Fortnite update 17.20 release date confirmed with handy new weapon slot feature

Fortnite fans are counting down to the release of update 17.20 later this week.

According to the latest Fortnite leak, the next big update is in the testing stage ahead of an imminent launch.

This means Fortnite fans should be able to download the update on the morning of July 20.

Fortnite update 17.20 will likely be released alongside a period of server downtime, so be prepared for a big download.

In addition to bug fixes and gameplay tweaks, the new update is expected to usher in a brand new feature.

The handy new addition will reportedly allow users to customise their weapon slots.

“Epic is most likely working on a setting to automatically place items types in the slot that you want, for example when you pick up a shotgun it’ll automatically place it in slot #3 or whichever you want,” reads a Hypex tweet.

“A “Preferred Slot Item Type” feature is being worked on since 17.00!”

In a follow-up tweet, Hypex revealed which weapons will be supported by the new feature.

“Here are the different item types that the Preferred Item Slot will support…

– ARs

– Shotguns

– SMGs

– Pistols

– Snipers & Bows (same keybind)

– Grenade Launchers & Rockets (same keybind)

– Consumables (all heals and foraged items)

– Utility (Grenades, Throwables etc..)”

The feature could prove extremely valuable for fans who like to order their loadout in the most efficient manner possible.

You could have your healing items in the furthest slot to the right, perhaps next to your grenades.

Personally, I would assign my AR to the first slot on the left, followed by my shotgun and then my sniper rifle.

Speaking of Fortnite leaks, the latest reports suggest pop superstar Ariana Grande will make an appearance in the game.

A new leak claims the Thank You, Next singer will perform a concert in the game, and will also have her own skin.

“Ariana Grande will be coming soon and will have a in-game concert (concert has already had a test launch done by staff at Epic),” reads a recent report.

It’s possible the concert and new skin will be added to the game during this week’s 17.20 update.

Richard Donner, ‘Superman,’ ‘Lethal Weapon’ director, dead at 91

Donner’s career spanned five decades.

Filmmaker Richard Donner, who helped create the modern superhero blockbuster with 1978’s “Superman” and mastered the buddy comedy with the “Lethal Weapon” franchise, has died. He was 91.

Lauren Shuler Donner, his wife and producing partner, told the Hollywood trade Deadline that Donner died Monday.

Donner gained fame with his first feature, 1976’s “The Omen.” A then-unheard-of offer followed: $ 1 million to direct 1978’s “Superman.” Donner channeled his love of the character into making the film, repeatedly facing off with producers over the need for special effects that would convince the audience that a superhero could really fly. In the title role, Donner cast Christopher Reeve, who was associated with “Superman” for the rest of his life.

By the 21st century, the genre was dominating the box office in the U.S. and thriving overseas. The heads of Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment—producers of most of today’s superhero fare— both worked for Donner when they were starting out in Hollywood.

Steven Spielberg, who produced “The Goonies,” wrote in a statement that, “Dick had such a powerful command of his movies, and was so gifted across so many genres. Being in his circle was akin to hanging out with your favorite coach, smartest professor, fiercest motivator, most endearing friend, staunchest ally, and — of course — the greatest Goonie of all. He was all kid. All heart. All the time. I can’t believe he’s gone, but his husky, hearty laugh will stay with me always.”

Tributes also poured in on Twitter Monday, including from “Goonies” star Sean Astin.

“Richard Donner had the biggest, boomiest voice you could imagine,” Astin wrote. “He commanded attention and he laughed like no man has ever laughed before. Dick was so much fun. What I perceived in him, as a 12 year old kid, is that he cared. I love how much he cared.”

Director Kevin Smith tweeted that, “Richard Donner made the devil a child in The Omen, invented the modern day comic book movie with Superman, and reinvented the buddy cop movie with Lethal Weapon. I got to meet with him last year about a project. Guy was a natural born storyteller. Thanks for all the flicks, Dick!”

Filmmaker Edgar Wright added, “Richard Donner’s big heart & effervescent charm shone in his movies through the remarkable performances of his cast, which is no mean feat. You remember all the characters in Superman, Lethal Weapon, The Goonies & more, because Donner knew how to capture that magic onscreen.”

Wright said he, only met Donner once but said, “He was funny, charming and so full of stories (and happy to indulge my geeky questions).”

