Meghan Markle and Harry show Archie as 'more independent' in 'puzzling' new birthday snap

The snap of Archie was posted on the website of Archewell, the charity founded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The sepia tone photograph shows the back of Archie’s head as he stands in a large garden holding a bunch of balloons.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, body language expert Judi James suggested the picture has a traditional feel.

She said: “The choice of sepia tone for Archie’s second birthday photo is a puzzling one.

“Meghan and Harry have always been keen on monochrome photos and, although these have always had a nod towards the days before colour printing, they are also recognised as the cool, fashionable and modern option.

“Sepia is still very much associated with the Victorian era though, making this look more like a historic photo rather than a current one.”

The traditional tones seem to give a nod to the Christmas card released by the Sussexes last year, which showed a photograph of the family turned into a painting.

The expert continued: “This look, along with the pose, with its very traditional echoes of a small boy with balloons, seems to be in keeping with Meghan and Harry’s last Xmas card, which they styled to look like an illustration from an Enid Blyton book.

“It suggests both parents are keen on nostalgia and encouraging the kind of idyllic childhood that they might have read about in books when they were children themselves.”

Although the picture echoes the style of some snaps previously shared by the family, it is notably different from the last time the royals gave a glimpse of their son.

“Here though we appear to be shown a small boy becoming more independent, facing away and absorbed in the balloons rather than the camera or his parents.

“We also see Archie from back view. This is a theme used by Meghan and Harry for their iconic wedding photo when they stood with their backs to the camera, gazing in awe at the fireworks.

“Now we see Archie also turned away, gazing in awe at some huge balloons.”

As well as sharing the picture, Meghan and Prince Harry asked people to share donations.

A statement on the Archewell foundation website said: “We will not be able to truly recover until everyone, everywhere, has equal access to the vaccine.

“And with that intention, we are inviting you to contribute whatever you can – if you have the means to do so – to bring vaccines to families in the world’s most vulnerable places.

“For a donation of just five dollars, you can cover the cost of a dose for someone in need. And because we were able to secure matching support from a number of organizations, that $ 5 you give will automatically turn into 20 dollars – covering the cost of four doses.”

The royal line of succession – who outranks who?

The line of succession to the British throne dictates the order in which each member of the Royal Family would ascend to the throne.

It is also seen as a ranking of importance with the head of the line, the Queen, taking the place of ruler.

Older children come before younger children. Traditionally boys came before girls, but this law was changed on 26 March 2015 before the birth of Prince William’s first child.

Incredibly, Catholics are still excluded from the line of succession, as are children born outside of wedlock.

The royals, who usually stick to a strict protocol when appearing in public, often arrive at events in ascending order of importance, with the most important royal arriving last.

Prince Charles, 72, is currently first-in-line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, 38, his oldest son.

Then comes Prince William’s children, George, seven, Charlotte, five, and Louis, two, and they are followed by Prince Harry, 36. Prince Harry is succeeded by his son Archie Harrison, born in May 2019.

Alison Hammond fires back at backlash aimed at Meghan Markle over Archie birthday photo

This Morning presenter Alison Hammond, 46, has defended Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, after the royal couple left some fans “upset” by not showing their son Archie’s face in a new photo of the tot celebrating his second birthday. The snap, shared by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex yesterday, showed Archie with his back facing the camera while holding a bunch of balloons.
Although many fans were delighted to see the sweet picture, others were disappointed that it didn’t show the little one’s face.

One person tweeted: “Archie’s top secret face, that’s ridiculous.”

Another added: “Wish I could see his beautiful face!”

A third fumed: “That could be any kid! Why bother if they can’t release a good photo, don’t release a photo. Poor kid.”

Alison addressed the backlash aimed at Meghan and Harry during today’s episode with This Morning while chatting with her co-host Dermot O’Leary and guests Nick Ferrari and Gyles Brandreth.

She told viewers: “Meghan and Harry have posted a picture of Archie on his second birthday, which is lovely.

“Here it is. But lots of fans are a little bit upset with the fact that you can’t see his face.”

Hitting back at those who were complaining, Alison said: “We’ve seen his face before!”

“I think each of them has perhaps done a few missteps in recent months. I would urge everybody, can we just press pause.

“Can we just let them try and live a little? If they do another interview then, ok, maybe we sharpen our pencils again.

