A shopping centre has offered customers the equivalent of nearly £750,000 in vouchers in a desperate bid to get customers back after the coronavirus lockdown.
Sun Hung Kai Properties owns a raft of shopping centres in Hong Kong.
It plans to give out cash vouchers totalling HK$ 7 million (£723,261) across weekends in July and one public holiday.
Each day, the shopper who buys the most at each of its 24 shopping centres will be given a cash voucher worth HK$ 10,000 (£1,033).
It will also hold 23 festival promotions in each of its 12 major malls.
Extra vouchers of HK$ 30 (£3) to HK$ 80 (£8) will be given to those who spend at least HK$ 500 (£51) on any day from June 29 to July 26.
A spokeswoman for the landlord’s shopping centres said: “The expected growth [in June footfall] can reach 10 to 15%.”
The increased traffic is expected to drive sales up by 10% this month, they added.
Hundreds of eager shoppers bundled into Nike’s flagship London store earlier this month, seemingly ignoring social distancing rules.
The Oxford Street location opened its doors in accordance with government guidelines but police were later called to control the crowds, estimated to be 400-people strong.
Nike staff were snapped chatting to customers, encouraging them to stand apart, and assuring them they’d get their turn.
Doors at the flagship location opened at 10am on June 15, and a surge of people were pictured shoving their way to the front to be the first inside.
Some customers even camped outside flagship locations in Birmingham, while others got up at the crack of dawn to be first in line.
Retailers have had to implement a range of measures, including social distancing, hand sanitiser stations, and limiting the number of shoppers allowed in stores, before reopening to the public.