Donner followed “Superman” with an indie, “Inside Moves,” in 1980 and “The Toy” with Richard Pryor in 1982. In 1985, he made the kids’ adventure classic “The Goonies” and “Ladyhawke,” which would introduce him to his future wife, Lauren Shuler Donner.

The two married the following year. In 1993, they founded The Donners Company, which has produced such hits as “Deadpool,” “The Wolverine” and the “X-Men” franchise. Adjusted for inflation, his films have generated more than $ 1 billion in box office receipts.

“Let me tell you: Dick Donner directing is truly the sexiest man alive,” Shuler Donner said at a film academy tribute to the director in 2017.

She said a director’s personality often reveals itself onscreen.

“If you look at Dick’s movies, Dick is fun, larger than life, loud, strong, with a big mushy heart,” she said. “His confidence, his fearlessness, his humor are what make people adore him and has wrapped around me like a protective cloak.

“The combination of learning moviemaking from Richard Donner and falling in love with him has made me personally and professionally a better producer and a happier, loving person,” she continued, calling “Ladyhawke” their “personal love story.”

“I’m the hawk and he’s the wolf,” she said.

In 1987, Donner cast Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as a mismatched police pair in the buddy-cop action film “Lethal Weapon.” The film was a smash, spawning several sequels and a TV show.

“He was a master storyteller,” Gibson said in 2017. “He was humble. He had this sign over this door that said ‘Leave your ego at the door,’ and there was no ego around him. It was hard for me to walk into the room, actually.”

Donner followed up with the Bill Murray hit “Scrooged” in 1988 and “Lethal Weapon 2” the next year.

His other credits include “Maverick,” “Conspiracy Theory” and “Radio Flyer.”

Born Richard Donald Schwartzberg on April 24, 1930, in New York City, Donner changed his name when he set out to become an actor.

“I would have been an out-of-work actor now if it wouldn’t have been for the great director Marty Ritt,” Donner said.

He recalled Ritt telling him, “Your problem is you can’t take direction,” and suggesting he pursue directing instead.

“And because I’d been hanging with him a little bit, he said, ‘You’re my assistant on the next show,’ and that turned my life around,” Donner said. “I never went back to acting.”

He started working in television, directing episodes of “Gilligan’s Island,” “Perry Mason” and “The Twilight Zone.”

Away from the camera, Donner was known for his extraordinary kindness and generosity, covering college tuition for one “Goonies” star (Jeff Cohen, now an entertainment attorney) and paying for life-saving rehab for another (actor Corey Feldman).

Donner told The Associated Press in a 1985 interview that the young cast helped him through the production.

“I never had kids of my own, and they became like my family,” he said.

Cohen, Feldman and “Lethal Weapon” star Rene Russo were among those lauding Donner for his kindness at the 2017 film academy tribute.

“You were charming and funny and witty and all these amazing (things), but the thing that killed me is you were kind,” Russo said. “You were so kind, and that’s what makes you the sexiest man in the world.”

Along with his wife, Donner was also a passionate animal advocate, rescuing dozens of dogs over the years and fighting against the captivity of killer whales.

Though a few of Donner’s films generated Oscar nominations, he was never nominated. But he got his chance to thank the academy — and his many friends and colleagues — at that tribute.

“This industry is my friend, and it’s been the greatest gift in the world to me,” Donner said. “You guys are all my Oscar.”

Joe Biden warns Iran will ‘never’ get nuclear weapon after US base strike reports

The US President sent a clear warning against Iran as tensions in the Middle East flared up. He made the remarks during a meeting with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin in the White House.

The 46th President said: “What I can say to you Iran will never get a nuclear weapon on my watch as they say.”

He also told the Israeli president the US had an “ironclad” responsibility toward Israel’s defence.

Mr Biden added: “We’re committed to – unwavering commitment to your self defence.

“It’s real. It’s something that I often say: If there weren’t an Israel we’d have to invent one.”

On Sunday, Mr Biden ordered a round of airstrikes against Iran-backed militia in response to strikes by the militia on US facilities in Iraq.

The US military addressed the airstrikes in a statement.

It confirmed that “operational and weapons storage facilities” at two locations in Syria and one location in Iraq were targeted.”

It is the second time Mr Biden has responded to Iran-backed militia since taking office at the beginning of the year.

In February, strikes were ordered on a location in Syria in retaliation to rocket attacks from Iraq.