“But can we just let them get on with their life and the little chap, Meghan have a baby… and just afford them a bit of time and space to see where they go.”

Alongside the snap of Archie, Meghan and Harry asked people to donate towards the global Covid vaccine rollout in honour of his second birthday.

In a statement on the couple’s Archewell foundation website, they said they were “deeply touched” by the “warmth and support” shown by fans on the occasion.

Donations will go to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, which is coordinating Covax, a global programme to ensure the fair distribution of Covid jabs.

It will also be donated to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and the World Health Organisation.

‘Staggering hypocrisy!’ Piers Morgan fumes at Meghan Markle for book about father-son bond

Piers Morgan, 56, has unleashed a furious tirade about Meghan Markle’s new book, entitled The Bench, which is based on the special bond between fathers and sons. The star, who quit Good Morning Britain in March after sparking backlash from viewers due to his scathing comments about the Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, claimed the project “would make the current shortlist for the title of World’s Most Ludicrously Inappropriate Book”.
Responding to Meghan’s announcement that her debut children’s book will follow “the warmth, joy and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life”, Piers fumed in his latest column for MailOnline: “Sorry, WHAT?

“Notwithstanding Ms Markle’s seemingly unlimited thirst for committing attention-seeking acts of gargantuan hypocrisy, this seemed beyond parody. But it was real.”

Piers then admitted he had “laughed out loud” while reading the description of the book.

He added: “I wonder how much these touching sentiments will resonate with her own family, or her husband’s?

“Lest we forget, Ms Markle has ruthlessly disowned her father Thomas and refuses to have anything to do with him despite the fact they now live just 70 miles from each other.”

Piers went on to slam Meghan’s husband Prince Harry, as he “trashed his father Prince Charles” for cutting him off financially while speaking alongside his wife to Oprah.

The outspoken journalist continued: “I don’t wish to rain on the comically sycophantic parade – but I suspect this book will become an instant historical classic for all the wrong reasons.

“The whole notion of Meghan Markle dishing out advice to anyone about the relationship between fathers and children is absolutely ridiculous given the appalling relationships she and her husband have with their own fathers.

“And if she really cared about father-child relationships, she would never have trashed Harry’s family on global TV in the horrible way that she did, causing yet more damage, possibly irreparably, to Harry’s relationship with his father.”

Piers has never held back when unleashing his opinions on Meghan’s actions since she and Harry made the decision to leave their lives as senior members of the Royal Family behind for a life in America.

The star was criticised for disbelieving the Duchess of Sussex when she opened up about experiencing suicidal thoughts after joining the Royal Family.

Media regulator Ofcom then confirmed it would be launching an investigation after over 40,000 complaints were made.

The huge figure has since grown to over 57,000, meaning it has become the most complained about television moment in Ofcom history.

Just before he announced his departure, Piers stormed off the GMB set live on the show after an argument about his dismissal of Meghan’s comments with his co-star Alex Beresford.

During her explosive interview, Meghan spoke candidly to Oprah on her time as a member of the Royal Family while living in the UK with Harry and their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The Duchess of Sussex described the Queen as being “really welcoming” in one part, however, she also discussed how she felt upset after Archie was not made a prince.

She went on to claim that there were multiple conversations and concerns about “how dark” her son’s skin colour would be before he was born.

The host asked who made such a statement. However, Meghan would not reveal who it was, saying it would be “very damaging” to their reputation.

David Beckham 'mortified' after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle row 'got awkward'

This post originally appeared on Daily Express :: Celebrity News Feed

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have endured a chaotic last year-and-a-half since leaving royal duties for a new life in the US. Suspicions of tension between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family, especially Prince William and Kate, were seemingly confirmed after their interview with Oprah Winfrey last month. Meghan alleged there was concern from a member of the Royal Family about her baby Archie’s skin tone before he was born.

Harry backed up the claim, but both refused to disclose any more detail about the conversation.

Meghan also said she “didn’t want to be alive anymore” and alleged that the “institution” said she could not get help.

Following the interview, a short statement issued on behalf of the Queen expressed sadness to hear of the Sussexes’ woes and added that Meghan, Harry and Archie are “much-loved family members”.

It appears, however, that there was also a brief misunderstanding between Meghan and Victoria Beckham, leading to a “awkward” exchange between Harry and David Beckham.

