‘No one speaking in UK's favour!’ Argentina aims jibe at Boris and demands Falklands talks

Brexit: Argentina to ‘push EU for negotiation’ says Filmus

And he sought to turn up the heat by claiming his nation’s claim on the remote archipelago enjoyed “explicit support” from nations throughout Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. Mr Filmus was speaking after a meeting of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonisation (C-24), which was attended by among others Mark Pollard, chairman of the Falklands’ Legislative Assembly, and Leona Roberts, his deputy.

The Secretary of Affairs pertaining to the Malvinas – the name Argentinians have given the islands – told Buenos Aires-based newspaper Perfil: “We are very satisfied because it was not just a consensus vote on the resolution, but it was one of the sessions that gathered the most explicit support.

“Organisations and countries from our region, but also Asian, African and Caribbean countries, supported this project.”

Mr Filmus also suggested that Argentina saw Britain’s decision to quit the EU as an opportunity to step up its sovereignty push.

He explained: “We have been working on this for months. This support is not achieved overnight.

“In the midst of the pandemic, it was very difficult to reach countries that had to vote today, so the work was done in the capitals, through our embassies, and in parallel to the work that was also done here at the United Nations, I think it has been very important. It exceeded our expectations.”

Mr Filmus also claimed the meeting had piled the pressure on the UK, which remains steadfast in its insistence that the Falklands will be a British overseas territory for as long as its 3,000-plus residents want it to remain as such.

He bragged: “We don’t hear anyone speaking in favour of the UK sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands.

“There was no country saying that it agreed with either self-determination or the sovereignty of the United Kingdom over the Malvinas.”

Mr Filmus, who has accused the UK of “plundering” the natural resources of the islands, said: “That is why fishing, hydrocarbons and the entire military issue were raised by the chancellor and supported by all countries.

“And now we work hard so that this year the South Atlantic Peace Zone, which brings together all the African and Latin American countries that have a coastline, will meet again, as if to strengthen the denunciation of the illegality of the military base.”

In a separate interview with Radio Brisas, Mr Filmus said: “On the issue of Malvinas, we have found enormous solidarity.

“Not only was the resolution voted by consensus, but many countries, about 30, some that belong to the Committee and others who came especially to show solidarity, said there is no more place for colonialism in the 21st century, and that the United Kingdom has to comply with United Nations resolutions, especially resolution 2075, which is the one that says that this has to be negotiated.

“The United Kingdom has to sit at the dialogue table and also has to comply with other United Nations resolutions such as 3149, which obliges the United Kingdom not to take any unilateral action without authorisation from Argentina.

“In the case of Malvinas, every year the resolution is voted in the Decolonization Committee and the United Kingdom does not comply either; there is an inequality of power and inequality of obedience in front of the United Nations Assembly.

“It is a pity that the founding countries of the United Nations that wanted to create an egalitarian order look the other way; Argentina since 1833, 188 years ago, has been asking the United Kingdom to negotiate peacefully, through dialogue, the exercise of sovereignty over the islands and we find ourselves in a situation of deafness on the other side.

“It is important to be accompanied by the nations of the world, because of the 17 colonies that still exist, 10 are British.

“It is necessary to be aware of this and the pressure of countries telling the United Kingdom to end colonialism has to work.”

Falkland Islands

Argentina invaded the Falklands in 1982, triggering a short but bloody war which saw the a taskforce dispatched by then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher regain control of the islands.

Addressing the committee last week, Mr Pollard, a sixth-generation Falklands, said of Argentina: “They have never shown remorse for their actions, instead they brazenly stand here before the world claiming to have been treated unjustly themselves.”

He added: “The only people who can solve the question of the Falkland Islands, are the people of the Falkland Islands and we see no problem
with our current political status.

“If the international community would support our basic human right to determine our own future then it will have fixed ‘the question of the Falkland Islands’.“

They told the actor: “First games are often cagey and International teams have less time together so work primarily on tactical shape and preventing the opposition scoring.

“Attacking tactics are more complex and take more time. But I think it’s been pretty entertaining so far. Hang in there.”

John replied: “Thank you.

