State of Play: When is the next Sony PS5 event? Rumoured date, time, line-up

PS5 fans could have another high-profile event to look forward to. Sony only just recently hosted a State of Play broadcast in July, which revealed more on timed PS5 exclusive Deathloop, and now the PlayStation makers could have another big event lined-up. It’s rumoured Sony will be hosting another big PS5 event this summer, and the August event could be the biggest stream so far this year.

It’s rumoured the upcoming PS5 event will reveal more on highly anticipated exclusives Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok.

So when is the next Sony PS5 event? What is the rumoured time and date for the next State of Play, and what else could get announced during the event?

Express.co.uk has rounded up everything you need to know about the rumoured August 2021 State of Play…

STATE OF PLAY – WHEN IS THE NEXT SONY PS5 EVENT? DATE AND TIME FOR NEXT STATE OF PLAY?

The next big Sony PS5 event is rumoured to be taking place in just a few weeks time.

According to two leakers, the next Sony PS5 event is scheduled for Thursday August 12.

Roberto Serrano, who correctly leaked the re-arranged date for the Sony Future of Gaming PS5 event last June, said the next Sony event is taking place on August 12 at 10pm UK time.

Earlier this month Serrano tweeted: “Next PlayStation event should be come in August, before the Gamescom 2021, most likely in the first half of next month

“I’ve the date but it’s not confirmed yet (I’ve shared it to few people)

“Just wait”.

And then in a more recent update Serrano firmed up the date and time for the next Sony event.

Serrano tweeted: “PlayStation Event. August 12, 2021. 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 11pm CEST”.

While on Reddit it was revealed leaker QuimSix, who correctly leaked the July 8 State of Play date, has also said the next PlayStation event is scheduled for August 12 too.

STATE OF PLAY – WHAT COULD BE ANNOUNCED AT NEXT SONY PS5 EVENT?

Serrano has claimed that God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West and the PSVR 2 headset could get revealed at the next Sony event.

When tweeting out the rumoured time and date for the next Sony event Serrano added: “Updates on the next God of War, Horizon Forbidden West, the next generation of PlayStation VR and more”.

Sony also seemed to hint that an event over the summer would give updates on this trio of highly anticipated projects.

Setting expectations for the July State of Play in a blog post, Sony said: “This showcase will not include updates on the next God of War, Horizon Forbidden West or the next generation of PlayStation VR. Stay tuned throughout the summer though, as we’ll have more updates soon.”

While Redditor QuimSix has claimed the enhanced and expanded edition of GTA V could feature at the August Sony event.

Timing wise, this would make sense as the next-gen version of GTA 5 is due out in the second half of this year.

While Rockstar Games unveiled the next-gen version of GTA 5 at last year’s June PS5 event, so it would stand to reason it would appear during another Sony broadcast.

Olympic track trials: Sha'Carri Richardson bows out of 200m; Felix in lineup

Allyson Felix has been added to the 200m prelims. If she qualifies for the Olympics there, she’ll have a choice to make before Tokyo.

EUGENE, Ore — The Latest on U.S. track and field Olympic trials (all times PDT):

10:30 a.m.

Sha’Carri Richardson is out. Allyson Felix is in.

Start lists for Thursday’s 200-meter preliminaries at U.S. track trials include Felix, who has qualified for the Tokyo Games in the 400, but not Richardson, the 100-meter champion who had been qualified for the longer distance but decided not to race.

If Felix were to finish in the top three at 200 meters, she’d have to choose a distance, because the 200 and 400 will overlap on the Olympic schedule.

When asked last week about her prospects for the 200, Felix said “I think I want to have fun with it.”

“As everyone knows, I love the 200. I used to call it my baby. Now that I have a baby, I can’t do it anymore,” said the 35-year-old who had a daughter, Camryn, in 2018.

Felix has nine Olympic medals. Her only individual gold came in the 200 in 2012. She also won silvers at the distance in ‘04 and ’08, and a sliver in the 400 in 2016.

With potentially record temperatures about to reach the Pacific Northwest, parts of the U.S. track and field trials are being rescheduled to try to beat the heat.

This weekend’s 20-kilometer race walks and the women’s 10,000 and men’s 5,000-meter finals have all been moved to earlier time slots. The walks will start at 7 a.m. Saturday, two hours before originally scheduled.

