Addressing his swift exit, Susanna said as part of a lengthy statement on air: “Piers and I have disagreed on many things, and that dynamic was one of the things that viewers loved about the programme.
“He is, without doubt, an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster. He has many critics and he has many fans.
“You all know that I disagreed with him about Meghan’s interview, he himself clarified his comments about her mental health on the show yesterday.
“There are many voices on GMB and everyone has their say. But now Piers has decided to leave the programme. Some of you may cheer and others will boo.”
Mike Reid has teamed up with Aldi to celebrate “Junemas”, which is, essentially, Christmas in June. Aldi reintroduced its favourite Christmas products to stores this week, including mince pies, turkey burgers, and pigs in blankets.
He said: “Start off with a great piece of meat. The produce you start off with is half of what makes a good chef good.
“Using some good ingredients – Aldi’s got some phenomenal beef at the moment.
“Make sure you take things out of the fridge half an hour begore you’re planning on cooking it so that it’s at room temperature, and then doing it over a barbecue.
“Doing it over coal or over wood gives you that real extra authentic flavour to your steak. You can add a marinate to it too.”
Interestingly, Mike explained that cooking meat on a barbecue is healthier than in a pan.
He said: “If you’re cooking a steak in pan, then you’re rendering the fat of that steak in a pan and so it sits there and goes back into the meat.
“If you’re cooking a steak on a barbecue, the fat drips down into the coal.
“So it’s actually much healthier cooking steak on a barbecue than in a pan or oven roasting.
“And there’s so many vegetables you can do on a barbecue, like a whole roasted cauliflower, aubergine, and eggplant.
“There’s such a variety. For me, barbecuing equals flavour – it doesn’t matter what that is. Whether it’s meat, or fish, or vegetables, you’re packing so much flavour in there.”
Mike stressed that one of the most important things to focus on when hosting a barbecue is the preparation.
He said: “Get things done in advance. You can get majority of the work done the day before. That takes the stress away.
“Share the work too so you can enjoy the day,” added Mike.
To serve with the meat at a barbecue, the chef recommended making a light salad and, as a drink, something fruity.
He said: “Think light flavours – berry punch, tropical ginger beer with rum, or Aperol Spritz.
“I like rum with pineapple juice too, or you can use ginger beer as the base.”
Flaming Junemas turkey burgers with added sauce
2 Turkey Burgers
2 Brioche burger buns
50g Mature cheddar cheese
100g Cranberry sauce
50g Dijon mustard
– Cook Aldi’s turkey burgers over coals to get that nice, natural smokey flavour to your meat
– Once cooked through, add your cheese right at the end at the end so it melts over the top
– At the same time, slightly toast one of Aldi’s gorgeous brioche buns on the grill
– Place your mustard mayonnaise on the base, followed by some fresh rocket
– Top with your patty and cranberry sauce
A great tip to ensure you melt your cheese without over cooking your burger is to cover it with a metal bowl, this will generate steam to give you an even melt.
Sizzling lime and chilli BBQ Santa-claws
100ml Sweet chilli sauce
1 Red Chilli, sliced
1 lime, cut in half
Coriander to garnish
– Cook your prawns over a medium to high heat – you’ll start to see some nice rich colour appearing on the outer shells
– Once cooked to perfection, add your sweet chilli sauce to a bowl
– Toss in your prawns and nicely coat them all over
– Add in your sliced fresh chilli for a little extra heat
– Cut your lime in half and also grill, which not only gives you a lovely finish but most importantly draws out the natural sugars within
– Squeeze over the prawns for a turbo charged lime flavour, finishing them off with that added zing!
It’s not an Aussie barbecue without throwing some prawns on the barbie! Don’t be afraid of the colour – as I often tell my chefs, colour is flavour when you are cooking over fire.
The question of whether marriage was a ‘sexist’ and outdated institution was debated on ITV’s Good Morning Britain today after a move to modernise the tradition with the introduction of mother’s names on marriage certificates.
In England and Wales, both sets of parents now will be named in the marriage certificates of their children – formerly it was only the fathers who were named.
GMB today posed the question to invited guests to debate whether the whole institution of mixed sex marriages involving the woman wearing a white dress and being handed over from one man to another – needs to change.
And regular presenter Susanna Reid revealed it was her “personal choice” not to marry, adding: “I’ve never married and I’d like to say to the children that you’re not illegitimate, or whatever convention says.”

