Murder suspect dies at Travis County jail, investigation underway into death

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A suspect accused of murder died this weekend in the Travis County jail.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office reported that staff members found Anthony Ryan Lilley, 31, unresponsive in his cell Saturday morning at the Travis County Correctional Complex. Deputies said employees started CPR and called EMS, who also responded but ultimately could not revive Lilley.

Police arrested Lilley on June 15 following a shooting that killed Travis Ray Clements in southeast Austin.

The sheriff’s office stated an investigation into the in-custody death is underway by the Internal Affairs Unit, the Criminal Investigations Division, the Texas Rangers and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy happened Sunday, and the sheriff’s office said the final report is pending toxicology results.

What happened on Todd Lane, according to police

According to the Austin Police Department, a woman called 911 on June 11, saying she had been robbed and shot. When officers arrived at 4123 Todd Lane, police found the woman and her husband, Clements, shot. Clements was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:29 p.m., police say.

APD says the couple knew Lilley, and drove to the southeast Austin location with their three children to meet with the suspect. During the meeting, shots were fired hitting both victims. Lilley reportedly left the scene.

The children were taken to a family member by crisis counselors. The woman was taken by medics to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police say.

Man shot and killed near Travis County Expo Center

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police say officers found a man dead on the ground near the Travis County Expo Center early Thursday morning. They say he had multiple gunshot wounds.

Police were called to scene on East Meadow Bend Drive just before 3 a.m. APD says officers were already near the scene and were able to respond to the call quickly, but they were unable to save the man’s life.

APD says another man also has multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Dell Seton. He is undergoing surgery, APD says.

APD says they don’t have a suspect in custody, but they found a weapon at the scene. APD isn’t sure how the two people are related right now. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the 41st homicide in Austin this year, and in 2020, the 41st homicide came on Oct. 30, more than four months later in the year. In 2019, there were 36 homicides and 33 in 2018, so the trend of homicides in the city is going up.

APD officer Dimitri Hobbs said this year is especially tough to respond to all the calls because of staffing shortages and public perception.

“It’s harder for us to deal with because our numbers are down, a lot of people aren’t liking us right now, but we’re still here to do our job and try to protect this city,” Hobbs said.

This is a developing situation, we will update this story when we learn more.

'No one wants to work anymore': Oasis on Lake Travis needs employees

'No one wants to work anymore': Oasis on Lake Travis needs employees

AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, the extra $ 300 a week in federal unemployment assistance for the COVID-19 pandemic ends in Texas.

According to data from Indeed, in states where they have already ended that extra money, fewer people are searching for jobs compared to the rest of the nation. In states yet to end the benefits, people are searching for jobs at a higher rate.

Despite the concern, the Austin Chamber of Commerce reported Austin regained 97% of the jobs lost due to the pandemic last spring.

Leisure and hospitality industries added 4,800 jobs last month, which is nearly 74% of all jobs lost in that industry in March and April last year.

This data makes it tough for some restaurants who are searching for workers. The Oasis on Lake Travis, a popular Austin-area attraction, is saying “no one wants to work” there.

Outside the Oasis, you’ll find a sign that reads: “Thank you for coming. We are short staffed. Please be patient with the staff that did show up. No one wants to work anymore.”

“The entire public is ready to come back, and enjoy the summer as much as possible,” said Billy Enney, Oasis assistant general manager.

It’s a great, but frustrating struggle for Enney, who does the scheduling for staff at the Oasis.

“I’m more flexible than I’ve ever been before. We’re accepting part-time work, we’re accepting less than part-time work,” said Enney.

As a manager, he’s having to work in the kitchen and wait tables too to fill in those gaps. Enney said staffing is down by 30% for the summer peak hours. Generally the Oasis needs 200 employees to efficiently run during the summer. Right now they’re a little over 100.

“We’ve tried incentive programs, we’ve tried referral bonuses, we’ve raised the pay across the board,” said Enney.

In Austin, the Capital Area Workforce Solutions organization helps connect people to jobs. Leslie Puckett, a research director for the group, said unemployment in Austin is trending down.

“Some individuals are still hesitant to move into those face-to-face jobs,” said Puckett.

In May 2021, more than 30,000 new jobs were posted for the Austin metro area. 5,000 of those postings were for the tech industry, with roughly 3,000 being for retail.

The National Restaurant Association blames three things for the shortage of employees: People nervous about working in a close environment, switching from cooking and serving to driving for Door Dash or Uber Eats and unemployment benefits that often exceed the pay for some jobs.

