Sky and Virgin Media have been offering top entertainment, sports and movies in crystal-clear 4K for a while. This stunning format brings a picture that is four times as sharp as standard HD but it does come at a price. Both Virgin and Sky charge a premium to watch TV in 4K which can make subscribing to these services pretty expensive. For example, Sky wants £4 per month extra to take delivery of its 4K compatible Sky Q box – that’s on top of your monthly subscription fee.
Luckily, there’s now a new way to experience 4K and it comes without the need to pay a monthly price.
Freest has just announced the launch of their new 4K TV set-top Box which allows customers to view and record over 180 TV channels.
This device also offers instant access to free online services such as BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub and subscription options including Netflix.
Although there’s no word on what 4K content will be available via this new set-top box, Freest says it is fully compatible with this format and you can also record in full Ultra HD as well.
The firm will begin selling four different devices later this month with the top-end model offering a 2TB hard drive – enough to record around 1,000 hours of TV.
