League of Legends event guide: Sentinels of Light skins and Akshan release date

Things have already kicked off in League of Legends today as part of the new Sentinels of Light event.

But while there’s plenty to check out right now, more is being planned over the weeks to come.

The main draw will be Askan, a new LoL champion who will be making his debut later this month.

Developers Riot Games has decided to make this a crossover event, meaning that Askan the Rogue Senitial will not be limited to just League.

Akshan, the Rogue Sentinel, is Riot’s first champion releasing across all League-universe games during the same event.

He swings into the fight against Ruination with a sacred relic weapon, exacting vengeance on enemies and redeeming fallen allies.

The new LoL Champions isn’t playable yet in his final but does have a pretty nifty event schedule to follow.

According to the latest guides from Riot Games, this is when Akshan releases on the following dates:

  • Legends of Runeterra on July 14
  • Teamfight Tactics on July 21
  • League of Legends on July 22 (including a Cyber Pop Akshan skin)
  • League of Legends: Wild Rift on July 27 (including a Battle Academia Akshan skin).

With Askan dropping into League of Legends later this month, it will be worth checking out all the stuff that can be enjoyed today.

The new in-client story experience, “Rise of the Sentinels”, gives players a way to experience League’s story through the eyes of a rookie member of the Sentinels as lasting change comes to the world of Runeterra.

During the experience, players will travel across Runeterra to recruit new allies and battle against Viego.

And it should also be noted that like other parts of this new League event, Rise of the Sentinels releases in weekly chapters, with players completing in-game missions to progress through it.

The good news is that Rise of the Sentinels is free to play, so players can fully experience the story without having to pay, and there will be a total of 11 new skins to check out. The 11 new, in-canon skins showcase champions as they appear in Rise of the Sentinels and will follow the following release schedule:

July 8:

  • Sentinel Vayne (Legendary), Sentinel Olaf, Sentinel Irelia, Sentinel Riven, and Sentinel Diana
  • Ruined Pantheon

July 22:

  • Sentinel Graves (Legendary), Sentinel Pyke, and Sentinel Rengar
  • Ruined Miss Fortune

July 29:

  • Unbound Thresh (Event shop exclusive for initial launch)
  • An event-exclusive Ascended Pantheon Prestige Edition skin depicts an alternate timeline where the human spirit inside Pantheon overcomes Ruination.

Riot Games has also revealed Ultimate Spellbook, League’s first new event game mode since 2018, which also releases during Sentinels of Light. Each player gains a second champion’s Ultimate ability to use throughout the game in addition to their own.

Genshin Impact 2.0 livestream release date surprise with Genshin codes

By normal standards, Mihoyo is expected to share its plans for Genshin Impact 1.7, which is expected to launch later this month.

But recent reports and rumours suggest that there could be bigger plans afoot that will give fans a lot more information than expected.

This could even extend to Mihoyo dumping plans for a 1.7 patch and going straight to Genshin Impact 2.0.

And while this might sound like a major jump, gamers on PS4, Mobile and PC should be aware that this won’t mean missing out on anything.

What it does mean is that Mihoyo is reportedly planning one of the biggest updates they have ever launched.

This means that there will be more than talk about the next Banner and characters, and perhaps there will even be news for Switch gamers.

Mihoyo has promised that Genshin Impact will arrive on the Nintendo Switch console in the future, and this week’s presentation would make for the perfect time to share an update on how that is going.

Mihoyo might also take the opportunity to release more free codes than usual, as Genshin 2.0 is going to be such a big update.

This could include new tie-ins with the Twitch platform, which will be hosting the main Genshin livestream this week.

As usual, gamers will need to take these reports with a pinch of salt until we hear more from official sources.

And the good news is that fans won’t be waiting long to find out everything in the next Genshin Impact livestream.

Developers MiHoYo has revealed that the Genshin Impact 2.0 livestream – or whatever name they give it – start time has been scheduled for July 9, at 1pm BST on Twitch.

The message from Mihoyo adds: “Dear Travelers, The Genshin Impact Preview will premiere on the official Twitch channel at 8:00 AM (UTC-4) on July 9th – https://twitch.tv/genshinimpactofficial.

“The official YouTube channel will release the recording on July 9 at 12:00 PM (UTC-4) https://youtube.com/c/GenshinImpact.”

This means you will also have the option of waiting until later to view the full event on YouTube.

Expected to arrive around July 16, the next major game expansion already has plenty of leaked information being shared online.

While Kazuha became the first character to arrive from Inazuma, they won’t be the last, with plenty more being planned.

Both Yoimiya and Ayaka look set to join him later this month, and the wait time could be very short.

Ayaka has been leaked as a five-star character who will be a Cryo sword user with plenty to offer any roster.

She is expected to debut soon after the next Genshin update is launched, perhaps as early as July 21.

