A Quiet Place Part 2: Emily Blunt film leads box office as UK sees cinemas reopening

Next week the long-awaited sequel to A Quiet Place hits cinemas. A Quiet Place Part 2 brings Blunt and Krasinski back onto the big screen to run away from the nightmarish monsters who destroy anything they hear. Just days ahead of its release the projected box office sales have been revealed, and they are extremely promising.
Ticket sales website Fandango reports A Quiet Place Part 2 is drumming up “strong” pre-sales just a week ahead of its release.

The film comes out over the US holiday Memorial Day Weekend, meaning it has three days to garner some strong sales.

The website reports A Quiet Place Part 2 is selling “twice as many” tickets compared to its previously scheduled 2020 release before the coronavirus pandemic forced its delay into 2021.

Fandango also reported the film was on track to make a staggering amount of money over its previous movie.

While specific numbers weren’t provided, A Quiet Place Part 2 is due to overtake A Quiet Place’s incredible opening weekend.

When A Quiet Place was released in 2018 it earned more than $ 50 million in cinemas on the opening weekend.

Variety says the sequel has the potential to generate “between $ 40 million and $ 50 million in its first three days in theatres”.

If these numbers are met, A Quiet Place Part 2 would become the highest-selling film of the pandemic.

The reimagining of the 101 Dalmatians villain looks like it is going to cause a stir, with some rave reviews already coming in.

Cruella is being released simultaneously in cinemas and on Disney Plus with a premium charge.

Variety added that the Disney movie could make “$ 30-$ 40 million” in its first weekend.

Fandango’s managing editor, Erik Davis, commented: “This is the kind of experience theatres were made for. Audiences who have long been waiting for the big-screen debut of A Quiet Place Part 2 will not be disappointed.”

A Quiet Place Part 2 follows a strong performance from its predecessor, which was a sleeper hit when it was released in 2018, despite having a short promotional campaign.

The film was also the debut of Krasinski as a director, leaving the movie an unexpected triumph when it arrived on the big screen.

The movie was an enormous success upon the release, raking in more than $ 340 million on a meagre $ 20 million budget.

A Quiet Place Part 2 hits cinemas on May 28, 2021.

PS5 game UPDATE: Last of Us Part 2 v1.08 patch notes for PlayStation booster

PlayStation 5 users can download a big new update for The Last of Us Part 2.

The Last of Us Part 2 update 1.08 is a performance patch that makes the game run smoother on PS5

Sony announced the news on the PlayStation Blog, confirming that PS5 fans will now find a new Display option in the menu.

“One of the most requested items from our community has been to release a PS5 performance patch for The Last of Us Part II,” reads a Sony post.

“Once patch 1.08 for The Last of Us Part II is installed on your PS5, you will find a toggle in the Display options that allows you to choose between a Framerate Target of 30 FPS or 60 FPS.

“This allows you to choose your preferred framerate to complement the rest of the enhancements that are part of the PS5 backward compatibility with PS4 games, such as an enhanced resolution, faster load times, and more.”

Interestingly, developer Naughty Dog hints at more enhancements to come on the PlayStation. Perhaps we’ll get some DualSense additions to the PS5 at some point.

“The team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and we’re excited about what the future holds.

“This patch is just the first step of working on the PS5. We’ll let you know when we’ve got more news to share!”

Despite dividing fans when it launched in 2020, Naughty Dog’s Last of Us sequel has won countless awards.

“So far 2021 has been incredible, and supremely humbling, as The Last of Us Part II has been recognised with over 300 Game of the Year Awards, an unprecedented achievement.

“We are super grateful to our community for your terrific support over the past year, including voting us the BAFTA EE Game of the Year and the Golden Joystick Ultimate Game of the Year.

“We’ve received a ton of fan mail letting us know how meaningful The Last of Us series has been for you and we’ve been astounded by all the excellent fan-art, cosplay, and tattoos you have been sharing with us.”

One of the biggest and best PlayStation exclusives, The Last of Us Part 2 takes place five years after the original game.

“After a deadly journey across post-pandemic USA, Ellie and Joel settle down in Wyoming.

“Living in a thriving community gives them stability, despite the threat of the Infected and desperate survivors.

“When a violent event disrupts the peace, Ellie begins a relentless journey for justice. Hunting those responsible, she’s confronted by devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 release date: Square Enix FINALLY breaks silence on sequel

It’s been a bumper week of news for Final Fantasy 7 fans, as Square Enix breaks its silence about the upcoming sequel.

