Recruits, report for duty! We hope you’re ready to go out into the field soon, because Scarlet Nexus releases today, June 25 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. In futuristic New Himuka, the world has entered a new era where psionic hormones in the human brain have granted a select number of people with extra-sensory powers. These people, known as psionics, are tasked with protecting the world for deranged mutants called the Others.

If you haven’t done so yet, check out the demo to start things out with an extra edge! Make sure you try out the paths of both Yuito and Kasane in the demo and save your gameplay, as you’ll be able to unlock some special cosmetic items and plug-in enhancements to get a helpful boost to your journey.

Remember your training and use these helpful tips and tricks to help you get the most of your newly discovered psionic abilities.

1: Maximize Your Combat Abilities with the Struggle Arms System (a.k.a. SAS)

The SAS is a brain-to-brain connection with a virtual cable that allows you to connect with teammates to temporarily leverage allies’ psionic powers.

Scarlet Nexus

Use the SAS to combine your abilities and take down stronger enemies in battle that you’re having difficulties with. You’ll have a limited amount of time to use it in combat, but it will recharge over time.

Additionally, when the number of allies and useable SAS grow, there will be more places you will be able to reach. Who knows — you may discover something new if you revisit previous locations!

2: Remember to Read the Bio

If you’re having difficulties with certain enemies, you can read up on them in the library menu and learn about their attacking style and their weaknesses.

Scarlet Nexus

Others can have specific elemental weaknesses that can be amplified by connecting to teammates with certain psionic powers like pyrokinesis and electrokinesis. Other OSF teammates have abilities that can help you boost defense with clairvoyance or armor.

3: Don’t Underestimate the Power of Friendship (and Chatting!)

Stronger friendships and bonds with allies can help you in combat. To increase your team bond Level, you can increase individual bond levels by interacting with your allies by talking, giving special gifts, completing bond episodes and more. Higher team bond levels lead to bonuses like increased rates of Guardian Vision, Assault Vision, and Revivals, and even chances to receive special items.

As you play, you’ll also receive Brain Messages from your teammates about the situation. Get to know them more personally and don’t forget to respond! You’ll have a limited time on when you can reply, so check your messages regularly.

4: Stop by the Hideout Every Once in a While

You can return to your hideout at any time to completely restore your health. At the hideout, you can also talk to allies and give them gifts to deepen your bonds with your allies. Gifts are mainly obtained through the shop’s item exchange, and the gifts you give to allies will be festively displayed in their area at the hideout.

Scarlet Nexus

You can also spend time together in the hideout with companions you’ve built deeper bonds with. Sometimes your companion’s basic stats will slightly increase when you spend time with them. However, there is a limit to how much the stats can increase this way!

5: Afraid of Status Ailments? There Might Be a Plug-In for That

Plug-in equipment can offer resistance against various status ailments. Change your equipment to match the enemy you face to help you minimize and deal with the effects of status ailments like Burning, Shocked, Oil, Soaked, and Confused.

6: Use Both Weapon and Psychokinetic Attacks in Battle

The psychokinesis gauge is gradually drained when you use your psionic abilities to control and attack with surrounding objects. Use weapon attacks to help you restore the psychokinesis gauge faster during combat.

7: Watch Out If That Thing Isn’t Where You Left It

When revisiting a location, you may notice an object’s strange movement! When some objects appear to be placed in a different position, this is most likely the work of an Other, as they have been observed to collect and move objects. A more obvious hint to the possible presence of Others is the Pinecone Flower. It is a strange flower regularly seen around their habitats, and there are reports of a great number of them growing in areas that endured large assaults.

8: Get Both Sides of the Story

When you start the game, you can play as Yuito or Kasane. You’ll need to create two different files to play them separately.

They have their own playstyle, allies, and story differences. Kasane uses daggers where she can hit more Others but does less damage than Yuito’s sword; however, her psychokinesis is stronger than Yuito’s.

In the far distant future, a psionic hormone was discovered in the human brain, granting people extra-sensory powers and changed the world as we knew it. As humanity entered this new era, deranged mutants known as Others began to descend from the sky with a hunger for human brains. The Design Behind Scarlet Nexus

Crafting a new IP is serious business, a challenge that is no stranger to the development team behind the new futuristic action RPG Scarlet Nexus!

Bandai Namco assembled a veteran team to lead this ambitious project, tapping their firsthand experience in launching original IP. With Code Vein Producer Keita Iizuka at the helm, Director Kenji Anabuki bringing years of experience from his work on Tales of, and Art Director Kouta Ochiai rounding out the leadership team with his unique design style, together they led a four-year journey to build the world of Scarlet Nexus.

Scarlet Nexus

Scarlet Nexus takes place deep into the far future, one greatly influenced by Tokyo and Japan of the ‘90s. Heavy inspiration was taken from not only the look and design of the time, but also in how it was described in pop culture. Often, technological excess was a common theme and used in many designs and framings in both Western sci-fi and Japanese anime at the time.

Scarlet Nexus imagines a world that evolved directly from that era. To push that worldview, the team looked to capitalize on some key images to amplify their vision. For example, you can see the landscape of New Himuka littered with an excess of visions, holographic imagery that is projected to citizens minds via government-maintained infrastructures. The holograms celebrate a ‘90s design trope for cutting-edge futuristic technology that can be somewhat nostalgic.

