Terrifying moment bat-wielding thugs attack players at charity cricket match – VIDEO

Thugs could be seen swinging their cricket bats at rival players. Shocking footage of the incident shows a group of players engaged in an animated discussion close to the edge of the pitch, before a topless thug sprints towards them swinging willow. Two more hooligans – one still wearing his pads – are then seen exchanging blows, as the screams of onlookers ring out across the ground.

The violence erupted at the end of a game at Mote Park Cricket Club in Maidstone on Sunday at a chair fundraiser.

Shehzad Akram, who helped with the running of the event, said: “We tried our best for charity and these lunatics just spoiled it.

“At the end of the day, we were having the final match and it was the last couple of overs when some guys came on the pitch and attacked a few of the players.

“I don’t know what the main reason was behind it, but there were some troublemakers in the ground.

“They started fighting with their bats and hitting people.

“I was far away from it, but by the time I got near, they were still fighting and swearing at each other.”

Mr Akram says police arrived at the ground after the fight broke out at about 7pm.

Paramedics were also called to tend to those who sustained injuries.

On social media on Monday, The Mote Cricket Club said: “The Mote CC would like to distance ourselves from any events that took place at our club yesterday.

“We do not oversee and are not responsible for behaviour of any of those who commercially rent our ground.

“We do not condone these events, and are saddened and disappointed in the organisers and those involved with the incident.”

A Kent Police spokesman told KentOnline: “We were called at around 6.50pm on Sunday regarding a disturbance at a sportsground in Willow Way, Maidstone.

“Officers attended and spoke to those who were present at the scene.

“There have been no arrests at this stage and enquiries are continuing into the incident.”

England boss Gareth Southgate must do two things before Italy match – Jose Mourinho

“It was a big decision for England to stick with Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice — a very strong statement which said, ‘We are not here to entertain, we are not here to be an amazing football team’.

“It’s a big lesson for some people who think the most important thing in football is to be beautiful. In the end, we realise what this country wants most is to win the Euros.

“If everyone was expecting Rice to start, it was not even 100 per cent sure that Phillips would be in the squad. But he has become fundamental to England.

“Then, Jordan Henderson shows what a captain is. A captain of Liverpool, he does not need an armband to be a captain for England. He’s there to come on when the team needs fresh legs and stability.

“It’s not easy to stop Italy playing but it’s easier to stop them creating, by being compact, having a lower defensive block.

“What is difficult is to control possession. If Jorginho is playing for Chelsea and your No 10 presses him, it’s difficult for them.

Sky unleashes biggest ever broadband upgrade at a price that BT and Virgin can’t match

Sky Broadband has unleashed its fastest-ever speed – with downloads clocking in at 500Mbps. The full-fibre plan costs £45 a month when you sign-up to an 18-month contract. For comparison, BT charges £49.99 a month for 300Mbps, while Virgin Media customers can either pay £56 a month for 350Mbps, or £62 a month for 500Mbps. That makes Sky Broadband comfortably the most affordable option for these speeds.

But that’s not the only advantage of picking Sky over its biggest rivals.

Anyone who signs-up to Sky’s Ultrafast Plus package will be guaranteed download speeds of 400Mbps. Broadband speeds usually fluctuate throughout the day, with speeds on busy streets or estates taking a hit at peak times. Sky Broadband’s Speed Guarantee means you can claim a month’s subscription back if your speed falls below the minimum guaranteed speed.

BT and Virgin Media both offer similar schemes, but neither of these rivals is seemingly as confident in their ability to maintain speeds.

For example, BT’s Full Fibre 300 package only has a speed guarantee of 150Mbps. So, in order to claim from the telecoms giant, you’ll need to be regularly getting less than half of the broadband speed you’re paying for. Yikes. Virgin Media states that its M500 plan will usually deliver between 460 and 551Mbps, which is solid. However, the speed guarantee doesn’t kick-in until you’re getting below 258Mbps for three consecutive days.

If your speeds aren’t up to scratch after 30 days with BT, the company will hand over £20. It will also offer customers the chance to exit their contract without paying a charge for cancelling early. Likewise, Virgin Media has 30 days to resolve the issue. After that, it will also let you walk away and find a deal with a competitor before the end of your contract.

Sky’s equivalent guarantee is a little more generous. If your download speeds fall below the 400Mbps mark for three days in a row in any 30-day period, the satellite broadcaster will refund the cost of the last month. To be eligible, you’ll need be within your minimum term but can claim up to twice. If it happens within the first 30 days of your broadband being activated, Sky will also refund your money for any upfront setup costs.

The latest broadband package from Sky is only possible thanks to full-fibre connections, so you’ll need to have next-generation fibre cables running to your door to be eligible. If there are still ageing copper cables in your street, you’ll miss out.

However, Openreach – which manages the cable infrastructure used by Sky – has already connected five million homes to full-fibre cables. According to its latest estimates, it’s on track to hit 25 million premises across the UK by December 2026.

Sky’s 500Mbps Ultrafast Plus package is more than 10x faster than the UK’s average fibre speed.

