Apex Legends Chaos Theory, Season 8 patch notes, Switch release and Solo queue

New Apex Legends Season 8 Chaos Theory patch notes have been released today, and it confirms some big changes coming to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

From what has been shared so far by Respawn, March 9 will include the start of a new event.

The Chaos Theory Collection Event will add a new rewards track, boasting fresh cosmetics, this time featuring legendary Kraber and EVA-8 weapon skins.

According to Respawn, gamers will be able to earn 1,000 points per day, and challenges refresh daily.

Stretch challenges will focus on the hardcore fanbase, which will reward four unique badges if completed during the event. These challenges also stack with an existing Battle Pass so that you can complete multiple at once.

The Apex Legends Chaos Theory event also introduces a brand new set of 24 themed, event-limited cosmetics.

A message from Respawn confirms: “Inspired by the warriors of the Frontier, our Legends are donning fierce new looks as they drop into the arena.

“All 24 items will be available through direct purchase (for Apex Coins or Crafting Metals) and in Event Apex Packs for the entire duration of the event. If you collect all 24 event items, you’ll unlock the Bangalore Heirloom set.

“Bangalore took this Pilot’s knife off a cold-blooded opponent. Since that day, she’s made it her own.

“After the event ends, the Bangalore Heirloom will become available via heirloom crafting. A few more nitty gritty details on how this Collection Event will work: First, the crafting costs for the skins are returning to their regular pricing now that the Anniversary Collection Event has ended.”

Today’s Apex Legends Season 8 patch notes also revealed that other big changes are happening to existing characters.

The big highlight is for Caustic players, with the Nox Gas Grenade cooldown increasing from 2.5 minutes to 3.5 minutes.

And Nox Gas damages will also start using a flat rate of 5hp per tick instead of ramping up from 6hp → to 12hp.

The development team explained to fans this week: “Caustic is brutally effective at slowing down engagements. The entirety of his kit revolves around gas with a large area of effect, slow, vision obstruction, and direct health damage. It’s proven to be too oppressive in too many scenarios, especially considering teammates can play in gas relatively unimpaired.

“Significantly reducing gas damage (without taking it away completely or having it affect armour instead) seems like a fair compromise that stays true to the character while making him less oppressive on the receiving end.

“We will be monitoring the data and gameplay closely. If these changes hit Caustic’s appeal or effectiveness too hard, we will revisit accordingly.”

Respawn has also confirmed that the launch of Apex Legends’ next update will bring new options to the game.

While Respawn isn’t going as far as offering a new Apex Solo Queue, they provide a new no-fill matchmaking option.

No-Fill Matchmaking will make it possible to play the game as a solo Legend, but it will come with some hefty challenges.

In the lobby, you’ll now see a checkbox entitled “Fill Matchmaking” and this will lead to the matchmaking system attempting to fill your squad to Duos or Trios, whichever you queued for.

Unchecking this box and clicking Play will send your party into your selected playlist without filling your team with other players.

And one of the biggest updates coming to the Apex Legends platform will be the launch of the Nintendo Switch version, scheduled as part of the March 9 patch.

Switch players will be given 30 free levels for their Season 8 Battle Pass, as they are getting a few weeks into the Season.

And for the first two weeks after launch, playing Apex Legends on Switch will also earn you double XP.

Genshin Impact 1.4 release date livestream revealed, Venti Banner update coming soon

A big livestream event has been announced as part of Mihoyo’s plans to release Genshin Impact 1.4.

The new update is reportedly arriving later this month but an official release date has yet to be confirmed.

That could all change this weekend during a new streaming event that will be sharing the latest on Genshin 1.4.

According to the latest news from the Chinese-based team, a new Genshin Impact livestream is being hosted on Saturday, March 6.

Like with previous events, Mihoyo is expected to host a Chinese-language stream, with another uploaded in English going live afterwards.

For now, we only know that a Genshin Impact livestream focusing on the 1.4 version of the game will be going live on March 6 at 8pm CST.

More news regarding the Genshin Impact English Livestream schedule is expected in the coming days.

And a wealth of new information regarding the game is expected to be shared during the event this weekend.

The official Genshin Impact 1.4 release date will be announced, and will also focus on new and returning character banners coming to the game.

