Christchurch mosque gunman sentenced to life and will die in prison

The gunman who murdered dozens in a series of attacks on mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand has been sentenced to life in jail without parole.

Brenton Tarrant killed 51 people and injured 40 others in a deadly shooting rampage on March 15, 2019.

The Australian-born gunman opened fire on worshippers, live streaming his horrific attacks online.

He had pleaded guilty during court proceedings in Christchurch to murder, attempted murder and terrorism.

Survivors and family members had addressed the 29-year-old at the city’s high court.

Tarrant has become the first person to be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole in New Zealand’s history.