A statement from The Pentagon pointed out that the response showed “President Biden has been clear that he will act to protect US personnel”, and that taking “necessary, appropriate, and deliberate action” is “designed to limit the risk of escalation”.

It is not known whether there were fatalities or if anyone had been injured.

John Kirby, Pentagon press secretary, said: “At President Biden’s direction, US military forces earlier this evening conducted defensive precision airstrikes against facilities used by Iran-backed militia groups in the Iraq-Syria border region.

“The targets were selected because these facilities are utilized by Iran-backed militias that are engaged in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks against US personnel and facilities in Iraq.”

EU army's secret weapon! Joe Biden urged to wade in and approve bloc's military

Macron criticised over push for EU army by Italian MEP

The US President was told by the Center for American Progress, a Washington think tank with close ties to his administration, that it was time America allowed the EU to become a global military power. In a push for French President Emmanuel Macron’s dream of a united EU army, the think tank published a report urging President Biden to encourage the EU to develop hard-power military capabilities.

For the past few decades, US presidents have been staunchly opposed to EU defence integration under the facade of preventing duplication of NATO.

But writing in the report, Max Bergmann, James Lamond and Siena Cicarelli said it was time for the US to ensure Europe no longer depends on American defence powers.

They wrote: “Europe’s dependence on the United States for its security means that the U.S. possesses a de facto veto on the direction of European defence.

“Since the 1990s, the United States has typically used its effective veto power to block the defence ambitions of the European Union.

“This has frequently resulted in an absurd situation where Washington loudly insists Europe do more on defence but then strongly objects when Europe’s political union — the European Union — tries to answer the call.”

They added: “This policy approach has been a grand strategic error — one that has weakened NATO militarily, strained the transatlantic alliance, and contributed to the relative decline in Europe’s global clout.”

The call is sure to attract some criticism from NATO commanders who have longed believed EU countries lack the ability to defend themselves.

The authors of the reports said: “Today, much of Europe’s military hardware is in a shocking state of disrepair.

“European forces aren’t ready to fight with the equipment they have, and the equipment they have isn’t good enough.”

But they claimed the US was also to blame for such a state of the EU’s military forces.

They said: “This is a European failure.

“But Washington has played a critical, if underappreciated, role in precipitating this failure.”

They added: “For more than two decades, both Republican and Democratic administrations have vigorously pressed European capitals to bolster their national forces in support of NATO.

“But this focus on national defence spending levels, embodied by the 2014 commitment by NATO members to spend two percent of their GDP on defence, simply hasn’t worked. European defence today remains anaemic, despite noticeable increases in spending.”

Retired General Philip Breedlove, NATO’s former supreme allied commander for Europe, said he was opposed to an EU army that could be seen as a duplication of NATO.

He said: “If these nations that are also in NATO want to spend on their defense, I see that as a good thing, because anything that will benefit the EU will also benefit NATO.

“But there is a huge caveat and that is something that we have been saying for a long time, everyone from the secretary-general to everyone else: We should not be investing in duplicative capabilities.

“There are far too many readiness needs, capability needs and capacity needs that should be met first.

“What we don’t need to do is invest money in redundant duplicative capabilities.”

Mr Bergmann, the lead author of the report, said US politicians and commanders should be open to adopting a new approach.

He said: “We need to get out of the mindset that the EU will be a complication for us.

“There is a sort of kneejerk negativity about the EU’s potential involvement, instead of viewing it in a potentially positive way.

“The waste and duplication is in the current system, where everyone is having to have their own full spectrum militaries. That’s probably not the best use of militaries for the EU or NATO.

“Too often the opposition to EU defence is very theoretical and not based on the practicalities of the EU getting involved in defence in a realistic way.

“It would be one thing if you could make the case that NATO as currently structured is totally working and European defence is taken care of, but it’s not.

“Just pushing and yelling at member states to spend more on defence … that’s just not a recipe for a strong Europe or a successful transatlantic alliance.”

Terminator-style AI weapon ‘hunted down humans without being told’ warns UN report

The revelation raises concern over terminator-style AI weapons which could kill people in conflict without any human control. The drone was deployed in March last year during the conflict between the Libyan government forces and a breakaway military faction led by Khalifa Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army.
The report on the incident from the UN Security Council’s Panel of Experts on Libya was obtained by the New Scientist magazine.