That means you should have more than enough bandwidth for video calls, software updates, streaming music, online video games, and more. Busy households are unlikely to see any slowdown – enough if everyone is binging their own Netflix show in ultra-crisp 4K Ultra HD quality in separate rooms.

As you’d expect, there are no usage caps either. So don’t worry about downloading gargantuan PlayStation 5 games, gigabits of software updates for your iPhone, and more.

Director of Propositions at Sky Broadband Aman Bhatti said: “Today’s Ultrafast Plus launch reflects our commitment to providing customers with the fastest and most reliable broadband speeds possible. This is why Ultrafast Plus comes with the UK’s fastest Speed Guarantee, so our customers can game, stream, download and work from home seamlessly.”

Ultrafast Plus is available to new and existing Sky customers right now.

Andy Murray tests Roger Federer in 'intensive' warm-up match at Wimbledon

Wimbledon legends Roger Federer and Andy Murray warmed up for this year’s Championships by hitting together on an outside court today. The Swiss and the Scot spent an hour practising on Court 14 at 5pm.

Word quickly got around the All England Club and a crowd of media and staff soon gathered around the court.

Murray was leading 6-5 in games at the end of the intensive one-hour session.

Two-time champion Murray will play his first singles match since 2017 at Wimbledon on Monday against No.24 seed Nikoloz Basilashvili.

And eight-time winner Federer, who pulled out of the French Open after three matches, is on the other side of the draw so he will face Frenchman Adrian Mannarino on Tuesday.

The Swiss superstar will turn 40 in August and will play his first match at Wimbledon since losing the epic 2019 final to Novak Djokovic in a final-set tiebreak.

Djokovic has the chance to draw level with the male record of 20 Grand Slam singles titles jointly held by Federer and Rafa Nadal on July 11.

The Australian Open champion won the French Open title earlier this month to move to 19 – and take a second step towards a potential golden calendar Grand Slam.

Even Nadal’s uncle and former coach Toni Nadal believes Djokovic is now likely to finish his career with the record.

“The truth is that before Roland Garros I saw Rafael [as the favourite], now the subject has changed a bit,” the Spaniard told Marca.

“I wrote that the next Wimbledon and US Open are going to define things a bit because I understand that each year it will be more difficult to win.”

The Serb will play the first match on Centre Court at 1.30pm on Monday against British wildcard Jack Draper.

The son of the former head of the LTA said: “I am very excited to be playing on the biggest stage in tennis against the Wimbledon defending champion and the world No.1. I am looking forward to getting out there on Monday.”

British No.1 Dan Evans, who is seeded at Wimbledon for the first time at No.22, faces a tricky opening tie against Spaniard Feliciano Lopez. And No.29 seed Cam Norrie will play Lucas Pouille.

No.27 seed Jo Konta will start against world No.76 Katerina Siniakova, but she is on collision course to face world No.3 Ash Barty in the third round.

Wildcard Fran Jones faces a glamour clash with Coco Gauff on her Wimbledon debut.

Wimbledon, which was cancelled for the first time since the Second World War last year, starts on Monday.

NFL to match $100k donation from Carl Nassib to the Trevor Project

The league is hoping the move will further support suicide prevention efforts for LGBTQ youth, and is part of a year-long effort on diversity and inclusion.

The National Football League announced Tuesday that it will now match a $ 100,000 donation that defensive end Carl Nassib made to the Trevor Project amid his announcement that he identifies as gay.

The league said in a tweet Tuesday that it stands behind Nassib writing, “The NFL is committed to year-long efforts around diversity, equity, and inclusion.” In the statement the league went on to say, “We proudly support the LGBTQ+ community and will continue to work alongside the Trevor Project and our other community partners to further enhance our collective work.”

As Outsports reported, Nassib is the first active NFL player in history to publicly come out as gay.

Monday, Nassib released a video on Instagram announcing that he is gay. He also said that he would be donating $ 100,000 to the Trevor Project, an LGBTQ youth crisis prevention service.

“I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that I’m gay,” Nassib said in an Instagram video recorded from West Chester, Pennsylvania where he lives. “I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now, but I finally feel comfortable enough to get it off my chest.

“I really have the best life. I got the best family, friends and job a guy can ask for. I’m a pretty private person, so I hope you guys know that I’m really not doing this for attention. I just think that representation and visibility are so important.”

The Trevor Project was founded in 1998, by the makers of the short film “TREVOR,” which won an Academy Award. The project calls itself the “leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queen & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.”

England through to Euro 2020 last 16 before Czech Republic match thanks to Denmark win

England will definitely head into the Euro 2020 last-16 even if they lose to Czech Republic on Tuesday.

The Three Lions could suffer the ignominy of finishing third in Group D but still go through as their four points would make them one of the best third-placed teams.

UEFA’s format for the tournament means that four of the best third-placed teams go through to the knockout round.

England could face the strange prospect of a disappointing defeat against Czech Republic on Tuesday but still go through.