The women’s 10K is now set for 10 a.m. Saturday and the men’s 5K will start at 10 a.m. Sunday. Both those races had originally been scheduled for late afternoon. The forecast high for Eugene on Saturday is 100 (37 Celsius) and for Sunday it is 107 (41 C).

After a two-day break, action at Hayward Field resumes Thursday with finals in the women’s shot put and women’s steeplechase. In that race, Emma Coburn is seeking her ninth national title and third trip to the Olympics.

Also competing in preliminaries Thursday is hammer thrower Gwen Berry.

Love Island 2021 lineup rumours from former WAG to boxer's son

I’ve got a text!

The wait is almost over, as Love Island will return to our screens very soon.

After the coronavirus pandemic scrapped the last two ITV series in winter 2021 and summer 2020.

With the winter series canned for good, all the focus will be on July’s offering of flirty singletons.

Read more: Love Island rich list revealed as stars earn big from Instagram

The new contestants will enter the Spanish villa in a bid to find love with a side serving of fame (or vice versa).

Rumours are already abound as to who the producers have signed up – from a stunning fire-breather, to a boxer with a very famous relative.

The Mirror reports who are rumoured stars of Love Island 2021.

Here’s a look at the line up.

To get the Hull Live headlines to your inbox, click here.

Lucinda Strafford, 21

Lucinda Strafford, from Brighton

Former flight attention Lucinda is the ex-girlfriend of Premier League footballer Aaron Connolly, also 21, who plays for Brighton.

But with rumours swirling that he was unfaithful in lockdown, their two-year relationship came to an end when a video emerged from March, showing him breaching Covid rules and having a female guest at his home.

They split soon after and it and it has been suggested they are now talking again.

But since losing her job at British Airways, Lucinda is thought to be jetting off to Spain and into the Love Island villa – despite Aaron pleading with her not to.

A source told The Sun : “They’ve seen each other, been at each other’s houses and had dinner, but over the last couple of days she has told a few people she’s going to be on Love Island and now Aaron knows and isn’t very happy.

“They have argued about her going in.

“She wants fame and money – she’s always wanted to be a celebrity. She’s trying to become an influencer, she wants to do it for her business.”

Lucy Plunkett, 20

Dubliner Lucy could shake things up in the Love Island villa

Dubliner Lucy is reportedly set to shake things up in the villa this year if she does head in.

The 20-year-old north Dubliner is a small business owner, stylist and Instagram influencer who already has more than 12,000 followers.

She hinted that she was going into the villa while showing off her new bikinis on her Insta story earlier today before adding a selfie with the caption: “Ordering my last takeaway tonight, I’m emotional.”

A close pal of Lucy’s predicted she will cause a stir in the villa as she’s not afraid to speak her mind.

She said: “Lucy is looking for a man who is loyal and isn’t too controlling. She’s very much a free spirit who beats to her own drum.

“I expect her to be herself. She sometimes may come across as mean or a b***h due to her honest nature but she is a girl’s girl and is a sweetheart once you get to know her.

“But if someone crosses her she won’t have a problem speaking her mind. She can be problematic.”

Holly Ramsay, 21

Gordon Ramsay’s daughter Holly has bagged a lingerie brand deal before the show starts

Holly Ramsay, 21-year-old daughter of TV chef Gordon, has been hotly tipped for a place in this year’s villa.

Weeks before the show, the rumours stepped up a gear when Holly was unveiled as the face of lingerie brand Boux Avenue.

Holly is one of Gordon and wife Tana’s five children – there is also her twin Jack, sisters Megan, 23, and Tilly, 19, and youngest brother Oscar, two.

It wouldn’t be the first time ITV bosses have roped in a celebrity offspring to spice up the series, after previously signing up Dani Dyer, the daughter of EastEnders star Danny, and Belle Hassan – the daughter of actor Tamer.

Sources say producers of the dating show have been trying to get Holly on board for months.

Jay Munro, 24

Model Jay Munro (left) has been rumoured for the show for years and counts some past stars among his pals

As an amateur footballer turned model Jay certainly has the looks and competitive edge of a classic Love Islander.

He’s also already got a huge social media following after picking up 193,000 followers on Instagram with snaps of his endless stream of photoshoots and holidays abroad, but could Jay prove as popular with castmates in the villa?

He does have connections with a number of former contestants and counts Tommy Fury, Jack Fowler and Josh Denzel among his friends.

This year is not the first time Jay’s name has been linked to the ITV2 series, but insiders say this could finally be his time to shine.

