Loose Women panellist Janet Street-Porter returned to the studio following a skin cancer operation during Tuesday’s edition of the ITV daytime show.
The outspoken panellist announced on the show last month that she had been diagnosed with a form of skin cancer after originally thinking that she had been bitten on the nose by a mosquito over Christmas when she went to Australia.
Janet, 73, told co-stars Andrea McLean, Linda Robson and Brenda Edwards that she’d missed being live in the studio after previously appearing via video link.
“I’m here! It’s very exciting and thrilling to be back,” Janet said.
“I’ve missed being in the studio so much. I hated doing the show from home, I was hopeless.”
Conversation quickly turned to whether or not if it normal to be jealous of a friend.
Janet: “I just don’t do jealousy. I’m not jealous of anybody and if anyone is jealous of me it just passes me by. Get over it.
“I live my life and I’m pretty unapologetic about it.
“I don’t really go to my friend’s houses and think ‘I wish had that many bedrooms’ or ‘I wish had a garden with all those plants’ because I’d have to pay someone to come and weed them.”
“All I am interested in is my vegetables.”
Janet then passed before adding: “That’s plants not people”.
Brenda and the rest of the Loose Women panel awkwardly laughed at Janet’s comment but it didn’t go down well with viewers at home.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “I cannot believe Janet just made the comment ‘I’m talking about vegetables… not the people the edible type’. How disgusting.”
Another added: “@loosewomen are you going to hold Janet accountable for that disgusting ‘vegtable’ comment? Absolutely vile!”
A third posted: “Ooohhhh, Janet is about to get in real trouble. Did she just say that?”
It didn’t stop there as Janet later went on to dish the dirt on being unfaithful with “back burner men” in her younger days.
The journalist said: “I have been looking back at marital and ex-marital history.
“From when I was 21 to 50, I wasn’t faithful for more than a year.
“I would have more than one bloke on the go.
“I’d call them front burner men and back burner men.”
Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12.30pm