This will include Venti and Jean, although last-minute changes and tweaks are always possible.

Genshin Impact’s Windblume Festival is also expected to be featured during the livestream event, which currently doesn’t have a runtime.

To watch the new Genshin Impact stream, gamers are being advised to wait until the official video is posted to the game’s official YouTube Channel.

However, the discussion will be held beforehand on miHoYo’s official Bilibili page.

The new version of the game is expected to drop mid-March, and data miners believe that Venti will be a big part of it, with Rosaria making her debut as a four-star.

This would mean a change of pace for MiHoYo and a potential slowdown in the number of new five-star characters coming to the game over the coming weeks.

However, it should be noted that this remains unconfirmed at this time, and we will have to wait for more news from the development team.

A recent Q&A with the Mihoyo team has provided further information on what new and improved features will be coming as part of Genshin 1.4.

Answering fan questions, the Genshin team confirmed that the Condensed Resin cap is being increased, alongside other improvements to the current Resin system.

Here’s what we know will be changing after the Genshin Impact 1.4 release date:

“In Version 1.4, the maximum amount of Condensed Resin that you can have at once will be increased! We will discuss this in detail during the Version 1.4 Sneak Peek Livestream.

“Resin notifications have been improved in Version 1.4. If you have Condensed Resin in your inventory when entering a Domain, you will no longer receive a notification about having insufficient Resin.

“In Version 1.3, the maximum Adventure Rank is 60. In Version 1.4, excess Adventure EXP gained after hitting Adventure Rank 60 will be converted into Mora.

And for those who recently increased their World Level to continue leveling their Adventure Rank and regret it, Mihoyo teased: “We have already created a solution.

“We will explain our plan for adjustments to all Travelers during the Version 1.4 Sneak Peek Livestream.”

Diablo 2 Resurrected Alpha comes with a big release date warning

The first of two Diablo 2 Resurrected Alpha tests will be kicking off this year, and gamers can choose to opt-in right now.

However, with so much buzz surrounding the return of the remastered classic, Blizzard is also warning that fake D2 Alphas are being shared online.

According to Blizzard community development lead Adam Fletcher, misleading information regarding fake Diablo 2 Resurrected giveaways are being shared online.

The purpose of these new scams is unknown but are likely being set up so they can steal data from those thinking they are legitimate.

Fletcher shared the warning on Twitter, telling gamers that the only way to join the Diablo 2 Resurrected Alpha is to sign up on the official website.

So any offers of getting early access or getting an Alpha code in any other way should be ignored.

Fletcher posted this week: “Just a heads-up to everyone interested in Diablo II: Resurrected and the Tech Alpha…

Don’t fall for scams. I’ve seen numerous places state they are running contests or giving away access. That isn’t true. Best way to get in is to opt-in on http://Diablo2.com!”

And it’s likely that more scams will surface in the lead up to the official Diablo 2 Resurrected Alpha release date.

There has been no word on when the first tests will be taking place, or how long they might last

To opt-in and have a chance to play the Alpha, gamers will need to set up a Battle Net account.

But it’s unclear at this point which platforms will host the upcoming testing phase, and if it will be limited to PC platforms.

Diablo 2 Resurrected is scheduled to launch this year, meaning we should see the first Alpha test pop up in the coming months.

The best part of the new announcement is that D2 will be launching later this year on Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

That’s a huge number of platforms to cover and means there will be plenty of room for the community to grow and play the game on whatever platform they think best.

“Diablo II was a pivotal game for Blizzard and millions of players around the world. With Diablo II: Resurrected, we’re excited to bring this classic back to PC and also to consoles – with cross-progression on supported platforms – so that players can relive their memories, or experience Diablo II’s timeless gameplay for the first time, on their platform of choice,’ said J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment.

“With the new high-resolution audio and video in Diablo II: Resurrected, the game is as fun and engrossing today as it was twenty years ago.”

For those who would prefer a more nostalgic experience, players will be able to freely switch back-and-forth between the modern graphics and the original experience at any time with the press of a button.

And while Diablo II: Resurrected may look like an all-new game, Diablo II’s signature gameplay and systems are completely intact, quirks and all, adding a few highly requested quality of life improvements, such as a shared stash.

