Neil Morrissey’s war on woke as Syndicate star dressed down Oxbridge elites running TV

The 58-year-old returns to screens tonight as part of the star-studded cast for season four of BBC drama The Syndicate. Alongside the likes of Inbetweeners’ actress Emily Head, YouTuber Joe Sugg and Coronation Street’s Kym Marsh, Morrissey delivers a stunning performance as the plot follows five members of a betting syndicate which wins the lottery. Morrissey is known throughout the generations, as he charmed audiences on The Night Manager, shocked viewers on Nineties sitcom Men Behaving Badly, and enchanted youngsters as the voice of Bob the Builder.
With a career spanning nearly four decades, which also saw him star in acclaimed drama Line of Duty, Morrissey could be expected to take a positive view on the TV industry.

Yet Morrissey, who was raised in a Stoke-on-Trent care home, recalled his continued frustration at the elites running the industry.

He noted that “when Oxbridge people are pumping a lot of money into a production, they want their own”.

The star said working class actors – like himself – were “always underrepresented” as it was “hard to sell a bunch of Northerners to an American network”.

This, Morrissey argued, was because people in the US consider Britons “to be slightly fey James Bond-ish types, not people who work in a factory”.

He added to the Radio Times: “I’ve met people with a massive education and almost zero intelligence; people who’ve been through Oxbridge but don’t know how to sew a hem or boil an egg.”

More recently, calls for Morrissey to return in his perhaps best known role as Tony Smart in Men Behaving Badly was ruled out by his co-star Martin Clunes – who claimed the “woke millennials” might not be ready to watch the characters back on the screen.

JUST IN: Neil Morrissey and Martin Clunes on Men Behaving Badly reunion rumours

“It would just be pretty hideous dirty old men talking about Kylie Minogue’s bottom!”

Ardent fans of the show have continued demands for the show to be welcomed back on screens, and three years ago Morrissey himself addressed claims it might be ready for a revamp.

He told viewers on Lorraine to get the programme’s creator Simon Nye on the show, if they really wanted answers over whether it could make a return.

Morrissey added: “If there’s a script – because in my game everything starts with a script – and if the script is good because Martin and I and Leslie have all said of course we’ll do it.

“So we need to get Simon Nye, nail him down and get him to write a series.”

The Syndicate airs tonight at 9pm on BBC One.

Stormi Webster, 3, Is So Cute Running Around For Easter Egg Hunt With KarJenner Cousins — Watch

Stormi, Chicago and True all looked adorable as they showed off their special Easter outfits in Palm Springs while hunting for chocolates!

Stormi Webster[1], 3, brought out her athletic side[2] for a high energy Easter egg hunt! Mom Kylie Jenner[3] captured all the action as the little girl ran around with cousins Chicago West[4], 3, True Thompson[5], 2, Saint West[6], 5, Reign Disick[7], 6 and rest of the clan. “Storm, there’s some in the tree!” Kylie encouraged, as little cousin Psalm West, 1, waddled by. “Go Psalmy! Get it booboo,” the makeup mogul then said. Stormi looked straight off the runway in her gorgeous yellow tulle dress.

The 3-year-old wasn’t the only kid in the family dressed for the occasion, as adorable cousin duo True and Chicago also brought their fashion A-Game. They looked so sweet as they showed off their pretty dresses for True’s mama Khloe Kardashian, 36. Kim Kardashian‘s daughter Chicago was an absolute doll in her sleveless peach colored dress which was adorned with ostrich feathers. “Happy Easter!” Chicago and True said in unison, as Khloe filmed the Instagram story, shared on Sunday, April 4. [8][9]

“Wanna do a twirl? Can I see your dress?” the Good American founder then asked Chicago behind the camera. “Wow ladies!” Khloe than gushed. Chicago was all ready for the hot Palm Springs weather in her fresh white slides, her hair styled back into a ponytail. True looked equally as cute in a trapeze style pink dress with a metallic finish. She added a matching pink pair of shoes, twinning with her cousin Chi in a ponytail. “There’s no cars!” she declared at one point, hanging onto what appeared to be a toy cow for the sunny stroll. Later, Stormi and Chicago posed for a photo with a visiting Easter bunny! [10]

The KarJenner clan have convened at Kris Jenner[11]‘s sprawling Palm Springs estate[12] for the Easter holiday, where the grandmother of ten has spared no expense! Kris pulled out all the stops to make the holiday extra special for her kids and grandkids, ordering custom gift baskets, desserts and more. Kylie posted a sweet photo of daughter Stormi checking out hers earlier in the day! It looked full of fun gifts, including a Barbie “Chelsea” doll. In another video, Kylie filmed a line up of the other baskets all donning the names of her nieces and nephews, including Psalm, Saint, and North — how sweet.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Easter without plenty of sweet treats[13]! Kris also brought in the cutest Easter bunny cakes from Los Angeles bakery Sweet E’s, owned by Sugar Rush star Erica Tucker. The dreamy spread included little duck cupcakes, Mini Egg Rice Krispie squares, sugar cookies, and more. As if that wasn’t enough, Kim revealed her mom had a family activity in-store for the day: golf lessons! Kris also ordered custom golf club sets from Callaway Golf. “Happy Easter!” she wrote alongside a post of the bags, thanking her friend Irving Azoff.

