Virgin Media shock as some customers face hugely controversial change tomorrow 1

Virgin Media is making a big change to its Virgin Mobile service tomorrow and some customers aren’t happy about it.

The shake-up is arriving in the form of a new tariff which means thousands of pay-as-you-go users will now be switched to a service called “Daily Plan”.

So what’s the big problem you may ask?

This new payment option is slightly controversial and it could leave some facing a whopping £6 per day bill for making just one call, sending a single text and using a measly 1MB of data.

Virgin’s Daily Plan works via a streamlined payment option which means if you send between one or 200 texts per day you’ll only pay £2 for the privilege – the same goes for texts and calls.

Whilst this could be good for some users, it may also mean some pretty hefty bills for minimal usage of your phone.

Here’s how the Daily Plan from Virgin Mobile works:

TALK: You pay £2 for the first 200 minutes of calls each day.

MESSAGE: You pay £2 for the first 200 texts every day.

WEB: You pay £2 for the first 200MB of data used each day.

In a statement sent to moneysavirngexpert, Virgin said: “We’re making adjustments to some of our pay-as-you-go tariffs. Customers impacted by any changes will be notified of alterations to their mobile plan in a clear and timely way.”

That notification has arrived in the form of an email which explains the changes being made.

In the message, Virgin states: “From 18th November 2019, your Pay As You Go mobile plan will work a bit differently.

“This will affect how much you pay for your calls and texts.

“We’ll be moving you to the “Daily Plan” where; every day, the first 200 minutes of calls you make will cost £2 total.

“It’s the same for the first 200 texts. It means if you send 1 text a day or 199 texts a day, you’ll still say the same £2.”

This update has clearly not gone down with some customers and Twitter is now full of Virgin Mobile users venting their frustration.

One user posted a message saying: “@virginmedia you should feel ashamed of yourself treating payg customers with disgraceful price http://hike.virgin mobile have done this because they want to get rid of payg.the daily plan amounts to daylight robbery”

And another adding: “@virginmedia I’m a Pay As You Go mobile customer. Just had a letter about changes to my plan. Are you really saying that if I make 1 call and 1 text a day it will cost £4 in total?”

If you have received this news from Virgin and are unhappy it could be worth taking a look around at other deals as there are plenty of options available from all the major networks.
