Virgin Media BOOST: UKTV channels available RIGHT NOW after new deal struck
Virgin Media has struck a deal which will see popular channels like Dave, Gold and Alibi make a return, it was announced today.
Last month it was revealed that UKTV channels would be leaving Virgin Media after negotiations to renew a deal fell through.
In total 10 channels departed the Virgin Media service, leaving customers stunned.
But in a surprise announcement, just a few weeks after the UKTV channels departed Virgin Media, it was revealed they have made a triumphant return.
That means this weekend Virgin Media customers can once again watch Dave, Gold, Alibi and Yesterday.
Dave is a popular destination for Top Gear repeats, while UKTV shows original programmes like Taskmaster, Judge Romesh and Emma Willis: Delivering Babies.
The UKTV return to Virgin Media follows recent discussions between the two firms.
David Bouchier, Chief Digital Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media, said: “Reaching this agreement reaffirms our longstanding partnership with UKTV and is fantastic news for our customers.
“They can enjoy channels like Dave and Gold once again, including in HD, and also get more UKTV on-demand programming than ever before.
“On top of this, the channels we’ve recently added to Virgin TV will remain.
“We are sorry for what we know has been a frustrating time for our customers, but are pleased that our TV bundles are now even bigger.
“Our unwavering commitment to investing in incredible programming remains.”
While Simon Michaelides, Chief Commercial Officer for UKTV, added: “Viewers are at the heart of UKTV and we want to thank them for all of their support.
“We know this has created real disruption for some of our viewers and we’re so sorry for this, but we are thrilled to be back, broadcasting our channels and shows to customers of Virgin Media once more.”
The Dave HD and Gold HD channels will be added to Virgin Media’s Mix bundle and above.
The new agreement will also see more than five times the amount of on-demand programming available on Virgin TV.
This includes more catch-up hours and more boxsets for Virgin TV Full House customers.
This means customers can watch even more of their favourite UKTV programmes whenever they want to.
As the news broke fans took to social networking site Twitter to celebrate the return of UKTV channels to Virgin Media.
Responding to a Dave Twitter post about the announcement, one viewer tweeted: “Oh Dave. I’ve missed you. I’m feeling quite emotional.”
Another wrote: “Amazing news about the return of the best channel on the planet!”
One added: “At last!”
And another posted: “Yay! So glad you’re back!”