Zack Cugg, 21

Leeds student Zack Chugg says he’s been approached by casting agents

Zach, who is a dentist student at Leeds University, has been so bold as to reveal to the Yorkshire Evening Post that he was directly approached to appear on this year’s Love Island.

He claims he was contacted by an ITV agent who was ‘fascinated’ by his posts.

Zach told the paper: “I released a post about men’s skincare routines and then got a direct message on Instagram from an ITV casting agent.

“I think they are really fascinated by what I do and I don’t know if they’ve met someone who does the sort of thing that I do yet,” he added.

Aimee-Rose Francis, 29

Already Aimee-Rose has had a taste for influencer life with an incredible haul of 84,000 followers

She’s apparently the latest to pack up her life and focus on looking for love this summer.

Already Aimee-Rose has had a taste for influencer life with an incredible haul of 84,000 followers.

So naturally Love Island would be a great launch pad into the reality TV world for the social media guru.

Plenty of modelling deals have come her way so far, before she has even had her brush with fame.

The beauty has modelled for Pretty Little Thing and Boohoo, two brands which love to cherry pick the Love Islanders for their branding after the show.

Originally from London’s posh Chelsea, Aimee-Rose has made a success of her own jewellery company which she created.

It’s believed she’s top of the list for the summer series this year.

Toluwa Adepeju, 25

Toluwa Adepeju, 25, is said to have signed up for Love Island 2021

Toluwa Adepeju, 25, was among the medical staff battling the Covid-19 pandemic on the frontline in hospital over the last year.

However, a new report suggests he’s going to be taking a much-needed break to spend the summer looking for love in the villa as part of the 2021 show.

A source told The Sun : “He’s led from the very front – in hospital and online, educating people of the risks and the need to get vaccinated.

“He is a perfect pick. He’s modest, down to earth and loves what he does.”

Toluwa has been documenting the tough time on the NHS frontline on his Instagram page, revealing he’s been working 68-hour seven-day weeks.

He’s also been outspoken about the country’s vaccination program and urged his followers to get their jabs.

Harley Benn, 24

Harley is a professional boxer like his famous dad

Harley Benn, 24, son of professional boxer Nigel Benn, is rumoured to be heading into the Love Island villa in Majorca this summer.

Harley, also a boxer, was conceived when Nigel, 57, had an affair with his mother Lisa Andrews, while his second wife Carolyne was pregnant.

It’s reported Nigel only accepted he was Harley’s dad after a paternity test proved it, and the two fought publicly on Twitter but have reportedly buried the hatchet.

Despite being a middleweight champion, Harley had a softer side, and he holds one-to-one sessions with troubled youngsters where they learn respect and how to manage anger issues – while keeping healthy too.

A source told The Sun : “Harley’s already got a huge following and gets loads of attention from the girls.

“He’s had video meetings with the casting team and everyone is very excited at the prospect of having him on the show.”

Alexis Bailey, 21

Alexis Bailey is a fire performer rumoured to be starring on this year’s Love Island

Fire-eating beauty queen Alexis Bailey is reported to be one of the singletons heading into the 2021 Love Island villa.

The multi-talented aerial dancer is said to be fresh from a long-term relationship and looking for a new romance.

A source told The Sun : ‘She loves sex and is always talking about it. She’s very open about it but is incredibly likeable and loves to party.

‘There are no limits as far as she is concerned and she very much wears her heart on her sleeve. It’s fair to say she will bring some heat to the villa.’

James Price, 23

Bosses have reportedly signed James Price for this summer’s Love Island series

Love Island bosses have reportedly signed up Chelsea party boy James Price for it’s 2021 series.

MailOnline reports that the recruitment consultant, 23, has history with former Love Islander Lucie Donlan.

The pair struck up a romance in 2018 – the summer before she found fame on the show.

It’s reported that James – who has his eye on blondes – is hoping to bring Worcestershire Sauce to the villa this summer.

Former Love Islander Lucie Donlan has history with James

A source told the publication: “He’s cheeky, fun and handsome – and will be a sure-fire hit with the female contestants, while he’s also on the lookout for his dream girl.

“Lucie Donlan is his type on paper. They grew close in Newquay the summer before she went on the show but their flirtation didn’t grow into a relationship.

“While James is from Worcester, his group of friends reside in Fulham and he spent a lot of time before the pandemic partying in Chelsea.”