Meghan feared Victoria Beckham was leaking stories about her to the press, a source close to the Duchess told The Sun.

Meghan had reportedly grown tired of leaked stories making the press – and became concerned over her friendship with the former Spice Girls star.

Prince Harry was reported to have tackled the speculation “head-on” – opting to speak to ex-England football captain David.

The source said in January 2020: “Harry was very polite, but obviously it was a pretty awkward exchange and David was mortified.

“Inexplicably, [Meghan] feared Victoria was behind it — I mean, the idea that Victoria Beckham would be personally ringing journalists to give them a scoop is ridiculous — and spoke to Harry about it.

In a video, he said: “We love him. But I’m proud to see him growing up as an individual and being that person that every father wants to be.

“Every father wants to be loving to their children and that’s what I see with him.”

Beckham, who attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2018, continued to explain that he and the Duke hadn’t spoken about his decision to move abroad.

He added: “I haven’t spoken to Harry about him moving. We speak as friends and that’s the most important thing for me.

“I think he’s enjoying being a young father for the first time and that’s what we always spoke about.

“When you are a parent, it changes everything for you. He always needs to be happy.”

Russell Brand bragged of kissing Meghan Markle before she met Prince Harry: 'Snogged her!'

This post originally appeared on Daily Express :: Celebrity News Feed

The Sussexes have many friends in high places since moving to the US to start a new life away from royal duties. Meghan’s career in acting saw her star in films and TV series with other big showbiz names, including a not so well-known appearance with Russell Brand. The comedian and actor starred in ‘Get Him to the Greek’, released in 2010. In the film, Meghan plays a partygoer called Tatiana – and Brand talked about a scene in which the two stars kissed.

He said during an episode of Loose Women: “She was in a film that I was in — I had done a film, Get Him to the Greek, it was called, a bloody good film — Meghan Markle, didn’t know at the time because she wasn’t married to a royal person, so I wasn’t paying attention.

“Well I think in it, I don’t remember the film that much… but I think I planted one on her, I think, in the scene.

“But that was scripted in the scene. I only know this because I think I saw a clip of it somewhere.”

Discussing the moment again in 2018, just two days before Harry and Meghan’s wedding, Brand joked about stopping their marriage.

He said: “Meghan Markle, there we go. ‘If anyone has any reason…’.

‘“Yeah! Russell Brand snogged her in a film!’ Never mind her bloody dad selling photos!”

Brand was referring to reports that Meghan’s father had collaborated with the paparazzi to create “staged” photos before their nuptials in Windsor.

Harry and Meghan have endured a chaotic last year-and-a-half since leaving royal duties for a new life in the US.

Suspicions of tension between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family, especially Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, were seemingly confirmed after their interview with Oprah Winfrey last month.

The pair married 10 years ago today, and Kate was able to receive the ring as Harry offered his brother the chance to use it instead.

Paul Burrell has confirmed the ring belonged to Harry following the death of Princess Diana in 1997.

He said: “Harry said to him: ‘Wouldn’t it be fitting if she had mummy’s ring?’.

“Then one day that ring will be sat on the throne of England. Harry gave up his precious treasure.

“His one thing he kept from his mother, he gave to his brother. That’s selfless, kind and exactly who Diana was.”

Meghan Markle could be booed by public

ROYAL courtiers fear Meghan Markle “could be booed” by the public if she returns to the UK following a backlash to her bombshell Oprah interview, it is claimed.

A royal commentator said there is “genuine concern” that the Duchess of Sussex could face a difficult reception from members of the public should she attend an event in Britain in future.

It is currently “unclear” whether Meghan will join Prince Harry for the unveiling of a Princess Diana statue at Kensington Palace in July, according to MailOnline.

Courtiers hope that the event will force feuding brothers William and Harry into “a positive dialogue” as they prepare for their late mum’s 60th birthday.

Should Meghan attend, it would mark her first trip to the UK since Megxit and her interview with Oprah Winfrey – and it is feared she could face a backlash on her return.

MailOnline write: “There are genuine concerns that she could be booed at an event attended by members of the public given her current unpopularity in the UK as a result of the Oprah interview.”

Prince Harry returned to the UK for the first time in months to attend his grandfather Philip’s funeral earlier this month.

