Type 2 diabetes is thought of as a life-long illness. Although people may be able to achieve remission – when blood sugar levels return to health levels – diabetes can come back. Drink a certain health drink, which may help to lower blood sugar levels.
Researchers at the Attikon University Hospital in Greece state that a review of several studies have demonstrated vinegar can help reduce blood sugar levels.
The proposed idea behind this health benefit of drinking vinegar, such as apple cider vinegar, is that it “delays gastric emptying”.
This means when consuming apple cider vinegar, for example, the drink can slow down the emptying of your stomach, thereby preventing huge hikes in blood sugar from digestion.
The Malmö University Hospital, in Sweden, recognise that “vinegar delays gastric emptying and lowers blood glucose (sugar) levels”.
To further investigate this link, the researchers wanted to investigate the effect of apple cider vinegar on delayed gastric emptying in people with diabetes.
Their small study sampled 10 people with diabetes. The gastric emptying rate was measured using ultrasonography (an ultrasound).
The test subjects were either given rice pudding and water, or rice pudding, water and apple cider vinegar.

Another study from Arizona State University tested people with type 2 diabetes.
Participants would consume 2tbsp of apple cider vinegar at bedtime for two days.
The results showed that consuming apple cider vinegar reduced blood sugar levels by 6 percent.
Do note, more evidence is needed to confirm the benefits of consuming apple cider vinegar before sleeping.
What is apple cider vinegar?
Apple cider vinegar is made by combining apples with yeast to create alcohol.
Then, this alcohol is then fermented into acetic acid by adding bacteria.
The health drink also contains water, vitamins and minerals.
It’s probably better to drink diluted apple cider vinegar, otherwise, it could hurt your throat.
