US travel: Major border update means some Britons may be allowed to travel to US

“UK students who are pursuing degrees in the USA should speak to their university administration as quickly as possible ahead of the new academic year to clarify their status.

“Those currently in the UK seeking to travel to the USA should contact the US Embassy.”

While students may be welcomed back to the country, the FCO warns that they must be prepared to undergo a quarantine period once they enter the US.

The FCO says: “Those allowed entry to the USA must be prepared to self-isolate for up to 14 days after arrival.”

Flight hubs across the nation have closed their doors amid the pandemic, though some remain open to allow US citizens and residents to return home and to help stranded foreign nationals depart.

“Many airports in the USA have implemented safety measures designed to limit the spread of COVID-19,” states the FCO.

“You should check the website of the airport you are flying into or transiting to see how these could affect you.”

At the time of writing, just 15 airports remain open.

These include Boston-Logan International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Miami International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and Washington-Dulles International Airport.
