L.A. clothing designer creates sustainable underwear brand that supports local business

LOS ANGELES — Greatwood Underwear founder and designer Jermelle F. Pitts has been passionate about quality men’s underwear for as long as he can remember. When starting his own underwear line in 2018, the goal was to create a product that is sustainable.

Pitts set out to create a brand that is based locally in downtown Los Angeles. According to Shon Simon, owner of the clothing manufacturer Pitts works with, all of the manufacturing, textiles, waistbands, and fabric are created in Los Angeles. She said, “He’s the perfect candidate for doing it locally.”

One of the highlights to Pitts’ underwear design is a special lining of a fabric called modal. Simon said, “It is a eco-friendly fabric. It’s antimicrobial, antibacterial, and it holds odor in a way that keeps you fresh.”

While the COVID-19 pandemic originally threatened his business, Pitts ultimately saw an increase in sales in 2020 after the Black Lives Matter movement prompted people to support Black-owned businesses. “However,” Pitts said, “now that it’s not at the forefront of the news anymore, sales have declined.”

Another challenge Pitts faces is being a Black gay designer in an industry that is still not very inclusive. Pitts said, “But everyday you just have to wake up, stay focused, and just go for the plan, and just follow your dream.”

The fame of One Direction skyrocketed once they left The X Factor in 2010. After releasing their second album, Take Me Home, in November 2012, the band embarked on a world tour. During their time in Australia, however, Liam’s hotel room was invaded by a member of his fandom.

The 1D fans have always been very passionate about their favourite band.

In recent years some One Direction fan fiction has even been adapted to the big screen under the titles, After and After We Collided.

They even went so far as to track down where the band were staying in Sydney, Australia while they were on tour.

The star recalled the information to the Daily Telegraph shortly thereafter, when he said: “I honestly miss Australia, I mean there’s been a little bit of carnage over there with the fans in the past when that girl stole my boxers and stuff like that, it was kind of crazy.”

At the time, Liam live-tweeted the moment when a fan broke into his hotel room by climbing onto his balcony and opening the door.

He wrote on Twitter: “Strangest way I’ve ever been woken up, when ur in bed butt naked an sum1 is trying to force open your balcony this is gunna be a strange day.” (sic)

After inspecting what was going on, it was revealed that his red boxer shorts were stolen from his balcony.

He added on Twitter at the time: “Hmmm somebody stole my boxers I’m so embarrassed.”

Liam continued: “My security guard saw them and said: ‘Those are your pants.’”

He added that he wasn’t too bothered about getting them back, before adding: “I just wanted to check there were no skidders in there!”

The singer saw the funny side of the entire situation, however.

After getting his pants back, the star tweeted: “#breakIntoSomeonesHouseAndStealThereUnderwearDay right I’m off to scarlett johansson’s house.” (sic)

Rumours later circulated the band hired a “laundry security guard” to stop their clothes from being stolen while on tour.

Despite the issues he and the band had in Australia, they returned in later tours but didn’t have any of their underwear stolen again.

Is sneezing caused by hay fever leading to wet underwear? What you can do to stop it

The loss of bladder control when sneezing, laughing or coughing is a sign of a weak pelvic floor – a piece of anatomy that Wake believes everybody should learn about. “It’s a very important muscle involved in everyday functions, like going to the toilet, breathing and sex,” said Wake.

“Stop the wind, then stop the water,” she quipped. “But then you want to think deeper and above that sensation.”

Wake described it as “a scooping-up feeling from your back to your front passage”.

When doing this exercise, “keep your pelvis still – the spine shouldn’t move”.

How often should you do pelvic floor exercises?

“The research on this is quite clear and – wait for it – we are advised to do around 100 contractions per day,” stated Wake.

“When you think of how the pelvic floor works, however, it’s not as daunting as it seems,” she elaborated.

DON’T MISS

Wake recommends connecting to the pelvic floor muscles through breath work.

“Every time we breathe, the pelvic floor is supposed to naturally move.

“Breath in, feel it expand, breath out, feel it contract,” she explained.

“It works with your diaphragm, so as you inhale it expands, and as you exhale, it draws in,” she emphasised.

The Innova gadget finds your pelvic floor muscles and causes them to contract 180 times within half hour.

The electrical muscle stimulation can help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.

This means people will be able to have more control over their bladder.

Pilates instructor and pelvic floor expert, Wake, teamed up with Innovo to help people fix their leaky bladder issues.

Blonde Bomber Bridges strips to underwear for weigh-in

Boxing siren Ebanie Bridges didn’t leave much to the imagination during her weigh-in ahead of her WBA bantamweight title fight against Shannon Courtenay, with the fiery Brit slamming Bridges’ skimpy attire.

Australian fighter Bridges, better known to boxing fans as the ‘Blonde Bomber’, has previously called on female pugilists to “embrace femininity” by wearing eye-catching bikinis to weigh-ins – and the 5-0 boxer certainly heeded her own advice early Friday in advance of her showdown with the 6-1 Courtenay.

Bridges’ aggressive harnessing of her own sexuality has predictably led to calls – including from title rival Courtenay – that the 34-year-old Aussie is “disrespecting” the sport which pays her bills with her headline-grabbing antics.

Courtenay, with whom Bridges will trade leather on Saturday on the undercard of the Conor Benn vs. Samuel Vargas fight, told Sky Sports after their weigh-in showdown that Bridges will quickly realize she is out of her depth when they step into the ring.

Now there is no more talking,” said Courtenay. “Now it’s fight time, and this is where I shine.

She’s done her bit, she likes talking, I like fighting. My prediction is Saturday night I become world champion.”

Somewhat bizarrely, Bridges also offered Courtenay a pair of what she described as her “dad’s undies” as an apparent peace offering between the two, something which was unsurprisingly rebuffed the English boxer.

I tried to give [Shannon] my dad’s undies, but she said ‘no thanks I got my own‘”, the Blonde Bomber wrote on social media.

They were even champion brand, her sponsors.. She knocked them back, I thought was a cute gesture.”

Bridges’ racy reveal on the scales has certainly led to a spate of new fans sitting up and taking notice of the Australian prizefighter, who will be hoping to secure her maiden world title.

And there is little doubt that her legions of new fans will be pulling for her success in Saturday night’s fight – not least because many of them might well be hoping for a few more glimpses at the sultry siren on the scales before she hangs up her gloves.