Recent reports also indicate that developers Mihoyo are thinking about making some map changes with Genshin 2.0, which extends to changing the lineup of monsters in certain areas.

The full release date for Genshin Impact 2.0 will be announced on July 9, alongside a new list of codes.

Some of the most recent codes released by Mihoyo include the following:

  • GENSHINGIFT – 50 Primogems and Three Hero Wits.
  • GENSHINGALAXY – 10,000 Mora and other items.
  • GENSHINEPIC – 10,000 Mora and other items.
  • GS6ACJ775KNV – 60 Primogems and 10,000 Mora.

PUBG Mobile 1.5 update time ahead of Season 20 Royale Pass release date

And with the next PUBG Mobile update arriving very soon, it won’t be long before everyone is scrambling to install the new patch.

Plenty of new content is being planned, including new vehicles to ride, weapons to wield and game-winning features to check out.

As many fans will already know, PUBG Mobile is only available in certain regions officially, meaning many have been unable to keep up with the latest updates.

However, this week has seen the launch of Battlegrounds Mobile in India, a revamped version of PUBG Mobile that offers much of the same gameplay.

The Early Access for the game started on 17 June 2021 and saw plenty of support from the community, with 20 million players trying out the game and providing valuable feedback.

“KRAFTON is delighted to introduce BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA for our fans in India. Designed exclusively for our Indian fans and gamers, BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA will provide a premier gaming experience,” said CH Kim, CEO of KRAFTON, Inc.

“This is just the beginning of a series of new content, collaborations and esports tournaments coming your way, and we will strive to ensure that our fans and community in India can fully enjoy the Battlegrounds experiences.”

Meanwhile, this week will see the release of the next major PUBG Mobile update, with patch 1.5 scheduled to arrive in less than 24-hours time for some.

According to the latest reports, PUBG Mobile update 1.5 will become downloadable on Thursday, July 8.

It will be up to Tencent to announce exactly when the new patch is available to install on Android and iOS devices, so there could be a longer wait if one is needed.

The Battlegrounds version of PUBG that is available to play in India is also expected to be updated at around the same time, although fans will need to wait for more information to be shared.

Based on previous releases, we expect the PUBG Mobile update time to be set for around 1:30am BST in the UK.

This will include new information on features like the Winning-Moment Photo Function, which makes it possible to snap what happened in the final moments of your match.

PUBG Mobile update 1.5 will also include new Hyperlines for gamers to use as transport, an Anti-gravity motorcycle, which we assume will function much like normal ones, and the MG3 Gun.

The one big difference that gamers will instantly notice when riding the Anti-grav bike is that it won’t be limited by the terrain.

According to the latest reports, the Anti-Grav tech will make it possible to hover over water, which is bound to change a lot of strategies in the game.

More PUBG Mobile news is expected in the coming hours from Krafton and developers Tencent.

Fallout 76 update time: Steel Reign release date and patch notes before expansion launch

Bethesda has big plans for Fallout 76: Steel Reign, including the final chapter in the Brotherhood of Steel story.

From what has been shared so far, gamers can expect new quests and a new Legendary Crafting system, which will allow fans to turn normal weapons, Armor and Power Armor, into Legendary items.

A big part of this will be Legendary Cores, which you will use alongside Legendary Modules to make changes to your items.

Legendary Cores can be earned by completing Seasonal Events, Public Events, and Daily Ops.

Bethesda has also confirmed that Wasteland survivors will upgrade Power Armor pieces by visiting Power Armor Stations.

While Legendary Crafting is a big part of Steel Reign, there will be story aspects and quests to discover, with Bethesda telling fans:

“In Steel Dawn, we met the members of the Appalachian chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel. Through our journey, we discovered that some members had disagreements with how the Appalachian chapter should be run.

“In a thrilling conclusion, all disagreements had to be set aside in order to team up against one common enemy.

“However, the issue of how to run the Appalachian chapter still remains and cannot be ignored. Your choices from Steel Dawn will impact this final chapter.

“In Steel Reign, you’ll explore new areas in locations such as the Uncanny Caverns, West Tek, AMS HQ and more. Earn new rewards such as the Face Breaker Power Fist, Mercenary Outfit, Brotherhood Civvies, Cryogenic Bed, and Hellcat Power Armor. You’ll also see some new and familiar faces during your journey.”

Here are some of the other details about what is coming during July in Fallout 76:

  • Legendary Cores- Craft all-new Legendary gear from Power Armor to Weapons using Legendary Cores
  • Power Armor Displays- Show off your favourite Power Armor skins to everyone that visits your C.A.M.P.
  • Power Armor Skins- Give into the MIND Collective and sport a unified look with new Power Armor Paints.
  • Weapons Skins- Melt your enemies with the Valorous Alistair Gatling Plasma skin or slice them down with Alistair’s Sword.
  • C.A.M.P. Objects- No more cleaning your clothes in the river, claim the Washer and Dryer set for your humble abode.
  • Red Rocket Collectron- Complete your garage with the Red Rocket Collectron, who will tirelessly search the Wasteland for auto parts.

