The Chase fans were furious as a contestant made a fatal mistake during tonight’s episode, leaving the player and his teammates frustrated.
In the rare television moment, Ernie made a huge error during his round after he impressed with his cashbuilder.
After making £9k in his opening round, he made the blunder while taking on the chaser Shaun Wallace.
During a question, Ernie failed to press an answer button, forfeiting his point for that questions despite the fact he knew the answer.
The question was: “In the United States, what is measured by Nielsen ratings?”
After failing to press his button in time, host Bradley Walsh asked Ernie what his answer would have been.
Ernie revealed it was “TV audiences” which was in fact correct, but due to his failure to press the button, Ernie didn’t get a point.
Fans rushed to Twitter, furious at the unusual mistake.
One said: “Idiot! Press a button – ANY button!”
While another teased: “Ernie failed to be the fastest buzzer in the West!” making a joke about his name being Ernie.
A third added: “Ran out of time on question klaxon!”
Luckily, Ernie pulled it back as he managed to answer enough questions correctly to make it through to the final chase.
