Both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton court the press in their influential roles, but in different ways. As a working member of the Royal Family, Kate attends high profile events at Buckingham Palace and visits Britons around the country to promote charitable causes.
Kate and William take part in the royal rota, which schedules official events for members of the family and allows press to gain access to them.
However, since announcing their decision to step down as a senior royals, Harry and Meghan have pulled out of the royal rota.
On their website they state this was, in part, to enable to them to use their Instagram more freely, with without having to run images they intend to post past the Royal Family.
It is clear the Duke and Duchess of Sussex intend to use their social media accounts to communicate with their fans.
They first announced their intention to set down from their senior royal positions on the social media account. Harry and Meghan also use the account to promote a different cause each month.

On their website Sussex Royal the couple state: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to have a social media platform. They look forward to continuing their use of social media and believe that their updated media approach will enable them to share more, with you, directly.
“Historically, the understanding with the Royal Rota expects that if Their Royal Highnesses were to release a photo that has never been seen, they would be expected to give the image to The Rota (of which four of the seven are UK tabloids) simultaneously or in advance of their own release.
“This formula enables these select publications to profit by publishing these images on their websites/front pages. Any breach in this understanding creates long term repercussions.
“The current structure makes it challenging for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to personally share moments in their lives directly with members of the public.”

However, an expert has revealed to Express.co.uk Kate’s Instagram is “a higher scoring account in Instagram’s eyes.”
Andy Barr CEO and founder of www.10Yetis.co.uk, a digital and online public relations agency that manages influencer, social media, design and PR campaigns, said: “Overall, Harry and Meghan lead the way in terms of having a highly engaged social media audience, and even pip Kate and William on followers but overall Kate and William have a higher scoring account in Instagram’s eyes because of the overall volume and quality of comments and likes.
“Harry and Meghan are now in the top 400 (318) Instagram users in the world, compared to William and Kate’s place in 616. Megxit has clearly been kind to Harry and Meghan in the eyes of the social media giants such as Instagram.”
He claimed there is little evidence either accounts have bought followers.