Bad news for Xbox Game Pass fans in March ahead of Games with Gold release

The Xbox Game Pass is losing some well-known titles during the month of March, around the same time as the next Games with Gold update.

The good news is that it isn’t one of the new Xbox Series X exclusives, with the likes of Gears 5 and The Medium sticking around.

But fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be disappointed to find out that the popular open-world adventure is disappearing on March 16.

The Witcher 3 will be removed alongside other popular titles, including Alvastia Chronicles, Astrologaster, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Kona.

The Witcher has been available for over a year on Xbox Game Pass but here’s the description if you’ve never played it before:

“A story-driven, next-generation open world role-playing game set in a visually stunning fantasy universe full of meaningful choices and impactful consequences. You are professional monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia, tasked with finding a child of prophecy in a vast world rich with merchant cities, pirate islands, dangerous mountain passes, and forgotten caverns to explore.”

March 16 will also be the same day that the new Games with Gold titles are released for this month, with these games coming next:

Vicious Attack Llama Apocalypse

Prepare your thumbs for a frantic top-down, couch co-op, twin-stick shooter like no other. Remotely pilot an endless supply of mechs to fight through the vast llama horde apocalypse.

Featuring 1 to 4 player co-op, a massive, changing city to explore, and Xbox Play Anywhere functionality including on your PC, take down the Llamanati and pray that Llamazon blesses you.

Port Royale 3

It’s the turbulent 17th Century, and you are a young sea captain whose only goal is to be the most powerful man in the New World.

To achieve your goal, either choose to be a trader – developing trade routes to earn fortune, glory, and power; or become an adventurer – plundering, invading, and leading your ships in beautiful 3D naval battles. Set sail on 16 different ships, from versatile frigates to powerful galleons, and build your empire in the Caribbean.

It wasn’t all gloom and doom for Xbox Game Pass owners, with Microsoft confirming that a new game has just been released.

For those NFL fans missing the season, you can download and play Madden 21 today on Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

“On the road to the Super Bowl, anything can happen. It’s where superstars become legends, and MVPs become cover stars. Just ask Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and the legendary Shaun Alexander. Cement your legacy on the game’s biggest stage, and carry your Ultimate Team, Franchise modes, and The Yard progress across generations.”

Other games recently added to the service include Elite Dangerous, which was released late last month.

Elite Dangerous allows gamers to take control of their own starship in an MMO galaxy, with plenty of extra DLC available to check out if you enjoy the base experience.

Valorant Prime 2.0 skins as Karambit Knife steals the show before release

Riot Games has announced the launch of Valorant Prime 2.0, an official upgrade on the original designs launched by the studio.

The good news is that all of these new 2.0 Prime designs will be going live this week, complete with standout choices.

Riot Games describes Prime 2.0 as the 2021 evolution of the original Prime set that players saw last year, this time focusing on the themes of modern luxury

This means brand new models but it also includes upgraded features that are already catching player interest.

Riot Games has confirmed that there will be new exhaust ports for additional firing effects, while the set has also expanded its gun selection, which boasts not just a Phantom but also a karambit-style melee.

Riot Games has confirmed that Valorant Prime 2.0 will be going live on Tuesday, March 2, around the same time Episode 2 Act 2 starts.

It should be noted that start times and dates could end up being different depending on where you live in the world and what servers you play on.

Speaking about the launch of Prime 2.0, Sean Marino, Art Lead on Valorant, revealed that this might not be the end, although there are no set plans for new sets.

Commenting on the chances of further sets in the future, Marino explained: “We don’t have any planned right now. Prime//2.0 and Glitchpop were sets that were very obvious choices for us to make more skins for. However, we’re still gathering player feedback before we decide to commit to making more skins for an existing skin line.”

Meanwhile, Chris Stone, Senior Weapons Artist, shared this on the design challenges of Prime 2.0, revealing:

“We took inspiration from many hypercar designs that you’d see in the Geneva Motor Show. Specifically, the exhaust ports and FX interaction on the side of the guns was inspired by car exhaust backfire on high-end cars.

“We also wanted to make this skin line feel more aggressive than the original Prime set, so we relied on more angular shapes in the model design as well as emissive elements that spanned from the front to the rear of the weapon.

