George RR Martin is busy finishing off The Winds of Winter, which could finally release this year. In the meantime, fans have been speculating what could happen in A Song of Ice and Fire’s penultimate book. With Game of Thrones having finished the storyline ahead of the novels, there could well be some clues there.
Concerning the prologue, Reddit user MortLittleooo reckons the King-Beyond-The-Wall Mance Rayder could open The Winds of Winter.
Although this theorist is concerned that could mean his death.
They wrote: “Especially if he wrote the pink letter which could be referenced slyly.”
It’s a popular fan theory that Mance wrote the pink or “Bastard Letter” sent to Jon Snow supposedly from Ramsay Bolton.

The letter claimed Stannis Baratheon is dead and challenges Jon Snow.
While another fan called the-hounds-abides thinks The Winds of Winter’s prologue could see one of the Lannister soldiers die in a POV opening.
As for The Winds of Winter’s epilogue, the most popular theory is seeing The Wall fall as the dead enter Westeros and head towards King’s Landing.
Fan teenagegumshoe wrote that a Dolorous Edd POV could be a good choice for such a scene.

Also known as Eddison Tollet, Dolorous Edd is a member of the Night’s Watch.
In fact, another popular theory about The Winds of Winter epilogue argues Martin could well introduce a White Walker POV after the Wall’s destruction.
Reddit user meerawithdarksister writes: “Loads of text has been written about The Winds of Winter prologue – ‘how will Martin lead us into the story? What’s the first look at the state of Westeros we’re going to get?’
“I always thought epilogues were equally important.”

They continued: “Somehow I can’t shake the feeling that The Winds of Winter one will change the game, because I think the character POV will be one of The Others.”
“I mean, think about it. We all say how we want more information on them because they’re not cookie-cutter bad guys with a motivation to destroy the world and nothing else.
“And we need a character that can communicate with them to understand their motivation, or alternatively, an omniscient character.
“We will get one of those in Bran, and it’s possible that he will see something, or learn the language of Others.”
They added: “That would be fine, and whenever we get a look at what truly drives them, it would be one of the pivotal moments of the book series for sure.”
“But the drama, suspense and novelty added by this approach would be immense. The Winds of Winter will probably end with the Wall being smashed to pieces. And now we know that they are coming. The wheels in our heads are already turning with the implications.
“Imagine, then, reading this epilogue, and getting the info most of us have been suspecting for so many years. That something disturbed them a few decades ago, that they’ve been scouting humans to see what the danger is and building up their numbers, and that now that the Wall is down, they think they’re being attacked.
“Or really, getting to know anything about their goals that puts them at odds with what the Night’s Watch and the people of Westeros think of them. That would be sick.”