Gareth Southgate’s side are currently second in Group D but Russia’s 4-1 thumping of Russia in Group B has provided a safety net as England will certainly be one of the best third-placed countries.

They started their Euro 2020 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Croatia.

Raheem Sterling scored the only goal midway through the second half in a positive performance.

However, Sterling and his team-mates were far less promising during their goalless draw against Scotland on Friday.

England scarcely created a chance in the stalemate and Scotland were the far better side at Wembley Stadium.

Czech Republic are next to visit Wembley and are in good form.

They too have four points after beating Scotland 2-0, a game which included a stunning long-range goal by Patrik Schik, before drawing with Croatia.

But England’s plans for the game have been thrown into disarray with two stars forced to self-isolate.

Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell both came into close contact with Scotland’s Billy Gilmour after the sides’ draw on Friday and Gilmour has since tested positive for COVID-19.

The England pair have tested negative but will be kept away from the squad until further guidance by Public Health England, despite training with the squad on Monday.

Southgate has also faced calls to drop captain Harry Kane after two worrying performances by the Tottenham striker.

Kane is yet to have a shot on target in either of England’s opening two matches.

However, Southgate has suggested that he will persist with his star player.

“I think the only thing that’s relevant is what I’ve said already this week,” Southgate said.

“His importance to the team – he’s been our best player, our most influential player, our most important player for a long period of time.

“Of course there’s been moments where the likes of Raheem (Sterling) have probably had periods where he’s been critical for our success as well in terms the goalscoring.

“But Harry has consistently been our top goalscorer, his record since I’ve been in charge is phenomenal and he’s a hugely important figure for us.

“I think it’s the world of a big player. Throughout the time I’ve been England manager I must have managed these sorts of questions about Harry in three or four different periods of time, and inevitably he’s come through those periods and scored important goals for us and played exceptionally well.

“So it’s a bit of a repetitive cycle.”

BBB: Watch out for Austin FC ticket scams ahead of first-ever home match

AUSTIN (KXAN) – If you’re without a ticket to Austin FC’s season opener, you might be out of luck.

Or if you’re willing, you can try to snag one online — but will either pay a pretty penny or run the risk of being duped.

Single-game tickets went on sale at the end of May, and within minutes, they sold out. Shortly after, they started popping up on third-party online resell websites like eBay, Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace.

As of Friday morning, there are dozens of listings from sellers claiming to have tickets. They range from double, sometimes triple, the original price.

Last year, BBB received over 200 reports regarding fake tickets scams.

Austin FC ticketing officials told KXAN over the phone that in order to limit the sale of fake tickets, they went completely digital using ticket broker, SeatGeek. That means no tickets will be printed. Q2 Stadium has promoted a “tech-forward” experience announcing itself as a completely cashless stadium. Austin FC says the digital ticketing service helps keep it that way.

SeatGeek is both a primary and secondary ticket company. This allows them to both be the official ticket provider for Austin FC, while also serving as a reseller for fans wanting to put up their tickets back on the market.

Heather Massey with the Better Business Bureau Serving the Heart of Texas says its always a good idea to verify you’re buying tickets from the right website.

“A lot of sporting events or associations do partner with national ticket associations or legitimate third-party retailers. Just make sure you’re on the right website at the top, and that it does have the lockbox when entering any information such as financial to purchase the ticket,” Massey said.

BBB warns customers to be smart when searching for and purchasing tickets:

  • Purchase from the venue whenever possible. Many official ticket sales agents now offer secondary sales options, as well.
  • Consider your source. Know the difference between a professional ticket broker (a legitimate and accredited reseller), a ticket scalper (an unregulated and unlicensed ticket seller), and a scammer selling scam tickets.
  • Check out the seller/broker. Look them up on BBB.org to learn what other customers have experienced. Check to see if they are a member of the National Association of Ticket Brokers.
  • Buy only from trusted vendors. Buy online only from vendors you know and trust. Look for the lock symbol in the web address to indicate a secure purchasing system. Don’t click through from emails or online ads; a common ticket scam trick is to create a web address that is similar to a well-known company.
  • Know the refund policy. You should only purchase tickets from a ticket reseller that provides clear details about the terms of the transaction. Sellers should disclose to the purchaser, prior to purchase, the location of the seats represented by the tickets, either orally or by reference to a seating chart; and, if the tickets are not available for immediate access to the purchaser, disclose when the tickets will ship or be available for pick up.
  • Use payment methods that come with protection. Always use a credit card so you have some recourse if the tickets are not as promised. Debit cards, wire transfer or cash transactions are risky; if the tickets are fraudulent, you won’t be able to get your money back.
  • Be wary of advertisements. When you search the web for online tickets, advertisements for cheap tickets will often appear. Use good judgment; some of these ads are going to be ticket scams, especially if the prices are low.
  • If you’re unsure, verify your tickets. Pay a visit to the arena where the event will be held. Present your ticket to “Will Call” (customer service) and they can verify if your ticket is legitimate and show you how to tell if a ticket is fake.

Lastly, since tickets are digital, Austin FC says don’t expect to see anyone selling a physical ticket outside the stadium.