While James is yet to find love, his ex Lucie is now in a long-term relationship with Luke Mabbott, who starred on the winter series of Love Island last year.

A spokesman for ITV2 told The Mirror: “No decisions have been made on the line up for this year’s Love Island.”

Lollapalooza unveils lineup after festival announces return, vaccine requirement

CHICAGO — For weeks, Chicago officials had been dancing around the question of whether Lollapalooza was going to happen. Now, the festival’s lineup has been released, and tickets are on sale. The festival will take place July 29 to August 1 in the city’s Grant Park.

The lineup, revealed at 10 a.m., includes Foo Fighters, Post Malone, Miley Cyrus, Tyler the Creator, DaBaby, Journey, Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch and more.
Tickets went on sale at noon at Lollapalooza.com.”I’m so excited to finally have some normality back, especially it being an outdoor fest, so it will be so much fun,” Rachel Fehrige said. “We can have socially distanced space. It will be a great time.”

WATCH | Dave Grohl, Perry Farrell help Chicago mayor announce Lollapalooza’s return

In accordance with current local public health guidance, full COVID-19 vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results will be required to attend Lollapalooza 2021.For patrons who are not fully vaccinated, a negative COVID-19 test result must be obtained within 24 hours of attending Lollapalooza each day.

“To attend Lollapalooza, you either will need to be fully vaccinated or you will need to provide a negative test for every day that you are planning to attend,” Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said. “So the easiest way by far if you want to attend Lollapalooza is to get vaccinated now.”RELATED: Is a vaccination requirement for Lollapalooza legal?

The festival will be at full capacity. In 2019, it drew 400,000 people to the park over four days.

“We’ve made tremendous progress in containing the spread of COVID-19, with all of our leading metrics stable or on the decline,” Dr. Arwady said. “This is a reason to celebrate and why we’re able to make this announcement today. To ensure we celebrate safely this summer I encourage everyone to continue to be safe and smart; if you’re sick, stay home; wash your hands frequently; wear a mask if you’re traveling or using public transit; and most importantly get vaccinated if you haven’t already.”

WATCH | Chicago city officials discuss Lollapalooza plans

How fans will prove they’ve been vaccinated is still in the works, but it could involve mobile apps, or showing your vaccination card. Details on the festival entry process will be available in early July, organizers said.
The city hopes it encourages more people to get vaccinated. So far, only 38% of Chicago residents have gotten their shots.WATCH | Business owners celebrate Lollapalooza’s return

The tens of thousands of people flooding the city’s center this summer means an influx of long-lost foot traffic for struggling shops and restaurants.”Huge, huge, like I said, I’m coming in, I’m in for a couple days for business, and just waiting for it to open up,” Marchand Boyd said. “And ‘ll be looking forward to coming back for more events.”

  • Super Mario Bros. 3 — 1:25:00

If you’re thinking, “ugh, a list? Reading? No thanks,” and you just want some recommendations, we got you!

Super Mario Odyssey is always a fantastic watch, as is Pikmin 3 and the blindfolded Super Mario 64 run, and it’s traditional to watch the Super Metroid run and vote on whether or not to save the animals. Zelda runs are always great watches, and this year features an old speedrun classic, Majora’s Mask, as well as Breath of the Wild, Oracle of Ages, and, for some reason, Link: The Faces of Evil, one of the terrible CD-i games.

The Faces of Evil is known for being the game that brought us Morshu
The Faces of Evil is known for being the game that brought us Morshu

If you’re interested in literally inhuman speedrunning, the Sonic Heroes run this year will be done by TASBot, a “tool-assisted” robot that simulates the perfect speedrun, made possible by being a robot capable of actual perfection.

We’re also quite intrigued by the six hour speedrun of Golden Sun: The Lost Age, the longest run by far on the schedule (the second-longest being a Pokémon Black vs White race which will take around three and a half hours).

Who is this? This isn't a Mario! Get out of here!
Who is this? This isn’t a Mario! Get out of here!

(Personally, I’m excited about Dragon Age: Inquisition, which is going to kick off the SGDQ speedruns this year, but it’s not on any Nintendo platforms, so- oh no!!! Please, editors, do not arrest me! I am sorry! I promise to only write about Nintendo games from now on, do not send me to video game prison, noooooooooo)

We apologise for the tragic arrest of the author of this piece. Please tell us which speedrun you’ll be looking forward to in the comments!

