While Riot Games has never ruled out bringing Valorant to PS4 and Xbox One, they have always been cautious regarding the subject. There have been hints in the past that the team shooter would arrive on other platforms, including Mobile and consoles. And now a further update has been given on the subject, following the game’s release on PC. According to Anna Donlon, Executive Producer of Valorant, testing is underway for such a project.
However, while options are being explored, there is still no guarantee that a PS4 and Xbox One launch will materialise in the future.
“We are definitely prototyping that right now,” Donlon told GameSpot.
“But there’s a way to play this game and there’s a way to experience this game that we’re not entirely sure translates completely to console play.”
Donlon adds: “If we feel like we can deliver this experience on those platforms, we absolutely will.
“But we really want Valorant to stand for a certain type of gameplay and a certain type of experience.”
“It’s not a no, for sure… But it definitely wasn’t the focus out of the gate. If we were to do it, it’ll definitely be delayed.”
For now, it seems a Valorant console release is still a long way off, with the PC version the top priority for Riot Games.
Joe Ziegler, Game Director of VALORANT at Riot Games, also answered questions on the subject earlier in 2020.
This included an update on whether other platforms will see the launch of Valorant in the future.
Ziegler revealed that his team were exploring options but it’s not something being worked on right now.
He explained: “While we are exploring other platforms like console and mobile, right now the team is working hard to deliver a top notch experience on PC.”
So it’ll be interesting to see whether Valorant on Mobile could ever become a thing for those without access to the PC version.
The Valorant PC release saw some big changes made to the game, including the launch of the new Spike Rush game mode.