Natalie Portman, 39, Rocks Daisy Dukes While Running Errands In Australia — See Pic

While it is now autumn in Australia, Natalie Portman donned her Daisy Dukes for a warm outing in Sydney amid filming ‘Thor: Love and Thunder.’

Natalie Portman[1] has been looking right at home in Sydney, Australia as she shoots Thor: Love and Thunder[2] Down Under. The 39-year-old had a day off from filming on April 1, and she used it to run some errands around town. Natalie showed off her incredible, toned legs in a pair of Daisy Duke jean shorts[3], which she paired with a white Ghostbusters logo tee. She kept her feet comfy in black running shoes as she headed to her car after picking up lunch.

Natalie was completely makeup free and looked so naturally beautiful. She had her hair slightly wetted and pulled back in a loose bun behind her head. The Annihilation actress went completely accessory free, not even wearing her wedding ring. Other than her brown paper bag take out lunch, she carried a black and yellow patterned small tote.

Natalie looked so totally casual that she blended in with the daytime passers by on the street. She’s been a fixture in Sydney ever since arriving in the city on Sept. 1, 2020 to begin prepping for the highly anticipated new Marvel Comics Universe film. She flew in via private jet with her daughter[4] Amalia, 4, and son, Aleph, 9. Nearly seven months later, the Oscar winner is still Down Under and has made Sydney her home. Natalie is playing role of astrophysicist Jane Foster, who becomes a female Thor, in the fourth film of the saga starring Chris Hemsworth in the title role.

This isn’t the first time Natalie has worn a pair of Daisy Dukes[5] around the streets of Sydney. She wore a different pair in Nov. 2020 when the city was gripped by a triple digit temperature heatwave. Her short-shorts came in handy, as she paired the distressed denim with a white t-shirt featuring black palm tree prints on the left chest pocket. To brave the 102 degree temps, Natalie wore a straw fedora hat to protect her face and carried not one but two bottles of water to keep herself hydrated.

The actress and her husband, French choreographer Benjamin Millepied[6], 43, have been enjoying her stay in Australia. The pair just took a visit to the stunning Blue Mountains north west of Sydney, staying at the conservation-based resort One&Only Wolgan Valley. Natalie shared a photo of the couple, as she held Benjamin lovingly around his waist with both arms. He had his left arm over Natalie’s shoulder as the pair looked so in love with nature as their backdrop. She called her Black Swan choreographer and husband of eight years[7] her “favorite person” in the gorgeous snapshots she shared to Instagram on. Mar. 16. They even got to see wild kangaroos in a green field underneath a bright rainbow. Talk about magical!

Hourglass running out: Sand becoming scarce world over due to soaring demand

The world’s most consumed raw material after water and an essential ingredient to people’s everyday lives is slipping through our fingers, scientists warn. Sand may become a scarce resource due to high demand, they say.

“We just think that sand is everywhere. We never thought we would run out of sand, but it is starting in some places,” a climate scientist with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Pascal Peduzzi said during a webinar hosted by the Chatham House think tank.

“It is about anticipating what can happen in the next decade or so because if we don’t look forward, if we don’t anticipate, we will have massive problems about sand supply but also about land planning,” he added.

Peduzzi, who is the director of UNEP’s Global Resource Information Database in Geneva, Switzerland, described the global governance of sand resources as “the elephant in the room.”

“Is it time for panicking? Well, that will certainly not help, but it is time to take a look and change our perception about sand,” he said as quoted by CNBC.
Also on rt.com Countries around the world spent over $ 13 TRILLION to combat Covid-19 pandemic – report
According to Peduzzi, sand use could only be measured indirectly via a “very, very good” correlation between the use of sand and cement.

The UN estimates that 4.1 billion tons of cement is produced every year, driven primarily by China, which accounts for almost 60 percent of today’s sand-fueled construction boom.

Statistics show that it takes ten tons of sand to produce every ton of cement. This means that, for construction alone, the world consumes roughly 40 to 50 billion tons of sand on an annual basis. The amount is enough to build a wall 27 meters high by 27 meters wide that wraps around the planet every year.

The global rate of sand use has tripled over the last two decades, partially due to surging urbanization and industrialization. It far exceeds the natural rate at which sand is being replenished by the weathering of rocks by wind and water.

UNEP has previously warned of thriving “sand mafias,” saying that groups consisting of builders, dealers and businessmen are known to be operating in countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Kenya and Sierra Leone.
