Carol Vorderman explains ‘very lumpy’ appearance in tight workout clothes during her walks

Countdown legend Carol Vorderman, 60, has admitted she tends to stuff rubbish down her top and leggings when she’s out walking in the Welsh countryside in order to avoid littering. The maths expert, who is usually spotted enjoying daily walks in skintight workout gear, shared her admission with Julia Bradbury on her BBC Radio Wales show yesterday.

Carol’s comment prompted the former Countryfile presenter, who is also a walking enthusiast, to declare that her habit must make her body look “very lumpy” to any onlookers.

The star got onto the subject while discussing Julia’s work with environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy.

Julia fumed of littering: “It’s just so horrible!

“How can you go to a beautiful location, suck in those views, enjoy it, and then leave your bag of chips behind? I don’t get it.”

Carol agreed with her radio guest, before giving her listeners some handy tips and tricks about how to keep tidy while out and about.

She told Julia: “I don’t get it!

“I will always take a little plastic bag with me, or if I’m on a long walk obviously my rucksack, all my rubbish goes in my rucksack.

“But there have been times when I’ve gone, ‘I just fancy a Welsh cake’ and it comes in a little bag.

Julia quipped: “So basically, everyone’s going, ‘God, that Carol Vorderman has become very lumpy! What are those funny shapes? Is she alright? Has she got some strange disease? She’s got leg lumpitus, what’s going on?’”

Carol giggled at Julia’s remark and admitted: “I’m not a class act Julia Bradbury.”

“You are! That’s why we love you,” Julia reassured the presenter.

It comes after Carol took to Twitter to share her progress after taking on The Big Walk for Wales’ leading prostate health charity Prostate Cymru.

Carol has to walk 26 miles in July to complete the challenge.

At the beginning of this month, Carol explained she has a trick to prevent herself from suffering any knee problems.

She told her 463,000 followers: “Morning gang. Walked 10 miles to kick off the @pcbigwalk as #TeamCaptain for @ProstateCymru.

“Little secret…one leg is 5mm longer than the other (most people have this but don’t realise), so I put an orthotic in one trainer to stop knee problems.

“It works. I’m defo weird.”

Carol Vorderman shares heart-breaking reason she is walking 26 miles in July

On social media, she captioned a video of herself: “Sometimes walking helps us remember those we’ve lost @pcbigwalk …..in old age or if they’ve been taken too soon through cancer, disease or other reasons. I’m an early walker…..some thoughts this week.”

In the video, she told Twitter followers: “I lost a dear friend last week… somebody I loved very much. So many of us loved.

“Sometimes when you are missing somebody, whether they have passed in old age or too soon, being out in the open really seems to connect you with them again.”

Carol added: “And I am on the coastal path – I am on a beach here. It is so beautiful. All alone. The early walker, thinking of people as we should.”

One Twitter user replied: “So true. I went for a walk a few weeks ago with our eleven year old son and he looked up to the stars and said, ‘grandad watches over us each day’. I must say I had a few tears.”

A second commented: “Bless you Carol . The missing them is the hardest part . I m sure whoever you were thinking of were right there beside you . I often wonder were ever they are do they miss us too ? X”

And a third said: “Carol, I lost my dad 5 years ago and now whenever I’m out hiking in the hills above Adelaide I use his walking pole, so while he may not be able to see the beauty all around me, he’s still there with me in my thoughts every step I take.”

The Big Walk Celeb Team is captained by Carol Vorderman this year and will see people walk 26 miles in July to help men with prostate cancer.

The charity, based in Wales, will give out a t shirt and medal to people raising £50.

The charity says: “Throughout July, walk 26 miles your way, whether it’s a mile at a time or two half marathons throughout the month. Your fundraising will help Prostate Cymru fund important research and support services that ensure men in Wales suffering with prostate diseases will have access to the best available treatments from the NHS in Wales.”

Carol Vorderman rules out TV work after falling ill but will return to Pride of Britain

Carol Vorderman, 61, will be back to present The Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, in partnership with TSB, this year, but doesn’t want to work in television for much longer. The ex Countdown star said she will instead continue to focus on prioritising her health and helping others. Reflecting on 2020, the mother-of-two said she was “beyond tired” after having a packed schedule.

Carol marks her 22nd year presenting The Pride Of Britain Awards this year, which will return in person.

The host’s work on the show has made her determined to spend more time helping others.

She revealed she’s been working with Swansea and Cambridge universities for years and has also given away educational bursaries to help children from deprived backgrounds.

“And now I want to do even more,” she added, revealing she hoped to set up a foundation in the future.

The presenter added she is keen to focus on her health and isn’t “bothered about being on the telly anymore”.

“I worked my butt off last year and I don’t want to do it anymore,” she admitted.

“I was really busy, I was making a couple of new TV shows and books, plus filming new stuff for The Maths Factor.”

The Pride of Britain Awards star said she ended up not being well last year and didn’t find filming pleasant.

She has been married twice in her lifetime; firstly to Patrick King, who she shares two children with, followed by Christopher Mather.

This year, The Pride Of Britain Awards 2021 will be broadcasted from its usual location at Grosvenor House Hotel.

She said of her long-serving role: “It is always such a thrill and an honour to meet the Pride of Britain winners.

“They are the absolute best of our wonderful country, but they also tend to be incredibly modest, which is why we need people to tell us about them.

“So, if you know an unsung hero, whether it is someone who has changed one life or changed the world, tell us about them and nominate for Pride of Britain today.”

The Awards, which celebrate ordinary people doing extraordinary things, are now open for nominations.

The chance to nominate an unsung hero will close on Friday 13th August.

Winners will be chosen by the Pride of Britain judging panel, from a shortlist drawn up from all the nominations received.
