IPAD Pro 2018 could be announced by Apple as soon as next month after some evidence was found supporting such a claim in a string of code from iOS 12.
Apple is widely presumed to be planning a major refresh to the iPad Pro later this year.
It has been rumoured the device could take design aspects from the iPhone X by radically reducing bezels and implementing an all-screen design.
Such claims were echoed by a recent Bloomberg report that insisted the new tablets will arrive with screens of “around 11-inches and 12.9-inches”.
Citing people “familiar with the matter”, the outlet emphasised “slimmer bezels” will arrive and the home button on the hardware will be removed.
That means the new iPad Pro tablets may not feature Touch ID – it has been suggested they could harness the power of Face ID as the primary method of unlocking the device instead.
In fact, iOS developer and 9to5Mac contributor Guilherme Rambo showed Face ID’s setup screen running on iPad, hinting the tablet is set to receive such futuristic technology.
Another developer by the name of Steve Troughton-Smith also shared images of Animoji running on the iPad.
The pictures shown add fuel to rumours the iPad could be set to implement Face ID functionality.
Some initially predicted new iPad Pro models could have been shown off at Apple’s recent hardware event on September 12.
However, the tech firm decided instead to focus on the future of its iPhone and Apple Watch product line.
Such a move led to the debut of the iPhone Xs and Xs Max in addition to the iPhone Xr and Apple Watch Series 4.
That left many wondering when and if Apple could show off new iPad Pro models this year.
But now a string of code discovered in iOS 12 suggests the trillion-dollar company could be planning another hardware event before the year is over to discuss the future of the highly-capable tablet.
Guilherme Rambo, reporting for 9to5Mac, insisted he had found code in the latest version of iOS, 12.1, that mentions “iPad2018Fall”, hinting new models could be arriving later this year.
Rambo insisted previous versions of the operating system made no mention of 2018 iPads.

The iPad was refreshed last year
Instead, only “iPhone2018Fall” was mentioned that presumably refers to the iPhone Xs, Xs Max and the iPhone Xr that recently made their respective debuts at Apple’s Cupertino campus.
In addition to packing an all-screen design, new iPad Pro 2018 models have also been rumoured to come with a USB-C charger to power the tablet.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently predicted future models of the hardware will charge via USB-C and that Apple will use the format to replace its signature Lightning port.
While Apple has been said to be lining up a major refresh to the iPad, the firm has also been rumoured to be planning the announcement of a new version of the MacBook Air and the Mac mini.
The tech giant has previously held hardware events in October that have shown off new Mac products, so if another exhibition was announced before the year is over it would not be an alien move.
It is possible if another showcase does take place it could discuss the future of both the iPad Pro and the Mac.