“Everyone is different, and everyone has a different situation in life with their family and health,” said Puckett.

Enney is banking on the worker pool expanding as benefits run out.

“We’re pretty much always at 90% capacity for the first floor,” said Enney.

According to Capital Area Workforce Solutions, the Austin-area unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about 54,000 jobless residents. That number is 2% higher than pre-pandemic, however, it’s still less than the national unemployment rate at 5.5% and the Texas unemployment rate at 5.9%.

CLEAT calls for removal of Travis County assistant DA over email

CLEAT calls for removal of Travis County assistant DA over email

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An email about a job posting for the Travis County District Attorney’s unit that investigates and prosecutes unlawful use of force by officers got the attention of the state’s largest law enforcement organization Sunday.

The Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas Executive Director Charley Wilkison is calling for the first assistant DA’s removal in response to an email and posting that he says is an attack on Central Texas law enforcement.

“We call on [DA Jose Garza] today to immediately remove his assistant district attorney, who either by accident or on purpose showed the true colors of this governmental office, which should be seeking facts related to criminal conduct,” said Wilkison in a video response posted to YouTube.

A press release, issued by CLEAT, includes a screenshot of an email First Assistant District Attorney Trudy Strassburger sent, which states that the office is seeking to add another person to their Civil Rights Unit.

“This kind of didactic language is for activists and not for the benign prosecutorial powers that reside inside the wall of an elected district attorney,” says Wilkison in the video response.

KXAN has asked for the Travis County District Attorney’s office to confirm that email was sent.

The online job post says the team’s main purpose is to “investigate and prosecute unlawful use of force by law enforcement in situations of officer involved shootings, deaths in custody and less than lethal uses of force, and also prosecutes officers who have used excessive force.”

The Civil Rights Unit started before Garza was elected and is composed of three attorneys. He says they’re hiring a team lead to help address a backlog and an increasing volume of police misconduct in the community, which includes 11 pending indictments.

“Just this year Travis County Grand Juries, who are made up of our community, family and friends have concluded that seven law enforcement should be charged with felony crimes, including acts of violence like murder and aggravated assault,” Garza tells KXAN. “I hope that they will join us and seek to root out criminal conduct particularly acts of violence committed by members of their organizations.”

Wilkison says Garza’s office is conflicted by personal opinions and beliefs, and the DA should focus on finding prosecutors who follow the facts and seek the truth.

“There’s not a thing we won’t do for you to be treated fairly in a workplace regardless of the political winds that blow,” says Wilkison in the video, addressing the officers the organization represents.

Garza ran on a platform of fully prosecuting any police officer who is not justified in using excessive or lethal force.

Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott Jet Out Of Miami After Celebrating His Birthday Together

Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott Jet Out Of Miami After Celebrating His Birthday Together

Kylie Jenner flew all the way to Miami to celebrate ex Travis Scott’s birthday. Now the pair has hopped aboard her private plane back to L.A. together, sparking reconciliation speculation.

Is this another sign that Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott are rekindling their romance? The parents of three-year-old daughter Stormi Webster have been spending a lot of time together lately, and their latest plane ride has fans talking. The 23-year-old cosmetics mogul flew to Miami aboard her $ 72 million pink private plane, to take part in the “Sicko Mode” rapper’s blowout birthday bash. Travis then hitched a flight back to L.A. aboard Kylie Air with his former girlfriend on Monday, May 3, after flying into Miami from the Bahamas late last week on an even bigger private jet.

Kylie was photographed wearing a black sweatsuit with her hoodie pulled up and over her head to hide her face as she walked the steps to board her jet. Her long manicure could be seen as she held on to the guardrail, and Ky appeared to be carrying a dark tan leather Hermes Birkin bag from her amazing purse collection. She later showed in an Instagram story on the floor of her plane.

Travis followed closely behind, and he didn’t try to cover up and go incognito like Kylie. The birthday boy — who turned 29 on Apr. 30 — wore a black short-sleeved t-shirt and jeans, and donned bright white sneakers along with a black baseball cap. But it didn’t hide his signature thin braids, which could be seen easily seen.

Kylie and Travis were practically joined at the hip during his birthday weekend in Miami. The pair had dinner at a “bird’s nest” booth at Komodo restaurant on May 2. They also partied together at LIV nightclub, where Kylie shared an Instagram stories video of Travis dancing in front of her. She put her open-toe red heeled shoe up to his chest, where he gave her foot several playful slaps.