Now bow down: Romelu Lukaku goads Zlatan in thinly-veiled jibe

Now bow down: Romelu Lukaku goads Zlatan in thinly-veiled jibe

Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku took a swipe at AC Milan rival Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the big Belgian claimed bragging rights as his team won a first Serie A title since 2010.

Inter were crowned champions on Sunday after nearest rivals Atalanta could only draw with Sassuolo, handing Antonio Conte’s team a long-awaited Scudetto and sparking joyous scenes on the streets of the Italian city.

The title for Inter is their 19th Scudetto overall but the first since they won a Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League treble under Jose Mourinho in the 2009-10 season.

Since then, they have been forced to watch city rivals AC Milan lift the Serie A crown once before Turin giants Juventus went on a run of nine straight triumphs.

Striker Lukaku has been a crucial force in Inter’s success, hitting 21 goals in 33 games this campaign as well as laying on nine assists.

For Lukaku, Inter’s title success is even sweeter after the running personal battle he has waged with AC Milan’s Swedish icon Ibrahimovic.

The pair clashed furiously during the Coppa Italia quarterfinal derby in January when they butted heads and exchanged words, with Ibrahimovic appearing to tell Lukaku to “go do your voodoo sh*t” in a reference to a story dating back to his days with Everton in the English Premier League.

Lukaku responded by screaming “f*ck you and your wife, you little b*tch” as he was held back by his teammates.

When the teams met in February, Lukaku was on the scoresheet as Inter romped to a 3-0 win and was heard exclaiming “I told you” – in what was taken as another riposte to Ibrahimovic.

But after sealing bragging rights on Sunday, Lukaku issued a withering new barb to his rival on Twitter.

“The real god has crowned the king! Now bow down! King of Milano,” tweeted the forward.

Lukaku and Ibrahimovic – who are former teammates from their time at Manchester United – have been stoking their rivalry ever since the 39-year-old Swede returned to Italy at the end of 2019, which was touted as being “the return of the king.”

After Inter beat their San Siro neighbors in a 4-2 thriller in February of 2020 – with Lukaku netting an injury-time strike to seal the victory – the Belgian poured scorn on the idea of Ibrahimovic being royalty, instead proclaiming on Twitter “there’s a new king in town.”

Not content to let that lie, Ibrahimovic fired back after he scored a double against Inter in their Serie A clash in October, tweeting a picture of himself and the message: “Milan never had a king, only a God.”

At the start of the season Ibrahimovic looked the likelier to win his ugly personal war with Lukaku as Milan made a strong start to their campaign, going unbeaten in Serie A all the way until January 6, when they lost to Juventus.

But marshalled by the irrepressible Conte in the dugout, Inter gained momentum and never looked back after going top of the table on February 14, leading the standings ever since.

With four matches to go, Inter have an unassailable 13-point gap ahead of Atalanta, AC Milan and Juventus – all of whom are level on 69 points.

Lukaku has enjoyed another impressive season and has now netted 61 goals across 92 appearances in all competitions for Inter since making the move from Manchester United in August 2019 for a reported fee of €80 million ($ 96.5 million).

Such has been Lukaku’s form, he has been linked with a move back to the Premier League with former club Chelsea said to be interested in potentially bringing him back to Stamford Bridge.

Ibrahimovic, meanwhile, has penned a one-year extension with Milan to keep him at the club next season, when he will turn 40.

The Swede, whose own peripatetic career led him to a spell at Inter between 2006 and 2009, will at least have the chance to return the crown snatched from his head by young claimant Lukaku.

Piers Morgan aims jibe at Meghan Markle in 'April Fools' quip about returning to GMB

Piers Morgan aims jibe at Meghan Markle in 'April Fools' quip about returning to GMB

Piers’ new comments about Justin Welby were prompted after the Archbishop was quizzed on Meghan and Harry’s official wedding day in an interview with with la Repubblica.

Mr Welby said: “If any of you ever talk to a priest, you expect them to keep that talk confidential. It doesn’t matter who I’m talking to. I had a number of private and pastoral meetings with the duke and duchess before the wedding.

“The legal wedding was on the Saturday. I signed the wedding certificate, which is a legal document, and I would have committed a serious criminal offence if I signed it knowing it was false.”