“Of course, players have been asking for a karambit-style melee for a while. We thought this was a great opportunity to put our own spin on it by creating a unique high-end karambit with some unique equip animations, while still preserving that classic karambit interaction through the inspect.”

Prime 2.0 will include the following weapons:

  • Phantom
  • Frenzy
  • Bucky
  • Odin
  • Melee (Karambit)
And the level design will run in this order:

  • Level 1 – Custom Model, ADS reticle, and ejectable bullets
  • Level 2 – Custom muzzle flash and firing audio; visual effects through gun’s vents and eyes on bull light up when firing
  • Level 3 – Custom equip animation with visual effects and audio; custom inspect audio
  • Level 4 – Kill Banner and Finisher
  • Level 5 – Gold Variant
  • Level 6 – Green Variant
  • Level 7 – Red Variant

Melee

  • Level 1 – Custom Model
  • Level 2 – Custom equip animation with visual effects and audio; custom swipe VFX and audio; custom inspect audio.

According to the latest pricing guides set out by Riot Games, buying the full bundle will cost 7,100 VP. Individual purchases will run to 1,775 VP per gun skin and 3,550 VP for the melee, with the Karambit a standout addition for gamers discussing the new launch online.

Genshin Impact Hu Tao Banner release date and event time news for March

Not only can fans look forward to the release of the Hu Tao Banner, including Genshin Impact’s next five-star character, but there’s also plenty of new content coming before update 1.4.

While the game’s next big patch isn’t expected to arrive until later this month, developer MiHoYo has revealed more four-star characters to accompany Hu Tao’s release.

Plenty of Genshin Impact fans will be gunning to get hold of Hu Tao during the next big Banner event, but there will also be Xiangling, Chongyun and Xingqiu beefing up the four-star ranks.

Meanwhile, Mihoyo will be launching a new story event on the same day that Hu Tao hits Genshin Impact servers.

The “Papilio Charontis Chapter” Story Quest Overview explains: “After reaching the corresponding Adventure Rank and completing the prerequisite quests, Travelers can use a Story Key to unlock Hu Tao’s Story Quest, “Papilio Charontis Chapter.”

“After reaching Adventure Rank 26 and unlocking the Story Quest feature, Travelers can obtain Story Keys by completing Daily Commissions. One Story Key will be granted for every eight Daily Commissions completed.”

This goes live at the same time as Genshin Impact Hu Tao Banner, with the Event Wish “Moment of Bloom” offering Boosted Drop Rate for the new character.

WHEN IS HU TAO COMING TO GENSHIN IMPACT?

According to developers Mihoyo, Genshin Impact’s Hu Tao Banner event has a release date scheduled for Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

MiHoyo adds that the Hu Tao release time has been set for 6pm server time, which probably means late afternoon (3pm to 7pm GMT) in the UK.

The Hu Tao Banner event will run until March 16 and will likely end closer to moring time in the UK.

The good news for gamers hoping to add Hu Tao to their collection this month is that the new character will be a specialised Pyro wielder, who will also be able to deplete to dish out more elemental damage.

“She walks the line between life and death, shouldering responsibilities unknown to most mortals. Be careful around Hu Tao, lest she leads you by the nose.”

Hu Tao will be one of the last major Banner events before the release of Genshin Impact 1.4.

The new version of the game is expected to drop mid-March, and data miners believe that Venti could be making a return afterwards, with Rosaria making her debut as a four-star.

This would mean a change of pace for MiHoYo and a potential slowdown in the number of new five-star characters coming to the game over the coming weeks.

However, it should be noted that this remains unconfirmed at this time, and we will have to wait for more news from the development team.

More news regarding upcoming plans are expected to be shared in the coming weeks, with the Genshin Hu Tao Banner the main focus for this week.

Elden Ring release date news: Light at the end of the tunnel for From Software fans

It looks like Elden Ring developer From Software is getting ready to reveal more about the upcoming adventure game.

A collaboration between From Software and Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, Elden Ring has been missing in action since it was unveiled during the 2019 E3 event.

Information has been so hard to come by that some fans believe it may have been cancelled.

Fortunately, however, a new report suggests that Elden Rings is about to make a comeback.

That’s according to industry insider Jason Schreier, who said that the game will be shown “relatively soon”.