With Final Fantasy 7 expansion Intergrade launching in just a few weeks time, Square Enix hyped the release with a brand new trailer.

In a stream to accompany the new trailer, director Tetsuya Nomura made some comments about Part 2 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project.

Translated by industry insider Nibel on Twitter, Nomura reportedly said that development of the sequel is going smoothly.

This is good news for fans awaiting the release date, because it sounds like it could launch sooner rather than later.

Perhaps even more exciting is the news that the sequel will have a much different atmosphere than Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 1.

The next part will begin right after the events of Intergrade, as Cloud and the rest of the gang find themselves running in the wilderness.

The original Final Fantasy 7 really opens up after the opening section in Midgar, as players are introduced to the world map.

It’s also a much brighter and vibrant game once you’re away from the dark and dingy Midgar slums.

In other Final Fantasy 7 news, Square Enix and Sony both confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be a PS5 console exclusive for at least six months.

Speaking of the Intergrade expansion, the new trailer contains some revealing scenes from the new DLC.

In addition to showcasing some of Yuffie’s skills and abilities, fans were given a look at the Fort Condor minigame.

Likewise, we were also given a look at some of the new battle sequences, not to mention storyline teasers for Yuffie’s episode.

Final Fantasy VII Remake expands upon and reimagines the spectacular world of the original PlayStation game,” reads the official description.

“It covers up through the escape from Midgar and is the first game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project. Intergrade is a bundle that includes both Remake and FF7R EPISODE INTERmission (the new story content featuring Yuffie).

“In her episode, play as the spirited ninja after she arrives in Midgar. There, she and another Wutaian operative are to rendezvous with Avalanche HQ, infiltrate the Shinra Building, and steal the conglomerate’s most powerful materia.”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade has a June 10 release date for PlayStation 5.

Fans who pre-order the game ahead of launch can unlock the Cacstar weapon, which Yuffie can wield in her episode.

Is Jersey part of the UK?

Some 80 French boats are gathered at the entrance to Jersey’s main port of St Helier and had threatened to blockade the port on Thursday morning which would prevent supplies from reaching the island. The UK has sent two Royal Navy vessels to patrol the area, which the government said was to “monitor the situation”, and Boris Johnson pledged his “unwavering support” for Jersey.

Is Jersey part of the UK?

Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands which are not part of the UK.

However, they are what is known as ‘dependent territories of the British Crown’.

This means the UK is constitutionally responsible for the islands and their defence.

Jersey has its own cultural identity, but the impact of the UK is evident in the language and the use of the Pound as its primary currency.

READ MORE: Jersey chaos: Video catches moment boats COLLIDE during tense scenes

Under an agreement with the EU, French boat operators must show a history of fishing in the area to receive a licence for Jersey’s waters, but it has been claimed additional requirements were added without notice.

On Friday, the Jersey government – which has the sole power to grant the licenses – granted 41 permits to French fishing vessels that are equipped with technology that allows them to be located.

But the French government claimed the list of approved ships came with further demands that “were not arranged or discussed, and which we were not notified about”.

The French maritime minister, Annick Girardin, said she was “revolted” by the UK’s behaviour and suggested France could cut off electricity to Jersey in retaliation.

Jersey relies on “the transmission of electricity by underwater cable”, Ms Girardin said as she indicated the supply could be used as a point of leverage.

She told assembly members that she “would regret it if we were to get there,” but added: “We will do so if we have to.”

On Wednesday night, Prime Minister Boris Johnson pledged his “unwavering support” for Jersey.

He said that “any blockade” by French boats would be “completely unjustified”.

Two British navy ships now provide a daunting presence off the coast.

HMS Severn, which has previously been used to shadow Russian navy warships off the English coast, can be seen from the port.

HMS Tamar is nearby and both ships are maintaining a presence and not making any effort to intervene.

Two French vessels are also patrolling the area, which the maritime prefecture of Manche and Mer du Nord said was a public service mission to ensure safety.

Blake Shelton Admits Meeting Gwen Stefani Has Been The ‘Greatest Part’ Of 10 Years On ‘The Voice’

While reflecting about his 10-year stint on ‘The Voice’ during the show’s anniversary special, Blake Shelton reminisced about meeting his now-fiancee, Gwen Stefani, on the show.