Sony rivals Samsung with a massive update to its 4K TV lineup – here's what's new

The new large-screen Sony TVs going on sale include the 75” and 85” X85J 4K HDR LED, 75” BRAVIA XR X90J Full Array LED and 83” BRAVIA XR MASTER Series A90J 4K HDR OLED TVs.

Some of these televisions, such as the A90J, include a new Cognitive Processor XR tucked behind the screen which the Japanese tech firm reckons will allow its tellies to replicate the way humans see and hear.

That basically means this chip can keep an eye on exactly what’s going on on the screen and adjust the picture accordingly for a more lifelike image.

A lot of televisions from other manufacturers have similar technology, but Sony says that whilst most TVs can detect and analyse certain elements – such as colour and contrast individually – the Cognitive Processor XR can monitor an array of elements all at once, just like our brains.

This includes the excellent Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, as well as SOMA, GoNNER and Darksiders 2.

According to NVIDIA, GeForce NOW update 2.0.29 includes account linking for Epic Games Store and session pre-loading.

Currently being trialled in the PC version of Fortnite, the new update should cut the time it takes members to go from the GeForce NOW app to the game by 50%.

“The app update also improves in-app search results and brings the GeForce NOW in-game overlay to Chrome browser,” NVIDIA explains.

“It’s all a part of our commitment to make GeForce NOW the best cloud gaming experience.”

Elsewhere, it was revealed that Iron Harvest and 4A Games’ Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition will be supported on GeForce NOW at launch.

As for the latest GFN Thursday update, R-Type Final 2 is the game I’m most looking forward to playing.

The new R-Type release gives the classic arcade shmup a makeover, complete with new and improved visuals, new weapons and more.

“For the first time in nearly two decades, you can experience R-Type Final 2, now on PC!

“Feel the rush of mowing down hordes of Bydo with your fleet of R-Type fighters equipped with an arsenal of new and classic wave cannons, force units, bit devices, and devastating delta weapons.

“The Bydo threat is always evolving, as new enemies spawn from the wreckage of fallen foes, and stages are corrupted and altered by the sentient Bydo corruption.

“R-Type Final 2 unites the explosive action of the original games with modernized visuals and gameplay features, making this a must-have title for new and old shoot-’em-up fans alike.”

PS Plus May 2021 free PS5 and PS4 games: When will PlayStation Plus line-up be revealed

PlayStation Plus subscribers are waiting for Sony to reveal the May 2021 free PS5 and PS4 games.

This year’s PS Plus free games have been exceptional, featuring the likes of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Destruction All-Stars and Control Ultimate Edition.

The current line-up is equally as impressive, consisting of Days Gone, Zombie Army 4 and brand new PS5 game Oddworld Soulstorm.

If you haven’t already downloaded the April 2021 free games, then the good news is that you still have plenty of time.

The May 2021 PlayStation Plus line-up won’t be announced until 4.30pm on April 28. The games will be available to download less than a week later on May 4.

Unless the new games leak ahead of time, it’s going to be a long wait until we find out whether Sony can maintain its PS Plus hot streak.

The most interesting game of the current line-up us undoubtedly Oddworld Soulstorm, which is a direct sequel to Oddworld New ‘n’ Tasty.

“Witness Abe’s horrifying conflict with a terrifying new machination in this fresh narrative adventure,” reads the official description.

“Oddworld Soulstorm represents a big visual and cinematic leap. With intelligent new mechanics and twisted new devices which enable highly explosive deviousness. This is a dark parable that tells an epic tale of a volatile society pushed to its limits.”

Days Gone is another high-profile PlayStation release, featuring a huge open world and some excellent zombie set-pieces.

“Ride into a desperate dog-eat-dog world ravaged by a deadly pandemic as drifter and bounty hunter, Deacon St. John.

“Risk the threats of the broken road on the back of your trusty drifter bike as you face swarms of mindless feral Freakers – and equally terrifying humans.

“Unpredictable weather and different times of day and night can cause incredible danger and shocking surprises… and everything wants you dead.”

Finally, Zombie Army 4 is an entertaining co-op shooter developed by UK studio Rebellion.

“Hitler’s hordes are back for more in this spine-chilling shooter from the makers of Sniper Elite 4! Abominable occult enemies, epic weapons and a harrowing new campaign for 1-4 players await in 1940s Europe, as you fight to save humankind from undead Armageddon!”