“I know lots of people are desperate for Elden Ring news,” Schreier tweets.

“I don’t know much about it (except that it’s been delayed a bunch). But there is strong evidence floating around that the game will be shown relatively soon. It’s not going to pull a Winds of Winter. Elden Ring has pages.”

There are even reports that Elden Ring will make an appearance during an imminent Xbox gaming event in March.

However, Microsoft has since denied the rumours, telling fans that no such event is planned for March.

“Just to set expectations: this is not happening,” Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg reveals. “There are always things we have in the works, but nothing coming soon that would feature game announcements or world premieres like this.”

Recent leaks suggest that Elden Ring will take inspiration from Norse and Celtic mythology.

The gameplay is said to be similar to previous From Software games such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne, although the world will be much bigger.

Elden Ring is said to have dynamic weather and a full day/night cycle, which means you could begin a battle in sunshine, before the weather changes to thunder and lightning.

It sounds like there will be at least two factions to side with, including a race of giants with red hair (as seen in the trailer), and another with white hair.

What we do know for sure about Elden Ring is that the fantasy adventure game is a collaboration between From Software’s Hidetaka Miyazaki and Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.

“Unparalleled adventure awaits in Elden Ring, the next epic fantasy title created by From Software, Inc. and Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc,” reads the official description.

“Elden Ring is From Software’s largest game to-date and is set in a sprawling realm steeped in a rich and bloody history crafted by Hidetaka Miyazaki – creator of the influential and critically acclaimed DARK SOULS video game series; and George R.R. Martin – author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire.”

Rumours suggest it will be released this spring, which means we should get some official information in the coming weeks and months.

GTA 6 release date success boosted by Grand Theft Auto on PS5 and Xbox Series X

And the continuing success of GTA 5 and GTA Online could be connected directly to how well GTA 6 will turn out.

And with at least 12 to 18 months to wait until a next-gen launch for Rockstar Games’ next big project, there will be plenty of time for GTA Online to expand further.

From what has been shared so far, the PS5 and Xbox Series X version of GTA 5 will be arriving in the second half of 2021.

This will give Rockstar the chance to build a truly next-gen version of GTA 6, even if that means waiting longer for a release date.

The downside to this is that gamers will have to wait much longer to play Grand Theft Auto 6 than first expected.

And analysts have backed the strategy, believing that it will only help make GTA 6 an exceptional game.

The only thing to note is that GTA 5 Online will need to continue to bring in new players and retain old ones to give Rockstar the breathing room to complete the new GTA game.

Recent evidence suggests that the development team will probably get the extra time needed, with GTA 5 having one of its best years yet.

2020 saw Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One sell 20 million copies, which tops its own records set since 2013.

Becoming a staple on consoles and PC alike has helped propel it to new heights on Twitch and YouTube, too, with role-playing servers taking over from other trends.

And with GTA 5 arriving on PS5 and Xbox Series X in the coming months, the stage is set for continued success on new platforms.

As pointed out by Seeking Alpha, GTA Online could be the key to Rockstar finishing GTA 6 to the best degree, explaining in a new report:

“GTA 5’s success will give Rockstar the leeway to truly push the boundaries on what is technically feasible for GTA 6.

“The fact that GTA 5 continues to be a money-printing machine means that Rockstar will be able to take all the resources and time it needs to perfect GTA 6.

“Take-Two, unlike many other companies, will not need to push out an imperfect or even broken product like so many of its competitors have.

“GTA 6 is perhaps the most anticipated video game of all time, which is not surprising given GTA’s huge fanbase and Rockstar’s reputation for truly innovative and groundbreaking releases.

“Moreover, the large time gap between the release of GTA 5 and the impending release of GTA 6 means that GTA 6 will likely be a far superior product in terms of realism, graphics, and AI.

Rockstar will almost certainly push the limits of what is possible as it has done with nearly all its previous major releases. Given that GTA 6 is undoubtedly the company’s most important title to date, there is no telling how much money and effort will go into the game’s development. While Take-Two has yet to announce the release date of GTA 6, the growing hype for the title is palpable.”

Hopes are still high that Rockstar will reveal GTA 6 this year but recent predictions suggest the game won’t arrive until at least 2022.