Blake Shelton has The Voice to thank for his relationship with Gwen Stefani, who he’s currently engaged to. On May 3, the show celebrated its 10-year anniversary with a special episode, and Blake discussed meeting Gwen on the show during the tribute. “People ask me all the time, ‘What’s the greatest thing that’s happened to you since you’ve been on The Voice?’” Blake explained. “That’s a no brainer, right? I met my fiancee here!”

Blake has been a coach on The Voice since its very first season in 2011, and Gwen made her debut on the show during season 7 in 2014. At the time, she was married to Gavin Rossdale and Blake was married to Miranda Lambert. However, when Gwen came back for season 9 in 2015, both she and Blake were recently divorced from their former spouses. They connected on a deeper level while dealing with the same heartbreak in their personal lives. Behind the scenes, they quietly started dating, and have been together ever since!

“If you told me back in 1996 that Gwen Stefani was going to be my girlfriend, I would have laughed you out of the room,” Blake admitted on the anniversary special. “I would have thought you were crazy. Saying it right now, I almost bust out laughing, that’s how ridiculous it is.”

However, Blake added that he “loves it” when Gwen is on the show (she returned as a coach for seasons 12, 17 and 19 as well). “She brings a very complicated element of competition for me in particular,” he gushed. “But I love that. I love the challenge. Just knowing that she’s there and she has my back is pretty cool.”

Blake proposed to Gwen in October 2020 after five years of dating. The two haven’t revealed their wedding date yet, but in March, Blake told Hoda Kotb that they’re hoping for sometime “this summer.” Gwen also recently said that she and her man are planning for a “simple wedding” that surprisingly “won’t have a lot of musicians” in attendance. “It’s gonna be, like, my mom and my dad, and like, just literally going to be family,” she explained. “We are looking forward to that, though. It’s going to be fun. We’re going to make it really fun, but it’s not going to be a big, like — you know, it’s not like the king and queen are getting married or something!”

Call of Duty Warzone gets a major performance boost as part of Season 3 update

This post originally appeared on Daily Express :: Entertainment Feed

Call of Duty Warzone Season 3 launched this week, alongside a host of new map changes, Battle Pass rewards and even a new game mode.

Arguably lost in the shuffle of all the Season 3 upgrades is the addition of DLSS support, which can potentially give games a huge performance boost.

Available in Call of Duty Warzone and Call of Duty Modern Warfare, enabling DLSS improves performance by upwards of 70% while playing at 4K.

“Gamers with NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs are getting a free upgrade in performance today, when Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare add NVIDIA DLSS support to these blockbuster titles,” reads an official statement.

“Following the release of a new update today, gamers can enable NVIDIA DLSS in Call of Duty: Warzone, Modern Warfare’s multiplayer modes, and Modern Warfare’s co-op Spec Ops mode.

“Enabling NVIDIA DLSS in the options menu will result in boosted performance on GeForce RTX graphics cards by up to 70% at 4K.”

As you can see from the image below, even the RTX 3060 can exceed an average of 60 frames-per-second with DLSS enabled.

Electric cars: Boris should ‘take responsibility’ and ‘play part’ to boost sales

This post originally appeared on Daily Express :: Life and Style Feed

They have called for major updates to ensure electric car prices are reduced to “better compete” with petrol and diesel cars. The experts claimed electric charging infrastructure needed to be improved, saying it was “not good enough” in its current model.
Their comments come after a new analysis by the group has revealed 92 percent of UK drivers do not feel current infrastructure is good enough for current demand.

The analysis found 69 percent of road users do not think this infrastructure will even be good enough for electric cars by 2030.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Chris Green, Regit COO said: “It’s clear that three major things need to happen in order to speed that transition up.

“The price of EVs needs to generally reduce to better compete with petrol and diesel alternatives.

READ MORE: Classic cars converted to electric power in ‘world first’

Concerns over charging time were also stopping 61 percent from adopting a new electric vehicle.

However, only 30 percent of those surveyed said they would never adopt an electric vehicle at any stage.

Four percent of motorists said they would be prepared to buy one later this year with 20 percent saying this would be before 2025.

Mr Green has warned there is “no doubt” changes would happen “quickly” over the coming years.

However, he has said the Government needed to “play its part” to ensure infrastructure was delivered.

He added: “The technology will need to continually improve so range anxiety disappears and charge times become quicker.

“I have no doubt that this will happen quickly over the coming years.

“As a result, we’re in a strong position to ensure there is a high adoption of electric vehicles over the coming years and this is largely down to excitement created by the automotive sector with regards to new models and technologies.