Meghan, who is heavily pregnant with her second child, did not attend on her doctor’s advice.

During the funeral procession for the Duke of Edinburgh at Windsor Castle, Harry walked apart from William in a sign of the divide between the brothers.

But they were pictured speaking together after the service – sparking hopes that their relationship could be mended.

The claims come after a YouGov poll suggested that Meghan and Harry’s popularity remains lower than other Royals in the wake of last month’s Oprah.

Two fifths of Brits like Harry, while half (49 per cent) dislike him.

And three in ten people (29 per cent) like Meghan while three in five (61 per cent) dislike her.

During the Oprah interview, Meghan claimed an unnamed royal had raised “concerns” about the skin colour of her and Harry’s children and alleged the Palace had denied her mental health support.

The Queen has since said the claims raised, including those regarding concerns over the colour of Archie’s skin would be investigated and “addressed privately”.

He said to MPs during a Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee meeting that the deal was different to their work with musicians.

Horacio said: “Like a lot of our services, there is a market for certain talent because they command a certain amount of consumption.

“We don’t get to negotiate directly with artists the way we negotiate with podcasters or people who create podcasts so the structure of that market is very different.

“The product is valued based on how many users it can attract, how many streams it will attract, which in turn determines how many advertisers are willing to advertise on the podcast which determines the economic opportunity, there’s a market that’s emerging for talent in that regard.”

Meghan Markle: How She Paid Tribute To Prince Philip Despite Not Being Able To Attend Funeral

Meghan Markle watched Prince Philip’s funeral from home in California after not being cleared to travel during her current pregnancy, but she made sure to send a gift to the royal family ahead of the service.

Meghan Markle, 39, was unfortunately unable to attend Prince Philip‘s funeral at Windsor Castle on Apr. 17 but she made sure to let Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and the rest of the royal family know she was thinking of him at this time with a special gift. The Duchess of Sussex, who watched the funeral from her home in Santa Barbara, CA after her doctor advised her not to travel at the current stage of her second pregnancy, sent over a wreath and a handwritten note, Vanity Fair reported. The wreath, which was full of a variety of locally sourced flowers, was laid for the Duke of Edinburgh during his ceremony on Saturday.

The outlet also reported that Meghan’s husband Prince Harry, 36, who flew to the UK earlier this week after his grandfather died at the age of 99 on Apr. 9, also helped pick out the thoughtful wreath and it was full of special meaning. It was designed by Willow Crossley, who worked with the couple on the flower arrangements for their wedding in 2018 as well as for their son Archie‘s christening and the launch of the Hubb Community cookbook. They also specifically requested for it to include Acanthus mollis (Bear’s breeches), the national flower of Greece, to represent Prince Philip’s heritage, and eryngium (sea holly), to represent the Royal Marines.

The wreath also featured campanula, which represents gratitude and everlasting love, lavender for devotion, rosemary for remembrance, and roses in honor Prince Philip’s birth month, June. The card that came with the wreath was handwritten by Meghan.

The sweet gift comes in the midst of Harry’s first visit back to England since he and Meghan left the country after stepping down from their royal duties. It also comes just over a month after their shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey about their experience and struggles with royal life aired. The Duke of Sussex was one of only 30 people who attended Prince Philip’s funeral due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was seen walking behind the coffin of the late royal along with his brother Prince William, 38.

Meghan Markle Before Being A Royal: See Pics From Her TV Start, To Royal Wedding & Beyond

Meghan Markle has gone through a total transformation since marrying Prince Harry, becoming a member of the Royal Family, and more. See photos of the Duchess of Sussex through the years.

Meghan Markle‘s life has gone through a total change since marrying Prince Harry in May 2018. The Suits alum, 39, quickly made the transition from the bright lights of Hollywood to the grandeur and tradition of the British Royal Family in the mid-2010s. Now, we’re taking a look back at Meghan’s start in the TV and film industry, to her life with her husband and family, and more.

After years of taking on small appearances in shows like Deal or No Deal, Meghan began making a name for herself in film and TV. The Northwestern graduate appeared in films like Remember Me and Horrible Bosses before earning her big break 2011. Meghan starred as Rachel Zane on the USA TV series Suits, appearing in more than 100 episodes of the legal drama.