Scarlet Nexus

When applying the characters to the world environment, the team looked to create a believable aesthetic with the character anime look and feel. To best set them against realistic background imagery, they leaned into cel-shading techniques that built a layer between the characters and the environments, achieving a unique juxtaposition of design sensibilities.

Scarlet Nexus

Additionally, this duality of styles was especially complementary to the design of the Others, deranged mutants that descend to Earth from outer space. Comprised of various animate and inanimate objects, these monstrous amalgamations were designed specifically to evoke feeling of familiarity and foreignness. Utilizing different types of motion capture styles, they aimed to amplify that feeling of uneasiness in a way completely unique Scarlet Nexus.

But duality doesn’t stop there! The story of Scarlet Nexus is a tale told through the eye of two separate heroes, Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall. Though it is one story, each character follows their own path with shared and individual moments to be experienced. Either story path can be selected from the start and each play will reveal a greater portion of the story, with a deeper view into the minds and hearts of our heroes. Their differences can also be felt in their combat as well, each specializing in different combat styles and weaponry.

Scarlet Nexus

A weapon can only get you so far in a fight against the Others. Often, you will need to lean on your allies for support. That’s where SAS — Struggle Arms System — comes into play. Connecting to your party members, you can borrow their abilities via SAS. This connection is represented by giant red cables that connect to your back as you tap in their powers.

Aside from specific scenario missions, you are often able to select your party members before you head out to battle. Considering the challenges before you, it is worth balancing your squad with the right members before you ready up and head out. Some abilities can be combined with your own psychokinesis to add extra oomph or simply function all on its own. Part of the fun is learning your team’s strengths and building closer bonds with them to make your team ups even more powerful.

Scarlet Nexus

Digging deeper into your power reserves, you can enter a Brain Field — a state where the player experiences heightened senses and immense power. This transformation, if you will, is signified by the player donning their hood and revealing a color mask flurry.

Combining fashion into gameplay mechanics is something we have seen with Keita Iizuka’s previous work Code Vein, where garments played a big role in gameplay. Probably one of the reasons Scarlet Nexus has an extensive customization system of both costumes and accessories for your character and cast of teammates.

Scarlet Nexus

Growth is also a very necessary element in building a well-rounded JRPG. The player should feel there is a clear path of progression and reward that awaits them for their efforts. Along the way, both Yuito and Kasane have their own unique Brain Maps that they unlock as they progress through their individual campaign.

Each map adjusted to accommodate each character’s playstyle. For example, Yuito’s Brain Map path matches his close-quarters playstyle by opening faster knock-down recovery traits. Kasane, however, unlocks many dexterity traits early on to accommodate her mid-range attack style. Best of all, players can choose which items they wish to build up in their order of choice, letting them cater to their own play habits and style.

Scarlet Nexus

All these elements working in harmony with the power of Xbox Series X|S — delivering these visuals in a crisp 4k resolution and smooth 60 FPS — is a sight to behold and truly brings Scarlet Nexus’ debut to the next level. We can’t wait for you to experience the wonder that is Scarlet Nexus when it releases on June 25, 2021. And don’t forget: with Smart Delivery, Xbox has you covered. Buy Scarlet Nexus once and play on either on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S!

Scarlet Nexus: Futuristic Tech and Psychic Abilities Stylishly Unite on June 25

Scarlet Nexus is the upcoming Japanese Action RPG from Bandai Namco Studios, led by two members of the Tales of Vesperia team: Kenji Anabuki, and Keita Iizuka. The world of Scarlet Nexus is set in an alternate and perilous future.

Humanity is under constant threat from “Others,” dangerous mutants that rain from the sky to hunt humans. To protect the world, humans with extra-sensory abilities, called psionics, are recruited into the Other Suppression Force (OSF). With their powerful and unique psychic powers, the OSF bands together to exterminate the Others.

The combat system in Scarlet Nexus allows you to take full advantage of your party’s psionic powers. The playable protagonists, Yuito and Kasane, specialize in Psychokinesis. Which enables them to manipulate objects with their mind.

Utilizing Psychokinesis, the environment becomes your weapon against the Others. By chaining melee combos with Psychokinesis attacks, Yuito and Kasane are two of the most adept members of OSF.

Scarlet Nexus

But the psionic possibilities don’t stop there. By using the Struggle Arms System (SAS), Yuito and Kasane can synergize with a party member’s unique psychic power to make it their own.

Activate SAS to gain an offensive edge with Hanabi Ichijo’s Pyrokinesis, enhancing your melee and psychokinesis attacks with flames. Or gain a defensive advantage with Gemma Garrison’s Sclerokinesis, providing damage immunity for a short time. SAS can severely turn the tide of battle, and there are many other party members with psychic powers to connect with.

Scarlet Nexus: Futuristic Tech and Psychic Abilities Stylishly Unite on June 25

In Scarlet Nexus, you have robust options to match your preferred playstyle. By equipping various Plug-Ins to your party members, you can improve their stats, enhancing their physical attacks and psychic abilities. Or even specifically upgrade your psychic powers to make your favorite combo even more rewarding in the field.

Members of the OSF are fully equipped with unique psychic powers and weaponry, but no cadet should go into battle without style. Scarlet Nexus features hundreds of cosmetic options for fresh OSF cadets.

Equip Yuito, Kasane, and the members of your party with the style and flair fit for sorties against the Others. There are many cosmetic outfits and items for your choosing in Scarlet Nexus, so mix and match them to enhance your battle with style.

We are very excited to bring the world and characters of Scarlet Nexus to you when it launches June 25, 2021 on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