The drone was a Kargu-2 quadcopter created by Turkish military tech company STM.

The weapon has an explosive charge and can be aimed at a target and detonates on impact.

The report, published earlier this year, said how Haftar’s forces were “hunted down and remotely engaged” by the drones which were operating in a “highly effective” autonomous mode which required no human controller.

Writing in The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, he said: “Current machine learning-based systems cannot effectively distinguish a farmer from a soldier.

“Farmers might hold a rifle to defend their land, while soldiers might use a rake to knock over a gun turret. … Even adequate classification of a vehicle is difficult.”

Mr Kallenborn explained how without a human to make a judgement call, the risks are too high.

He added: “Any given autonomous weapon has some chance of messing up, but those mistakes could have a wide range of consequences.

“The highest risk autonomous weapons are those that have a high probability of error and kill a lot of people when they do.

“Misfiring a .357 magnum is one thing; accidentally detonating a W88 nuclear warhead is something else.”

Warzone patch notes TODAY: PS4 and Xbox Call of Duty update LIVE with weapon nerfs

UPDATE: Today’s Call of Duty Warzone update is now live and comes complete with all the latest Season 3 Reloaded content. The bottom of this article includes the latest Warzone patch notes, with this week’s new update weighing in at around 15GB on each platform. Raven Software has also confirmed a new wave of weapon nerfs which have taken effect across PS4, Xbox One and PC.

ORIGINAL: The new Call of Duty Warzone Season 3 Reloaded update is launching tonight and includes some interesting weapon nerfs.

Gamers already know those new locations from the Rambo and Die Hard movie franchises are coming to Warzone. But they might not know about the new Meta changes being made, including the latest weapon nerfs.

One weapon being changed is the AK-74u, which is seeing a reduction in bullet velocity, and a Sprint to Fire Speed increase. A message from Raven Software adds: “The AK-74u’s stats were well beyond what one might expect from a Submachine Gun.

“We are reining it back in line with other Weapons in its class—less Bullet Velocity, less Damage Range, and more Sprint to Fire Speed.

“While some of these changes may make it seem like the AK-74u had received a drastic reduction in efficacy, we believe these stats are not as meaningful to the SMG class when compared to handling and Time to Kill.

“With unparalleled maximum damage, locational multipliers, and an unforgiving rate of fire, the AK-74u is now the epitome of high-risk, high-reward SMGs.”

The official loadout of changes includes the following:

  • Neck multiplier increased from 1 to 1.4
  • Sprint to Fire Speed increased by 20%
  • Bullet Velocity decreased by 15%
  • Maximum damage range decreased by 25%

Another weapon being buffed this week is the ZRG 20mm, with Raven adding in a new statement:

“The feel of a Weapon is important to us and the ZRG 20mm, while fun, was not quite where we wanted it. We are doubling down on its identity as the highest caliber Sniper in Verdansk.

“We want you to really feel like you are firing anti-materiel rounds. In order to achieve this, we made the Weapon ‘heavier’ and increased its Bullet Penetration.

“Now players on the receiving end of the ZRG 20mm will need to consider the width of objects that they use for cover. We find this gets both the wielder and their opponent to think about the game in different and interesting ways—which is something we always aim to promote.”

The new RG 20mm stats are as follows:

  • Bullet Penetration increased
  • Upper Torso multiplier increased from 1.25 to 1.7
  • Lower Torso multiplier increased from 1.15 to 1.25
  • Extremity multipliers increased from .9 to 1
  • ADS Speed decreased by 4%
  • Bullet Velocity decreased by 2%
  • Move Speed decreased by 2%
  • ADS Move Speed decreased by 1%

Attachments are also being looked as, which could see some big changes made to the Call of Duty Warzone meta:

“We expect this relatively unassuming change to have widespread effects. The Suppressor now offers you another viable attachment choice in the muzzle category with a focus on different stats.

“For example, where Bullet Velocity and Effective Damage Range are not a priority (e.g., Submachine Guns) you would almost certainly take the Suppressor.

Don’t Miss: Warzone patch notes today: Call of Duty update 1.36 includes Season 3 weapons drop

“Or perhaps you have more than enough Bullet Velocity (e.g., ZRG 20mm) and you want to shore up a weakness in handling. These are the types of compelling decisions we want to continue to develop.”