The Archbishop was responding to Meghan telling Oprah in their chat: “You know, three days before our wedding we got married.

“No-one knows that, but we called the Archbishop and we just said, ‘look, this thing, this spectacle, is for the world, but we want our union between us’.”

The presenter also said the Royal Family has dealt with “beheadings, affairs, abdications” so he is “fairly sure it’ll be able to weather the banal musings of a silly little cable TV actress”.

Piers Morgan also claimed Jeremy messaged him after his comments about not believing the Duchess of Sussex on Good Morning Britain.

Piers said he did not believe her allegations in the Oprah interview, leading to more than 57,000 complaints to Ofcom.

In a piece in the Mail on Sunday, Piers wrote: “I got a text from my old foe Jeremy Clarkson that read: ‘I am completely on your side.’”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims subtle jibe at Man Utd stars after narrow West Ham win

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims subtle jibe at Man Utd stars after narrow West Ham win

“We could have been more comfortable towards the end as we had a few decent chances to finish it off. We like to make it hard for ourselves!

“It’s about not giving them turnovers all the time. In the first 15 minutes we gave the ball away every time we attacked.

“It was a good set-play and we scored. You have to not open up stupidly as you know they are a threat on the counter-attack so we kept composed and organised.

“We created massive opportunities but the final pass or shot wasn’t good enough. Could have been two or three easily. But then it could have ended up in our net at the end as they are a threat.

“We know West Ham are challenging to get in the top four so it was a big result and we kept a clean sheet again.

“The experience and confidence will come. Big week – Europa League and FA Cup – so we’re looking forward to it. Hopefully get a few players back and put a good performance in.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin Abubakar aims to avenge UFC debut defeat this month after ‘Hollywood’ jibe at Sterling over Yan fight

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin Abubakar aims to avenge UFC debut defeat this month after ‘Hollywood’ jibe at Sterling over Yan fight

Abubakar Nurmagomedov will face fellow UFC newcomer Jared Gooden in his second fight for the promotion at UFC 260, when he will hope to avoid the kind of farcical finish that he mocked Aljamain Sterling for at the weekend.

In a clash of two experienced welterweights looking to avenge debut defeats in their UFC careers, Russian Nurmagomedov will seek a 16th win in his 20th professional fight on the undercard of the event headlined by Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou in Las Vegas on March 27.

Nurmagomedov will be fighting for the first time since his first-round defeat to David Zawada at UFC Fight Night in Moscow in November 2019, when a submission by triangle choke ended his night prematurely.

That is former amateur National Fighting Championship title holder Gooden’s favored grappling technique, which could give the 27-year-old confidence when he looks to bounce back from a decision defeat to veteran Alan Jouban last November.

Lightweight champion Khabib described how “everything was going to plan” for Abubakar on Tuesday, posting a photo of the pair together alongside another of his fighting cousins, Usman, and trainer Javier Mendez.

“The Eagle” described Abubakar and Usman as “next in line”, and Abubakar shared a photo of himself embracing the retired great and his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, at a table last week, writing: “Now is good.”

Abubakar took an entertaining swipe at UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling following his bizarre win over Petr Yan at UFC 259 on Saturday.

Having watched his countryman dominate the fight before suffering a disqualification after being adjudged to have landed an illegal knee on a ground Sterling, Abubakar accused Sterling of theatrically exaggerating his injury as he tried to resume the scrap and was attended to by doctors.

“Let’s make a donation for Aljo and send him to Hollywood casting,” Nurmagomedov wrote on Twitter, watching the fight being called off as a result of the stricken Sterling being unable to continue.

Nurmagomedov’s joke received a mixed reaction, with some fans laughing and others attempting to mock him over his loss to Zawada.

Meghan Markle fans hit out at Laurence Fox over his 'duchess of victimhood' jibe

The host asked who made such a statement. However, Meghan would not reveal who it was, saying it would be “very damaging” to their reputation.

But she replied saying there were “several conversations” surrounding her child’s complexion.

Meghan shared: “In those months, when I was pregnant, all around this same time, we had in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, he won’t be given a title.

“And also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin will be when he’s born.

“That was relayed to me from Harry, that was from conversations that family had with him. It was really hard to see those as compartmentalized conversations,” she added.