According to developers Bethesda, the Fallout 76 Steel Reign update will be going live after maintenance which starts at 3pm BST.

For gamers in the United States, the same maintenance will begin at 10am EDT across PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms.

We don’t have an exact time for when Fallout 76 Steel Reign will be playable but we would expect servers to be back online by 7pm BST.

More news is expected to be shared by Bethesda during the Fallout 76 maintenance period, including how long the downtime will continue.

Here are a few changes that Bethesda has also confirmed for Fallout 76 this week:

PS5 Restock UK: Game PS5 stock release countdown, with Amazon and Argos next

The next major PS5 stock drop is expected to happen on Thursday, July 8, with thousands of consoles possibly releasing simultaneously.

That’s the latest news from leading stock tracker accounts, with new predictions also being made for Argos and Amazon UK for later in July.

From what has been shared so far, GAME will be the next UK retailer to offer buying options.

Like most of the information shared, this comes as a prediction from a third-party source, meaning it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.

But based on the track record from the likes of PS5 Stock Alert on Twitter, it will be worth being ready on July 8.

A message shared by PS5 Stock Alert on Twitter reads: “GAME has confirmed a new date for the PlayStation 5.

“If you select Priority Insured delivery, your order will be shipped by the 14th July, all other delivery methods will be shipped by the 21st July. We expect GAME to go live 8th July.”

So anyone hoping to buy a console this week should be prepared on Thursday, starting at 8am BST.

Other options are also expected to be available this week, including buying PlayStation 5 consoles in-store.

The best thing to do will be to check out your local GAME stores on Twitter or by calling them directly to see if they have any plans for stock this week.

Both Argos and Amazon UK have been connected to stock drops in July; however, they will not be ready to offer any shipments this week.

Instead, Argos is expected to release its stock around July 16, with PS5 Stock Alert UK suggesting that it will have another 10,000 units to sell.

Some of these will be shared with other regions, and it’s unclear if more will be switched between online and in-store.

And it should be noted that Amazon isn’t expected to do the same until around July 14.

Knowing when a PS5 restock is happening can be vital, but it’s also worth finding out how each retailer handles its shipments.

And here are a few examples of how best to try and buy a PlayStation 5 console from leading UK retailers:

AMAZON UK: Amazon UK runs better under strain but still comes with a few kinks worth mentioning. Having an account set up with your card details is a good start, and gamers should also try adding a console to their wishlist before checking out. More stock is expected during July.

ARGOS: The Argos website is notorious for crashing and being unable to complete purchases when site traffic is high. Stock trackers suggest using the mobile Argos app and keeping an eye on local store listings.

GAME: GAME is a UK retailer that offers the most regular stock updates for PS5 consoles. However, console hunters have been warned to use Guest Checkout, as this option is less likely to crash when completing a purchase. The next PS5 stock update is expected to start in early July.

Valorant 3.01 release time and patch notes news as Riot delays update

Riot Games has confirmed that the delayed 3.01 patch for Valorant will be arriving later today, July 7.

The development team chose to push back the update due to the 4th of July celebrations taking place in North America.

And there is good reason to make such a decision as it means that the full Valorant team can deal with any issues with the upcoming patch.

The good news is that we do know that today will see the new Valorant 3.01 released across all platforms.

There is a good chance that there will be a delay between the Valorant patch going live in North America and the same patch arriving on European servers.

The latest details shared by Riot Games reads: “Patch 3.01 goes out tomorrow (July 7). Expect the usual patch times based on your region.”

Based on what has been shared above, we would expect the Valorant 3.01 patch to land during the morning in North America.

With that in mind and taking references from past launches, the Valorant release time could be set for around 6am PDT.

This will be followed by a wider release, if there are no issues flagged with the current build.

Valorant 3.01 is not expected to offer any new content due to the recent release of Episode 3 Act 1.

But while it won’t be as exciting as trying out a new Agent, gamers can expect some important bug fixes to be included.

We don’t know exactly what they will be but fans will know what needs to be fixed to make Valorant easier to play.

A message from the Valorant patch notes reads: “When we think of VALORANT, we consider every map, weapon, and character to be a part of an ever-changing sandbox where you can use your skill and creativity to overcome any challenge you face.

“We believe VALORANT is at its best when you face a wide variety of unique challenges and are forced to make hard choices about tools and strategies you’ll use to overcome them.

“To that end, we have taken a pass at the entire economy of the game, changing weapon and ability prices so they better suit their impact on a match and allow players to create more dynamic, varied loadouts, and strategies.

“Game-spanning changes like these can be painful as we are asking you all to relearn many things that you’re now comfortable with.

