TUI holidays could provide a valuable opportunity for minions of people to escape lockdown boredom in the UK, with the country tentatively emerging from restrictions. With shops open and a return of the hospitality industry coming soon, many Brits will have turned their eyes to the distant horizon. However, while they may soon be able to leave the country, there will be one thing still restricting them.

When will TUI be running again?

British citizens will have a lot to look forward to next month, with several companies eyeing bids to reopen.

Amongst them is TUI, which has announced it will resume business by July 11.

However, it will operate on a much-reduced schedule than it did pre-coronavirus.

People can fly with TUI from three airports; London Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham.

But they will do so with a swathe of new practices, including enhanced PPE on board.

While the millions will welcome the news, there is one major hurdle TUI, and other reopening travel companies will have to navigate as they restart business.

The Government has imposed a quarantine on anyone entering the country, meaning they must self-isolate for two weeks after landing.

The prospect effectively eliminates any possibility of an extended stay from foreign tourists, and may also dissuade returning Brits.

However, companies are confident they will be able to run their business regardless.

TUI’s commercial director Richard Sofer is amongst them.

He told the Daily Telegraph he was “confident” they would see a “positive result” next month.

Mr Sofer said: “Due to the size of our organisation we’ve been able to have a presence in each of those government conversations through our aviation team or through the senior members of the UK business.

“We’re well-informed of where those discussions are.

“Obviously many of those conversations are confidential but that gives us great confidence to open up a small programme to a couple of really key countries, eight key gateways for us.

“We have absolute confidence that we’re going to be getting a positive result from the government in time for July.”
