Willie Wright dead: Iconic US singer songwriter dies aged 80

Wright made a splash into the world of music in the 1960s, when he began performing with various doo-wop groups, such as The Persuaders alongside George Bragg and Harry Jensen.

They later formed the Willie Wright Trio before his solo career took off when he moved to Boston in the 70s.

In the space of five years, he released his first solo album Lack Of Education in 1971 and his hit single Africa / Right On For The Darkness in 1974.
