“Career Success: Youth Mentorship and Career Guidance Program” (PHOTO)

In December 2020, Junior Achievement Azerbaijan in partnership with MOL Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Education launched the “Career Success: Youth Mentorship and Career Guidance” program. It was a mentorship and work readiness program that focuses on helping youth to develop employability skills and prepare them for the world of work. The overall goal of the program was to support young people in development of professional and business skills and cultivate the future business leaders’ character, creativity and leadership through mentorship.

Due to the pandemic situation the project was implemented online engaging more than thousand young people at age 13-25, across all over Azerbaijan. Youth living not only in the regions along the BTC line including Garadagh, Absheron, Hajigabul, Agsu, Kurdamir, Yevlax, Aghdash, Shamkir, Tovuz, Gazakh, and but also other regions such as Guba, Khachmaz, Lankaran, Gakh and Gabala showed high interest in the program. The eight months long program was a great opportunity, particularly for the young people living in rural areas.

The program was designed and delivered based on the age group of the participants. Tailor Made training programs have been offered to the secondary school children and university students separately. Training sessions and mentor meetings organized during the program aimed to help participants to estimate their strengths and weaknesses, to determine their interests, to understand the world of work and to improve personal skills needed to achieve career and lifelong learning success. Through the online workshops they were introduced to the fundamental business and economic concepts, explored career interests and opportunities, and developed work-readiness skills.

The program closing and award ceremony held on July 16, 2021. Project participants, trainers and mentors attended the event with greater enthusiasm. Mr. Bakhtiyar Akhundov, country manager at MOL Azerbaijan, underlined the value of the program for the career planning and development of youth as future professionals. This project opened and showed different perspectives and opportunities for the participants.

Jeremy Clarkson on being ‘accosted’ as fans were ‘determined’ to ‘take photo of his penis’

Jeremy Clarkson on being ‘accosted’ as fans were 'determined' to ‘take photo of his penis’

Jeremy Clarkson, 61, has been in the public eye since 1988, when he joined Top Gear as a presenter. His witticisms, advanced knowledge of cars and, as he’d like to think in some cases, everything else, propelled him to international fame, but with that came some very strange experiences with fans.

Over the years, The Grand Tour star has taken millions of photographs and signed thousands of autographs for his growing fanbase, but there was one memorable incident that has remained engrained in his mind.

“I was once accosted at a motorway service station urinal,” he sighed.

“A group of guys seemed very determined to take a photograph of my penis.

“And there’s no point using the cubicles instead because if they know you’re in there, camera phones will soon appear under the door and over the side of the stalls.”

The recollection came after one of the young lads who videoed themselves “harassing” Chris Whitty, lost his job as an estate agent and was charged with assault.

The Chief Medical Officer was filmed by two men the other week as he tried to flee their clutches, and while they were branded “despicable thugs” by Boris Johnson and thousands of others who saw the footage, Jeremy wondered whether the punishment really fit the crime.

It prompted him to think about how people nowadays seem to live their lives as a series of ten-second movies.

“All of them are competing for an Oscar,” he said of his own encounter in the toilet stall.

He added: “Certainly, I don’t see why someone should be sacked for being what? Young?”

While on the subject of fan reactions, he also revealed that when he’s been mobbed in public, things “often turn mildly physical”.

After claiming that he doesn’t think it is “entirely fair” for the young man to have lost his job in the case Mr Whitty, he noted that if you’re in the public eye, you “have to expect attention” when out and about in public.

“If I walk past a building site, or a pub, I can pretty much guarantee that I’ll be surrounded almost immediately by a gang of young men shouting ‘One photo. One photo,'” he wrote in his column for The Sun.

Elvis Presley’s romance with teenage dancer after seeing her photo in a nightclub

Elvis Presley's romance with teenage dancer after seeing her photo in a nightclub

Elvis Presley returned from Germany in 1960 with a newfound love of women. Not long after that, he brought Priscilla Presley to Graceland to live with him – but his womanising didn’t stop just because his fiancée was in the country. The singer reportedly spotted a photo of young Sandy Martindale in her father’s Los Angeles nightclub in 1961, prompting the start of another relationship for the King of Rock and Roll.

Sandy spoke to Elvis.com.au in 2015 where she recalled how she got on with Elvis during the 1960s.

At just 14-years-old, Sandy’s photo was enough to completely “bowl Elvis over”.

She recalled: “He called me to go out, but I had to tell him I had school the next day.

“The next night Mom drove me to the club to meet him.”

She laughed: “My mother came with us on our first dates. I was so embarrassed I cried.”

“He was 24. He held my hand, kissed me on the cheek and I was a goner.”

Sandy went on: “In Viva Las Vegas that’s me with Ann-Margret and Elvis dancing at the roulette table.”

Eventually, in 1967, Elvis broke it off before going on to marry Priscilla.

But even after his marriage began, the King maintained stayed in contact with Sandy, remaining friends until the end.

The youngster described being “devastated” when she last saw Elvis backstage at one of his last Las Vegas concerts – just before he passed away in 1977.

Sandy went on to marry Wink Martindale, a renowned American DJ, radio personality and TV producer.

Wink became fast friends with Elvis over the years, playing a number of his songs on his TV and radio shows.

The couple has since appeared on Sirius’ Elvis Radio to share stories about the King.