“But we certainly need the Government to play its part in delivering infrastructure and education so the dream of mass adoption of EVs becomes a reality.”

The Department for Transport said: “The UK has one of the largest charging networks in Europe, with over 160,000 residential and almost 21,000 public chargepoints already installed.

“Recently, we’ve committed even more funding to support charging infrastructure as we phase out the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles.

“This is testament to the Government’s commitment to creating a cleaner, greener transport system for all.”

Warzone Part 2 event time: Destruction of Verdansk continues after Call of Duty update

This post originally appeared on Daily Express :: Gaming Feed

Having kicked off the Destruction of Verdansk, gamers are now waiting for Part 2 of the Call of Duty Warzone event to begin.

The good news is that developers Raven Software has shared its schedule for what is coming next, meaning we can track what happens next.

Destruction of Verdansk Part 1 included fans dropping into Verdansk in groups of fours, with expanding radioactive areas limiting the areas gamers could explore.

This was quickly followed by Juggernaut scorestreaks dropping across the map in loadout boxes.

And with plenty of mini-guns blasting across different location, players soon started getting taken out.

But instead of being thrown into the Gulag, players were brought back as Zombies who would continue to drop back into Verdansk.

With gas pushing gamers into a small circle, the event ended with a failed Exfil ending with a short trailer.

This included a nuclear weapon being fired toward the Stadium, bringing an end to the modern Verdansk era.

After the Destruction of Verdnask Part 1, Raven Software released several Rebirth Island playlists, all of which take place at night.

Apart from the game being hosted at night, Rebirth Island also has a new location called the Control Centre.

And this new POI looks set to play a bigger role in the second part of this week’s Warzone event.

From what has been shared so far, the next major event will be the release of Warzone Season 3.

This will come complete with a new trailer, and eventually, the showcasing of the new Verdansk map, which will reportedly be from a different era.

Changes in locations and POIs are expected to be included, but it’s unclear if other content from Modern Warfare will be removed.

This will be happening at 5am BST on April 22, and will mean downloading and installing a new Warzone patch. However, after rebooting the game with Season 3, gamers will need to until 8pm BST on April 22 to play the new map.

The Season Three update was made available for Black Ops Cold War on April 20 at 9 PM PT and will be available for Warzone April 21 at 9 PM PT.

For this update, there will be a download size of approximately 8.1 – 13.1 GB for Black Ops Cold War and 25.2 – 25.9 GB for owners of the free-to-play Warzone who have the latest updates on either game.

Warzone Update Sizes:

  • PlayStation 5: 25.6 GB
  • PlayStation 4: 25.6 GB
  • Xbox Series X / Xbox Series S: 25.9 GB
  • Xbox One: 25.9 GB
  • PC: 25.2 GB

A message from Activision adds: “It is expected that exfiltration helicopters will arrive across Verdansk after 12:00 today, April 21. Due to the number of aircraft needed for this evacuation and the unusual wind conditions across Kastovia, we only have an estimated time of arrival for the first formation of helicopters, but we expect evacuations to be finished by 14:00.

“Third, due to the Containment Protocol communication efforts, a system-wide update will need to be done across our network. This will require all Operators to manually update their comms unit (for civilians, their “console”) starting at 21:00 on April 21. Given the above timeline, we expect the operation to be successful and comms to fully resume to normal by 12:00 on April 22.”

Call of Duty Warzone event Part 2 has this schedule:

April 21

  • 2PM PT – 10PM BST: Seek safety from Verdansk on Rebirth Island.
  • 9PM PT – 5AM BST: Update your comms (console) and investigate Rebirth Island.

April 22

  • 12:00PM PT – 8PM BST: Return tomorrow to Rebirth for updated instructions.

This could be connected to the new Hunt for Adler event, which has been announced for April 22, with Activision telling fans this week: “Starting with the launch of Season Three, the new “Hunt for Adler” limited-time event will task Operators with unique in-game challenges in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone to learn of Adler’s whereabouts. Complete these Intel Challenges to unlock Event rewards, including Weapon Charms, Calling Cards, a new Operator Skin, and more.

“You can find more details about this event in the Seasonal Event tab on the main menu between Play and Weapons once Season Three kicks off in Warzone. Once you’ve completed a full set of challenges in either Black Ops Cold War or Warzone over the course of the event, you’ll unlock an exclusive Adler skin for use in both games.”