Kylie and Travis were also caught on camera by partygoers by each other’s sides, leaning in close and smiling at each other during the party at LIV. The mother of one also shared a photo of one of her outfits to her IG stories, which she later posted to the ”gram proper. Travis left a fire emoji in the comments, and then called his birthday bash with Kylie the “Best Time Ever” in his IG stories.

In other fan videos, Kylie was seen hugging Travis and the pair seemed very much like a couple again. The two split in early Oct. 2019 after over two years and a baby girl together. The breakup wasn’t a dramatic one though, and the pair has remained friends as well as loving co-parents to Stormi. Kylie even shared a birthday tribute to Travis on Apr. 30, posting never before seen photos of him, including one where he was seen in a pink ball pit holding on to Stormi.

It was followed by a snapshot of the daddy and daughter all dressed up, with precious Stormi giving her father a kiss on the cheek. Kylie also included a sweet picture from a trip to the zoo of Travis proudly holding his little girl in his arms. Kylie, Travis and Stormi make for such an adorable family, so it’s no wonder fans are hoping that the cosmetics queen and the rapper are on their way to reuniting for good.

KUWTK fans spot insane sexual chemistry between Travis Barker and Kourtney

Comic Katherine Ryan has questioned the Kardashian clan’s honesty regarding whether they have had plastic surgery.

On Vicky Pattison’s ‘The Secret To…’ podcast she believes the sisters use their wacky beauty treatments as a “smokescreen” for secret ops.

“I know they have Dr Jason Diamond, he is the family dermatologist,” she began. “So he’s doing a lot of the peels and the lasers, they also go to Simon Ourian. Jason Diamond is a surgeon he does facelifts and things as well, but I don’t think he does any surgery on them.

“I think they’re offering these two guys as smokescreens to be like, ‘Here’s who I go to for a lovely gentle vampire facial,’ but there’s someone with the fat gun in the back and that’s the person whose name I need.”

She continued: “That’s not a criticism, it’s like, don’t treat me like an idiot, there’s a point where we have to be honest and share the wealth.”

Fans have been encouraging Kim Kardashian, 40, to date close friend Van Jones since she filed for divorce from Kanye West in February.

Kim and Van have known each other for years and worked together on criminal justice reform, helping to free Alice Johnson from jail in 2018 after she was jailed for life for a first-time drug offence.

One fan commented, “They look good together” below a picture of the pair at a criminal justice summit.

Kim, who shares North, seven, Saint, five, Chicago, three, and Psalm, one, with Kanye, 43, filed for divorce from her third husband after nearly seven years of marriage.

The filing came after Kanye struggled with his bipolar disorder last summer, going on rants on Twitter and at his presidential rallies.

LAKE TRAVIS (KXAN) — The Lower Colorado River Authority Public Safety Department charged a Lake Travis marina owner with dumping waste, including used toilet paper and feces into Lake Travis using an old pipe coming from the marina’s bathroom.

Authorities say the illegal dumping may have been happening for weeks.

Paul Carlton Coburn, 51, faces a third-degree felony for the unauthorized discharge of waste. Coburn is a co-owner and manager of Commander Point Marina, according to the arrest affidavit.

“I observed water, fluorescent dye, used toilet paper, and feces dumping into Lake Travis from an old pipe.”

LCRA officer jesse strength

Officers say someone tipped off the LCRA police to the sewage discharge. An LCRA officer showed up to inspect the marina and that’s when the officer says they saw the waste and toilet paper coming out of the pipe and into Lake Travis. They say Coburn knew exactly what was happening.

“I then asked Coburn if he had used the toilet [April 23], and he stated yes,” LCRA Officer Jesse Strength wrote in the affidavit. “Coburn stated he was aware the sewage line was not connected to a tank. Coburn stated he was aware the pipe of the sewage line was cut for approximately three to four weeks.”

LCRA testing water supply, says water is safe to drink

According to the LCRA, a dye test and seven water quality tests were done immediately in the area after Public Safety Rangers found evidence of the waste. The LCRA says none of the water quality tests revealed harmful amounts of bacteria in the water.

Nearby water intakes are also tested regularly to make sure no harmful levels of bacteria are entering our drinking water supply.

According to one man who utilizes the dock, people were swimming in the cove where the marina is situated over the weekend. Mansfield Dam, a popular area for swimming and water recreation is also nearby.

LCRA Public Safety Rangers say Coburn lives at the marina on a boat. KXAN has tried to determine which attorney is representing Coburn and reach out for comment but so far we have not been successful. We will update this story once we get a comment.

Coburn was booked into the Travis County Jail on Friday but has since posted bond and been released.