“There will be times when you are forced to make harder choices about what you bring into battle each round or forced to engage with an opponent differently—but just know that your enemies are facing the same challenges.”

Gamers can expect full patch notes to be shared by Riot Games after today’s update has been released.

The next Samsung Galaxy Watch has been unmasked ahead of its release date

Samsung is widely-tipped to launch a new Galaxy Watch model, dubbed Galaxy Watch 4, this August. The next-generation model will be the first since Samsung confirmed plans to ditch its custom-designed TizenOS and pivot to the Google-created Wear OS. The latter, which is based on Android, will allow Samsung-branded wearables to work seamlessly with smartphones from a broad range of manufacturers.

The move could also trigger an influx of new applications for the form-factor since third-party developers will no longer need to build new software from the ground-up for Wear OS and TizenOS gadgets. A single app will work with smartwatches from Motorola, Fitbit, Google, and Samsung.

But while there’s plenty to get excited about around the software of the upcoming Galaxy Watch, little was known about the hardware. Until now, that is.

Yes, the latest leak has provided the best look yet at the as-yet-unannounced hardware. According to the source, speaking to Android Headlines, the model shown in the leaked images will be branded as Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. As the name suggests, this smartwatch will sport a design that harkens back to analogue watches.

The Watch 4 Classic will keep the rotating bezel that’s become one of the main calling cards of the Galaxy Watch range. This lets you scroll through menus and notifications without getting any greasy fingerprints on the touchscreen – which is very handy.

Helping with navigation around Wear OS are two large buttons on the right-side of the watch, which also help to make it look more like a conventional watch.

The accompanying report, which first appeared on Samsung-centric blog SamMobile, claims the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will arrive in three sizes: 42mm, 44mm and 46mm. All three sizes will be offered in either stainless steel, or aluminium. Presumably, the latter will be a more affordable option.

As always, any standard 20mm watch band will work with the design, so you can breathe new life into any old straps you’ve got.

There’s no word yet on pricing, but we’d expect the Galaxy Watch 4 to hit the same price point as its predecessor.

That means you’ll be able to get your hands on a smartwatch for around £349, with the optional 4G connectivity and larger screen sizes adding to the cost. With the Galaxy Watch 3, the 45mm 4G-compatible model topped out at around £409, so hopefully, prices won’t rise above that ceiling this time around either.

Samsung is tipped to hold its next Unpacked hardware event on August 11, 2021. As always, Express.co.uk will be in the crowd – either virtually or physically, dependent on the latest guidelines – and will bring you the latest news and opinion on the launch.

Nintendo Switch PRO is official: OLED model release date revealed and pre-order NEWS

The new and improved Nintendo Switch Pro has been officially announced by Nintendo.

The surprise announcement comes after months of rumours and speculation about powerful new Switch hardware.

The Nintendo Switch OLED Model has been given an October 8 release date, which means it will launch alongside Metroid Dread.

As the name suggests, the headline new feature is the OLED display, which will offer a more vibrant experience.

While the console itself will be similar in size to the existing model, the screen will measure in at 7-inches.

According to Nintendo, it will feature more vibrant colours and a higher contrast compared to the current Switch and Switch Lite.

Other improvements include a wider adjustable stand for tabletop mode, as well as a LAN port for improved online performance.

With 64BG of internal storage, the Nintendo Switch OLED Model can hold more games – although you’ll probably still need an SD card if you download lots of games.

Finally, Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch OLED Model will feature improved audio thanks to the beefier speakers.

Elsewhere, the stylish new console will launch with a brand new colour scheme, as well as the classic Neon Red and Neon Blue set-up.

Fans will be able to purchase a white model, complete with white Joy-Con controllers, a black main unit and a white dock.

At the time of writing, pre-orders are yet to go live, and Nintendo hasn’t announced the price of the console.

Express Online has contacted the company for confirmation about the price and pre-order dates.

Judging by the recent launches of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, it’s worth getting in early if you want to secure a console at launch.

Unlike the Switch Lite, the OLED Model will support both handheld and docked gameplay, meaning it can be played at home on the TV, and on the go.

“Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will let users experience enhancements in all three play modes,” Nintendo explains.

“TV mode: Place the Nintendo Switch (OLED model) console into the dock to play Nintendo Switch games on the TV. By using the built-in wired LAN port, users can enjoy another way to connect online in TV mode.

“Tabletop mode: Flip the stand on the back of the console and use the console’s screen to play multiplayer games using the two included Joy-Con controllers right out of the box. The wide adjustable stand makes for a solid and sturdy foundation. It also allows players to freely tilt the console with more range on the viewing angle, so it’s easier to see the screen.

“Handheld mode: Users can bring the console wherever they go in handheld mode and play local* or online** multiplayer with friends. The 7-inch OLED screen provides vivid colour and high contrast.”
