'It's not his money!' Hubby gatecrashes Lottery call after hearing how much wife has won

When Melanie Denning found out she had won £30,000 on People’s Postcode Lottery she couldn’t contain herself.

But the bad news for her was her yelps of joy alerted her hubby Chris who was sat in the other room.

Melanie was just finding out how much she’d won over a live video call with People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Jeff Brazier when her other half popped in through the door.

“His ears pricked up”, joked Jeff as Chris appeared on camera.

“It’s not his money, it’s my money” teased Melanie, struggling to contain her giggles.

The win was well deserved for Melanie, from Dormington, Herefordshire, who not only fundraises for a living, but who also helps raise money for Cystic Fibrosis charities and her local church in her spare time.

Melanie explained: “I massively believe in the power of charities and the work they do.

“I work for The Royal National College for the Blind which is a national further education college for people with visual impairments. My job is to find funding wherever possible.

“Our 20-year-old son has Cystic Fibrosis so we’ve been fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis charities for his whole life. We’ve been campaigning for a new drug which has just been rolled out, so winning this is the icing on the cake!”

To top it all off, the college Melanie works at received over £12,000 last year thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery to buy Brailliants, the braille equivalent of a computer keyboard.

Melanie added: “I only signed up to play because of the money that goes to charity. It’s all come full circle!”

The other four winners in Melanie’s postcode decided to remain anonymous but will still receive their winnings.

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day.

People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.

A minimum of 32% of ticket sales goes directly to charities and players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise over £600 million to date for thousands of good causes across Britain and internationally.

This draw was promoted on behalf of children’s education charity Postcode Dream Trust, which supports charities who wish to deliver highly innovative, impactful and engaging projects across Britain and further afield.

Players must be 16+. BeGambleAware.org.