But while Meghan was working on the series, she also balanced her passion for service and advocacy. As it would happen, her future husband shared a love for those causes, as well. Meghan started dating Prince Harry in June 2016, and the two took their romance public by September 2017 when they attended the Invictus Games together, a philanthropic endeavor incredibly close to Prince Harry’s heart. By November of that year, the couple announced their engagement and wed at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018.
The couple’s fairytale, however, was not entirely what it seemed. During their March 7, 2021, interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry and Meghan shared the difficult experience they had as senior members of the Royal Family. As such, they made the decision to take a step back from their roles in January 2020. By this point, the couple had welcomed their first child, son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, born in May 2019.

Since that time, Meghan has made it clear that she wants to dedicate her time to serving global communities. The royal couple have made a deal with Netflix and Spotify to produce engaging and enriching programs, and their family life is about to head into a new chapter. Paul O'Grady warned Meghan Markle against 'really riling' Queen with Americanisms

Paul O’Grady announces a new For the Love of Dogs season

The beloved comedian returns to screens tonight in his ITV animal welfare show Paul O’Grady: For The Love Of Dogs. The 65-year-old has been a fixture of British TV for nearly 30 years and hosted shows including Blankety Blank, Blind Date and Top Of The Pops. O’Grady is known to be close with the Royal Family and on one occasion gave some advice to Meghan.
The comedy legend, who famously brought his drag character Lily Savage to TV audiences, previously praised Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

He felt she showed “a lot of guts” to take such a prominent part in royal life since her relationship with Prince Charles was taken public in the late Nineties.

O’Grady argued that she “could have sat there watching daytime telly” rather than carrying out duties on behalf of the Firm.

Last year, Savoy Stuart reported that Camilla carried out 81 engagements last year – despite restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

O’Grady admitted he was “very fond” of Charles’ wife and first met her when he played the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 2002.

In a 2017 Mirror article, he recalled one performance when the “car broke down” and he was instructed to race up to the green room to “Say hello”.

Despite being dressed as the character “with the nose and the ears and the chin” on, he remembered Camilla being “so easy to talk to”.

They both also share an interest in animal welfare, which he claimed she was “passionate about” and he “really respected” for it.

In a column after Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding in 2018, he gave some advice to the former Suits actress.

O’Grady believed he could help the US star find common ground with the Queen and also listed a few things she should avoid.

In the TV Times, he claimed Her Majesty was “easy to get on with” and noted that she “likes a good laugh”.

However, the star said she was a “straight-talking” person and so above all things, Meghan had to “be totally honest with her”.

O’Grady explained that she should “try to avoid too many Americanisms” and that non-UK words could cause a divide between them.

He wrote: “Always remember to say ‘lavatory’, not ‘bathroom’, otherwise you will really rile her!”

Paul O’Grady admitted he was a big fan of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Her Majesty (Image: GETTY)

Similarly to Camilla, he believed she should develop an interest in animals – especially horses.

Meghan had already adopted her rescue dog Bogart by that point after being advised it was a good idea by US stars Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey.

O’Grady felt she should “become a horsewoman” if she could because “that family loves horses”.

He explained that “land and animals” was “what the Queen likes talking about” and little else.

Paul O’Grady: I’m worried I’ll wake up and see an ALIEN

Despite giving a list of dos and don’ts, O’Grady ultimately concluded that she did not “need to do anything” to win over the royals.

He described Meghan and Harry as “a perfect couple” with a “lovely marriage” ahead of them.

One thing he did warn though was not to “start letting outside influences affect” them.

Whether or not Meghan and Harry took heed of the advice is up for debate.

Last year, the Sussexes waged war on the media by banning UK tabloid newspapers from their lives.

They also requested for their privacy to be respected before moving to the US.

Last month, some branded their demand for less publicity and to stay out of the limelight hypocritical due to remaining in the public eye.

It was argued after their interview with Oprah, who BBC veteran John Humphrys called “the most famous TV celebrity on the planet” in a Daily Mail column.

Their tell-all was watched by more than 49.1 million people worldwide, according to CBS, who broadcasted the show.

Meghan and Harry have also brokered deals with Netflix and Spotify, which could be worth as much as £168million collectively.

It’s believed this is part of their bid to become financially independent and break away from the royal purse strings.

Paul O’Grady: For The Love Of Dogs airs at 8pm tonight on ITV.
