“Our low fares will disrupt the pricing of the major carriers and massive joint ventures, JetBlue’s presence in this market is going to be immediately noticeable to customers, commented Robin Hayes, chief executive officer, JetBlue.

“The pandemic has opened doors to London’s two busiest airports, and we look forward to bringing customers low fares and great service at both Heathrow and Gatwick,” he continued.

“JFK-LHR, the single largest international air travel market from the US, has long suffered from outrageously high fares for far too long, especially

in premium cabins. We’re ready to change that with a price point and experience that will impress even the most discerning transatlantic flyers.

“We’ve always said that JetBlue would serve multiple London airports, and we’re pleased to have secured a path at Heathrow and for long-term growth at Gatwick, which offers speed, low costs, and convenient accessibility into Central London.”

Similarly, Stewart Wingate, chief executive officer at Gatwick Airport said: “Being able to offer our customers the low cost, high-value experience from JetBlue, with daily flights to New York starting in just a few months, is a welcome addition to the choice of airlines and destinations which Gatwick currently has.”

Though it is not yet clear whether or not the US will be added to the UK “green list” in time for summer, flights are already on sale and industry insiders remain hopeful.

Mr Holland-Kaye added: “Ministers should help more people travel safely and boost the economy by moving more low-risk destinations – including the US – to the green list as vaccination rates increase and infections decrease.”
