After the X Factor competition was brought to an end in 2009 One Direction paved their own way in the music industry. The boys enjoyed six years of incredible fame and popularity while selling more than 50 million albums. In 2013 the band was offered a chance to play on the Newcastle United football grounds.
1D was offered the opportunity by the team’s manager, Alan Pardew, who was introduced to the band by Tony Pierzchalski, a friend of the group.
Tony said at the time: “I’m good friends with Pards, I sorted it all out … I spoke to Pards and said: ‘Can I bring the boys into the training ground for a kick around?’ He was like: ‘Yeah, absolutely no problem. We’ll set up a match.'”
The band was ecstatic to be playing on professional grounds in the official Newcastle kit.
Louis continued: “I came here to try and grab that deal and when [Pardew] called me out, it was a big moment. I’m very excited about this club.”
Niall added: “I got approached by the manager about six months ago, he’s wanted to take me into the club for a while, he said he’s been scouting me for a long time – since I played in the Champions League Final last season.
“It’s been a great summer, and I see myself as a solid centre midfielder.”
Less than two years later, Zayn announced he was leaving the band.
In 2015 Zayn’s exit sparked the beginning of the end for One Direction.
The team later split at the end of 2015, sparking the beginning of each of the members’ solo careers.
After Zayn left One Direction in 2015 rumours began flying that the five band members were not on good terms. In the years that followed, the singers were rarely seen together in public, choosing to keep their relationships private. However, in 2018, Zayn opened up on the states of the relationships between him and his former bandmates.
The band got together in 2010 on ITV show the X Factor.
Each of the five singers entered as solo acts but were placed together by Simon Cowell when he saw their potential.
Despite spending five years together on the road, in recording studios and on stage, Zayn revealed he came away from the group as alone as he was when he entered.
Speaking to GQ, Zayn said: “I didn’t really, like, make any friends from the band.”
Zayn added: “I just didn’t do it. It’s not something that I’m afraid to say. I definitely have issues trusting people.”
The singer’s tenuous relationship with his bandmates was exacerbated in 2016.
Louis Tomlinson’s mother died in December of that year, shortly before he was due to perform on the X Factor with DJ Steve Aoki.
After the emotional performance, the rest of the band arrived backstage to support their friend during his hard time. But Zayn was nowhere to be seen.
Zayn went on: “Everybody grows up – two of the guys have got kids now. But no, I don’t talk to any of them, really.”
This year all eyes are on the band after bookies placed odds on One Direction reuniting in 2021.
Despite being broken up for six years, the band’s odds on getting back together have never been better.
Currently, the odds on the band getting back together from Ladbrokes are at an impressive 1/4.
Liam Payne recently joked about a collaboration between the five members while chatting with his fans on Instagram Live.
The singer said: “I’d love to do a collaboration with Niall, Zayn, Harry and Louis. Actually, they’re all here behind this curtain.”
Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati commented: “Liam apparently wants to collaborate with his 1D bandmates in the future, but the odds suggest he might go one better before the year is out with a full reunion very much on the cards.”
Ingrid Michaelson explains why she accidentally got the internet in a frenzy by saying that Zayn Malik and Gigi not only had a baby — but were married, too.
Ingrid Michaelson caused chaos on the internet when she casually blurted out that Zayn Malik was “married” during a Patreon live stream. She learned quickly that this was news to everyone else — and that no, Zayn and Gigi Hadid are not actually married. Ingrid talked about the incident during a new interview, explaining that the whole fiasco was really just an innocent mistake.
“So I’ve had my brief experience of being a super famous person and I don’t like it. I’m done… I want to wear, like, a mask and just never be seen by anyone ever again,” the “You and I” singer joked on the April 6 episode of Christine & Salt (watch above). As it turns out, Ingrid and Zayn, her collaborator on the new track “To Begin Again,” have never actually met and communicated through their managers. Through some miscommunication, Ingrid sincerely thought that Zayn was married.
“I said something along the lines of: ‘He’s a really private guy. He’s married. He has a kid. He just doesn’t want to deal with stuff he doesn’t want to deal with,’” Ingrid recalled. ‘I don’t know, I thought he was married! So spoiler alert — not married!” Within three hours, “Zayn Is Married” was the number one trend on Twitter. She had to hop back online to do damage control.
“It was a whole thing. And I had to go on Instagram and be like, ‘So you guys, as far as I know, he is not married. But I really don’t know anything. I am sorry and that’s it,” Ingrid said. In Ingrid’s Instagram message, she also apologized to baby Khai‘s parents for unintentionally starting the rumor: “My apologies to Zayn and Gigi, if any of this trickles to you and is annoying. I’m sorry — that’s not my intention. And to his fans, I’m sorry for getting you all riled up, and much love to you all.”