Feminist actress and presenter Jeni Barnett said marriage is an old-fashioned concept
“It is a sign of love and devotion and all that romantic stuff, but the romance finishes after two years.
“What us feminists are saying is it’s ok to get married and have this wonderful romantic gesture, but you have to remain who you are, and you are not a chattel.”
The actress said she couldn’t wear a ring for the first six months of her marriage and she didn’t take her husband’s name as she didn’t want to be ‘owned’ by him.
“After 33 years of marriage we get on with our own lives and marriage is ok but I wouldn’t care if I hadn’t done it at all.”
Entertainer Debbie McGee, wife of the late magician Paul Daniels, however argued that marriage isn’t out-dated or sexist.
“It’s your choice these days. It’s nothing to do with a man saying ‘this is my woman’ and so much has already changed and I think it’s great. We are changing and evolving and that’s good.
“It should just be about saying ‘this is the one I love over anyone else’ and I don’t think it should be about what other people are thinking. It’s between two people.”
Many viewers agreed with Jeni, with one tweeting afterwards: “Never lose sight that are also ‘you’ and don’t let your other half dictate.
“Yes, compromise, and listen to each other, but never be a prisoner, you have the right to your own life too.”
One traditionalist posted: “My dad waked me down the aisle and was so proud. I loved it. I took my husband’s name and love that too. Tradition is not a bad thing.”
Katie Price introduced her new fiancé Carl Woods to the public – only to find herself on the end of barbed comments from a Good Morning Britain presenter.
Adil Ray had a few digs at Price’s eighth engagement ahead of her appearance on GMB.
Adil raised his eyebrows as it was revealed she was coming on the show, the Mirror reports.
He told viewers: “This time, it’s for real! Katie Price claims it’s definitely love with eighth time fiancé Carl Woods after just 10 months.
“So what’s different this time?”

In the studio, Adil said: “Very excited about Katie Price being on the show.”
Noticing Adil’s wry tone, fellow presenter Susanna Reid quipped: “Look, whatever you say about Katie Price you can’t deny that she’s an eternal romantic.”
Smiling, Adil responded: “Exactly! She keeps going. Eight engagements she’s had?”
Susanna exclaimed: “Yes! She’s had a couple of marriages.”
Adil remarked with a laugh: “And she keeps going and says this is the one – apparently.”
Susanna insisted: “You’re right! And we’ll ask how she knows that a little bit later. But we’re really looking forward to talking to them later.”
Katie announced that she was getting engaged to boyfriend Carl in April – just one month after ex Kieran Hayler revealed that he had popped the question to his partner Michelle Pentecost.
The former glamour model, 42, and Kieran – her third husband after Peter Andre and Alex Reid – tied the knot in 2013 and they split in 2018.
A few days after Kieran announced his own engagement, he revealed that they were expecting their first child together.
Michelle already has a son Valentino from a previous relationship and the happy blended family will now be gaining another member in August.
Kieran told his Instagram followers: “So that’s it the news is out!!!! We are having a baby!!!!!! could not be any prouder of Michelle and the way she has battled through the morning sickness, it’s been horrendous for her at times.
“Being a dad is the biggest achievement in my life and to get the chance to do it all again I could not be any happier.
“There is no feeling like it. Being able to share this experience with Jett, Bunny and Valentino is incredible and they are so excited for the next step in our family’s journey.”
Following the latter’s appearance on Celebrity Mastermind last weekend, Susanna Reid, 50, claimed her co-star could’ve answered more questions if they hadn’t been so long. Good Morning Britain viewers were quick to suggest the presenter is also somebody who asks long questions when interviewing guests on the show.
“#GMB Susanna is very long winded with her questions more than usual today sounds like [Robert] Peston,” one viewer wrote.
A second commented: “Susanna Reid’s questions are so long they need to be broken down into chapters.”
“God almighty @susannareid100 ask the questions quicker you go on & on time will run out,” a third added.
“Susanna the woman that asks the longest questions in history during interviews, chastising the length of the Mastermind questions..the irony,” a fourth wrote.

Fans have since called for the controversial journalist to return to the show amid reports viewing figures have plummeted.
One Twitter user commented: “I miss @piersmorgan on @GMB these interviews just aren’t the same without him.”
Another wrote: “@piersmorgan I miss you so so so so so so much. #gmb #goodmorningbritain.”
His son Spencer also tweeted: “Be honest, you’re missing @piersmorgan right now, aren’t you?”
Following his departure, Piers said he had to agree to disagree with ITV over his Meghan comments.
“A) I don’t care about liked B) No journalist should care about being liked,” he retorted.
Most recently, the GMB star and his 27-year-old son Spencer received death threats from trolls on Instagram earlier this month.
The journalist was told to watch his back as he was a “marked man”, who is going to be “killed”, whereas Spencer was also targeted, in a post that read: “Watch your back @Spencermorgan if you don’t get your dad, your getting it or your mum is.”(sic)
Piers announced that he was taking the threats seriously and police are currently investigating the case to try and track down the IP address belonging to the culprit.
